  • Patent number: 6815910
Abstract: To prevent lamp extinction during dead time of an inverter circuit of a full bridge system, to reduce delays of the rising time and the falling time of rectangular waves which have been output by the inverter circuit and to prevent formation of a phenomenon of momentary darkening of the radiant light, the discharge lamp is operated with an alternating current with rectangular waves which is produced by an inverter circuit of a full bridge system. When the inverter circuit of the full bridge system is driven a dead time is taken in which all switching devices are turned off. In the rear stage of the inverter circuit of the full bridge system, there is an inductance. The value of the inductance is fixed such that LL≧VL/IL·Td (VL being the luminous voltage of the discharge lamp, IL being the current and Td the dead time). Current can flow in the discharge lamp during the dead time by the energy stored in this inductance.

  • Publication number: 20040130974
Abstract: A magneto-optical recording medium comprises a recording layer 5, an intermediate layer 4, and a reproducing layer 3. The reproducing layer 3 is formed of a rare earth transition metal alloy in which rare earth metal is dominant, and each of the intermediate layer 4 and the recording layer 5 is formed of a rare earth transition metal alloy in which transition metal is dominant. The intermediate layer 4 exhibits in-plane magnetization at a temperature of not less than 140° C. Therefore, the intermediate layer 4 cuts off the exchange coupling force between the recording layer 5 and the reproducing layer 3 during the reproduction. A magnetic domain 3A, which is transferred to the reproducing layer 3, is expanded to a size of a minimum magnetic domain diameter by the magnetostatic repulsive force exerted between the magnetic domain in the intermediate layer 4 and the magnetic domain in the reproducing layer.

  • Publication number: 20040090184
Abstract: An ultra-high pressure high pressure discharge lamp device in which the lamp voltage and the distance between the lamp electrodes can be kept stable is achieved by an operating device supplying an alternating current with rectangular waves to the discharge lamp and control is exercised such that a lower boundary value is set and the operating voltage is increased by reducing the operating frequency of the discharge lamp by a given amount, when the operating voltage of the discharge lamp is below the set lower boundary value. Furthermore, control can also be exercised in such a way that an upper boundary value is set and the operating voltage is reduced by increasing the operating frequency of the discharge lamp by a given amount when the operating voltage of the discharge lamp exceeds the set upper boundary value.

  • Publication number: 20040075392
Abstract: Alternating current with rectangular waves is supplied from an operating device to an ultra-high pressure discharge lamp in which located within a silica glass discharge vessel is a pair of opposed electrodes separated by a distance of less than or equal to 1.5 mm. A discharge vessel is filled with greater than or equal to 0.15 mg/mm3 mercury and bromine in the range of 10−6 &mgr;mol/mm3 to 10−2 &mgr;mol/mm3. In the operating device, a multiplication device computes the discharge wattage supplied to the discharge lamp and controlled so that in the case of a reduction of the operating voltage of the discharge lamp the discharge wattage is reduced, and that in the case of an increase of the operating voltage of the discharge lamp the discharge wattage is increased.

  • Publication number: 20040004448
Abstract: A device which improves the starting of a high pressure discharge lamp containing a large amount of mercury, in which the amount of mercury adhering to the lamp electrodes is not the same, by shortening the formation time of the glow discharge in order to reduce the sputtering of the electrodes to a minimum. When the discharge lamp starts, an AC voltage with rectangular waves produced by the full bridge circuit is applied to the discharge lamp. Next, a high voltage pulse is superimposed and applied by an igniter device; the pulse is synchronized to the polarity of the above described AC voltage with rectangular waves. As a result, an alternating current discharge is started in the discharge lamp. Then, the ON/OFF state of the switching devices in the full bridge circuit is fixed and a direct current voltage is applied to the lamp. After a pre-selected time has expired after the transition into direct current operation, the full bridge circuit is operated such that rectangular alternating current waves form.

  • Publication number: 20030214986
Abstract: As a composite laser rod capable of satisfying the positional stability and output stability of a laser beam, a laser rod in which a laser active element is doped is intimately inserted into a hollow portion of a non-doped ceramic pipe that has a crystal structure the same as the laser rod followed by baking so as to remove a gap and strain at an interface between the laser rod and the ceramic pipe after the baking further followed by polishing a surface of the ceramic pipe to form a ceramic skin layer, and thereby a composite laser rod is formed. In the composite laser rod, an influence due to fluctuation in the cooling capacity of cooling water or a heat sink is averaged by a non-doped skin layer, temperature fluctuation of the laser rod is suppressed, and an influence of vibration from the cooling water or a cooling fan can be suppressed.

  • Publication number: 20030077397
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a hot-dip plated metal strip comprising the steps of: introducing a metal strip into a molten metal bath of plating metal to adhere the molten metal onto the surface of the metal strip; taking out the metal strip, after turning the running direction of the metal strip, from the molten metal bath without applying external force from outside the surface of the metal strip; adjusting the plating weight of the molten metal adhered onto the metal strip; and controlling the shape of the metal strip using magnetic force in non-contact state directly before or after the step of adjusting the coating weight. The invention prevents adhesion of dross to the metal strip without degrading the productivity, and thus manufactures a high quality hot-dip plated metal strip.

  • Patent number: 6131882
Abstract: A butterfly valve comprising a cylindrical valve body (1), a sheet ring (5) fitted into the inner periphery of the valve body (1), and a discoid valve discoid valve disk (3) for opening or closing the valve. When the valve is opened by rotating the valve disk (3), a gap forms at the half of the valve disk (3) that is rotated downstream between the sheet ring (5) and the sealing surface (3c) of the valve disk (3). The gap between the sheet ring (5) and the sealing surface (3c) of the valve disk (3) expands and a second gap is formed at the half of the valve disk (3) that is rotated upstream between the sheet ring (5) and the sealing surface (3c) as the valve disk (3) further opens. The sheet ring (5) is not influenced by turbulent flow produced due to a narrowed channel (4) because the sheet ring (5) is positioned to the upstream side of a position where the channel (4) is most narrowed when a valve opening rate is approximately 15% in which the load applied to the sheet ring (5) due to fluid is maximized.
