Abstract: Provided are a device and a method capable of efficiently performing a synthesis process of broadcast reception data and network reception data. Broadcast reception data received by a receiving device via a communication unit is set as a media source object corresponding to a processing object of an application executed by the receiving device under an application programming interface (API). The application executes a synthesis process of the broadcast reception data and network reception data received via a network as processing for the media source object. The application obtains a time offset corresponding to a time difference between an application time axis and a broadcast time axis on the basis of an API application process to execute a high-accuracy and low-delay data synthesis process.

Abstract: A configuration is realized such that a playback application applied in a receiving device can be determined using a service category identifier recorded in an SLT that can be received in advance. The service category identifier capable of identifying an application applied to a provided service such as a program provided by a transmitting device is transmitted to the receiving device. The receiving device performs a continuation process on an application applied before service transition when the service transition occurs and when applications applied to services before and after the transition are same. The service category identifier is an identifier capable of identifying the service by determining whether to apply a residential playback application or a broadcast playback application for playback of the service.

Abstract: The present technology relates to a receiving device, a receiving method, a transmitting device, and a transmitting method that enable operation of subtitles to be displayed in a superimposed manner on broadcast content reliably. The receiving device acquires trigger information for providing a function relating to subtitles, the trigger information including location information by which a resource on the Internet is identifiable; acquires subtitle information including a document relating to subtitles described in a predetermined computer language, on the basis of the location information included in the trigger information; and controls displaying of the subtitles on the basis of at least one of the trigger information and the subtitle information.
