    Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a photoelectric converter, a multiple-value circuit, and a detachable external storage unit. The photoelectric converter photoelectrically coverts data of an original into image signals. The multiple-value circuit converts the image signals into multiple-valued data by comparing the image signals with predetermined threshold value data. The detachable external storage stores the threshold value data. The threshold values can also be made automatically responsive to gray scale data. The automatic mode and the manual selection mode are switched between in response to a release (toggle) signal. Color separation and color ghost correction are provided; and various types of formatting management are faciliated. Partial color converting (as, for example, color reversal) is also provided.

The density and color data are generated as parallel data. A write mode of a memory is set. A memory content is repeated updated in correspondence with the density data and the color data. A read mode of the memory is set. A memory content corresponding to one of the color data is externally read out. Threshold values are set in units of color data on the basis of the memory content read out from the memory. Recording density data having a smaller number of bits is formed by the set threshold values on the basis of the density data. Recording is performed on the basis of the formed recording density data.

    Abstract: A color image processing technique using optics to separate an original color image into a plurality of colors. These colors are photoelectrically converted to electric signals. Color information signals are then generated from these electric signals. The color information signals are coded by comparing them with a threshold value. An individualized set of such threshold values is provided for each of the plurality of colors. In one embodiment, a luminance signal is provided from the color information signals. The luminance signal is utilized in response to a monochrome code selection signal to enable the original color image to be reproduced as a monochrome image. Color gamut information and color density information of the color gamut can be obtained from the color information signals during a first scan of a document bearing the color image.
