  • Patent number: 6889626
Abstract: A meter for a motor vehicle includes a meter case 4 for protecting components of the meter which are incorporated therein, and a front cover 9 composed of a prism which is a part of a convex lens and provided in front of the meter case 4. A dial plate 5 of the meter has an outer contour in a substantially elliptical shape so that a virtual image of the dial plate as seen through the front cover 9 may look like a substantially perfect circle. Since the virtual image of the dial plate 5 is expanded in a vertical direction due to magnification inherent in the prism 9, the dial plate 5 formed in a substantially elliptical shape will be deformed into a substantially perfect circle in sight.

  • Publication number: 20050052752
Abstract: The combiner 1 has a resin base 11 and a reflecting and polarizing member 12. The reflecting and polarizing member 12 is unitarily molded with the resin base 11 as an insert and has a polarizer plate 12A covered by a reflector film 12B. At a border B of the reflector member 12 with the resin base 11, a gradation printed layer 13a is provided. Preferably, the reflector film has an undercoat layer 12d, a reflecting coat layer 12e, an overcoat layer 12f, and a top coat layer 12g. The undercoat layer prevents the reflector film from being stripped out of the polarizer plate, and the reflector film has a predetermined reflectance. The reflecting coat layer is protected by the overcoat layer, and the top coat layer has a water repellency.

  • Publication number: 20050024490
Abstract: A head-up display device having an excellent appearance, which has a simple structure and an excellent design upon both nonuse and use, is provided. A cover having a shape equivalent to that of an aperture formed on an upper surface of a housing is attached on an upper surface of a retractable reflector. The cover slides on the upper surface of the reflector cooperating with a retractable motion of the reflector, thereby performing the opening and closing action of the aperture. When the reflector takes its falling-down posture, the reflector and its rotation shaft can be shielded from an eye range and the number of the parting lines can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6842292
Abstract: The light emitted from a warning display unit 16 is passed through a front glass 18 formed at the opening of a dash board 17 and a semi-permeable combiner 12 having a first polarizing plate 12b in this order so that it is guided to a driver's view point I. A second polarizing plate having the same polarizing direction as that of the first polarizing plate 12b is formed on the surface of the front glass 18. In this configuration, the wash-out in the warning display unit, i.e. a light emitting source, arranged behind a combiner can be prevented and visual recognition of the light emitting source can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6674578
Abstract: A display device for a motor vehicle includes an indicator 3 for providing a displayed image, arranged internally in the vehicle; a combiner 5 for reflecting image light of the displayed image toward an eye point I of a driver of the vehicle, a virtual image S of the displayed image which can be visually recognized from the eye point being displayed on the combiner 5; and meter units 9, 9 for displaying a status of the vehicle as a real image, the meter units being located between the combiner and the eye point at a position outside an optical path of the image light of the displayed image. The combiner 5 has a contour which can be visually recognized from the eye point and nearly surrounds the virtual image and a real image of the meter units 9, 9. In such a configuration, a display with a sense of unity between a real image and a virtual image can be realized while avoiding an increase of a dashboard in size and complication thereof in structure.

  • Patent number: 6563649
Abstract: The object is to display an image projected by a display device, installed in a vehicle dashboard, for displaying an information data in the optimum field of vision for a driver and to make a driver recognize visually. Projected light (image) by a liquid crystal display 12 is polarized (horizontal polarization) by a polarizing plate 12a mounted on the surface of the liquid crystal display 12 and reaches the first polarizing plate 9 through a prism 11. Since the polarizing direction of the first polarizing plate 9 is perpendicular to that of the polarizing plate 12a, the projected image is reflected toward a eye position 6 by the first polarizing plate 9. External incident light on the area AR1, limited by the first polarizing plate 9, is polarized (vertical polarization) by passing the first polarizing plate 9.

  • Patent number: 6563492
Abstract: A multi-function switch unit having at least one operation button, a screen located at the rear of the operation button to display an image of function of the operation button. The image on the screen is visible through the operation button. An input device sets the transfer direction and transfer distance of the position of the image on the screen. An indication position adjusting device moves the image position on the screen according to the transfer direction and distance input by the input device such that the image transferred is better visible through the operation button. The multi-function switch unit may have a plurality of the operation buttons and can display a plurality of marks each indicating one of different directions such that the marks each are visible through different one of the operation buttons.
