  • Patent number: 4963186
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for operating blast furnace, wherein, when charging coke and ore alternately from the furnace top to form alternate coke and ore layers for operation of a blast furnace, a coke layer is formed by charging coke of properties especially suitable for improvement of gas and liquid permeability of the coke layer to the central part thereof or an ore layer is formed by charging ordinary versatile type coke to the central part of the ore layer prior to formation thereof. The centrally charged coke forms a major part of the dead coke layer which is sequentially renewed under the cohesive zone of the blast furnace to maintain appropriate gas and liquid permeability of the dead coke layer, thereby enhancing the production efficiency and stability of the blast furnace operation while suppressing erosive wear of refractory walls of the furnace.

  • Patent number: 4930955
Abstract: A chuck for clamping a discoid portion of a work piece includes a base, at least two fixed clamps secured on a front end surface of the base, a movable clamp adjacent to the front end surface of the base and a pin secured to the front end surface of the base. The pin is adapted to fit in a hole formed in the discoid when the discoid is mounted on the chuck wherein the hole has a larger diameter than the pin. Furthermore, the pin is positioned radially inwardly of the movable clamp toward the chuck center and oriented so that the two fixed clamps are equiangularly spaced about and equidistantly spaced from the pin. As a result, the discoid may move relative to the pin and toward the two fixed clamps, without rotation thereof. Accordingly, the centroidal axis of the discoid may be aligned with the rotational axis of the chuck so that precision machining may be achieved.

  • Patent number: 4913635
Abstract: A scroll type compressor includes a housing having an inner chamber and fluid inlet and outlet ports connected to the inner chamber. A fixed scroll is mounted within the housing and has a circular end plate from which a first spiral element extends. An orbiting scroll is also mounted within the housing for orbital motion with respect to the fixed scroll, and includes a circular end plate from which a second spiral element extends. The fixed scroll and the orbiting scroll are maintained angularly and radially offset from each other so that the spiral elements interfit to form a plurality of line contacts between their spiral curved surfaces which seal-off and define at least one pair of fluid pockets. The orbital movement of the orbiting scroll relative to the fixed scroll shifts the line contacts along the spiral curved surfaces of the spiral elements which changes the volume of the fluid pockets.

  • Patent number: 4287969
Abstract: A motion snubbing device in which an internal gear is fixed on a shaft rotating in accordance with relative axial movement of a pair of support members, and an inertia mass is rotated by operation of a planetary gearing mechanism with the internal gear as an input gear thereof on its own axis. When the level of drastic external force applied to the device exceeds a critical value, the planetary gearing mechanism starts revolving induced by retarded rotation of the inertia mass. An actuating lever connected to the planetary gearing mechanism applies initial force for constrictive winding to a clutch spring which is normally at a standstill, thereby causing the spring to wind automatically around a brake drum fixed on the shaft so that the shaft is prevented from rotation through the drum.
