  • Patent number: 7298903
Abstract: A system for separating text and drawings in a digital ink file (e.g., a handwritten digital ink file). A stroke analyzer classifies single strokes that have been input by a user as “text” or “unknown.” The stroke analyzer utilizes a trainable classifier, such as a support vector machine. A grouping component is provided that groups text strokes in an attempt to form text objects (e.g., words, characters, or letters). The grouping component also groups unknown strokes in an attempt to form objects (e.g., shapes, drawings, or even text). A trainable classifier, such as a support vector machine, evaluates the grouped strokes to determine if they are objects.

  • Patent number: 7295708
Abstract: A system and method for detection of a list in ink input is provided. A detector is provided that may detect a list such as a bulleted or numbered list of items in ink input. A group of lines may first be selected as a candidate list. Indentation level clustering and bullet detection may then be performed to determine the structure of the list. Bullet detection may be performed by detecting bullet partners, which are pairs of lines at the same indentation level that may begin with bullet candidates with similar features. The features of the bullet candidates in a pair of lines may be used to determine the likelihood of whether the pair of lines may be bullet partners. Finally, the structure of the list may be determined, including the relationship among the list items.

  • Publication number: 20070183664
Abstract: Ink-parser-parameter optimization may be performed via parallel processing to accelerate searching for a set of optimal ink-parser parameters. Evaluators may parse pages of ink notes with different groups of parameters and may compute corresponding values for evaluation functions. Separate evaluation functions may be defined for the following types of ink-parker parsing engines: writing parser, writing/drawing classification, table detection, and list detection. A searcher may perform a grid-searching algorithm or a genetic algorithm to generate groups of parameters and may then pass the parameters to available evaluators for evaluation until evaluation-function values for a group of parameters satisfy a convergence condition.

  • Publication number: 20070036418
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reconstruction of a region of interest for an object is provided. The reconstruction of the object may be based on chords which may fill a part, all, or more than all of the region of interest. Using chords for reconstruction may allow for reducing data acquired and/or processing for reconstructing a substantially exact image of the ROI. Moreover, various methodologies may be used in reconstructing the image, such as backprojection-filtration, and modified filtration backprojection.

  • Publication number: 20060290698
Abstract: A method and system for compressing and displaying a digital ink trace. Raw ink data is smoothed, and sharp points of the smoothed line are found. Curve-fitting is then used to generate a mathematical expression that defines the line segments between adjacent sharp points. The ink trace then is represented by a backbone spline that includes the sharp points and the mathematical expressions for the line segments. Thickness information, such as pressure or acceleration information, is combined with the backbone spline to provide a compressed ink file that represents a contour curve of the original ink trace. A display module uses an algorithm to separate the contour curve into a sequence of straight lines. A set of pixels is then generated for the display of each straight line using a novel antialiasing method. The pixels at the ends of adjacent straight lines are aligned using a weighting algorithm.

  • Patent number: 7050632
Abstract: Electronic ink layout analysis systems and methods provide flexibility and efficiency in organizing, analyzing, and processing digital ink. These layout analysis systems and methods allow users substantial freedom in entering electronic ink into a pen-based computer system. Using these systems and methods, a user's input digital ink is not constrained by requirements that a user write in a specific screen orientation, that a user write in one specific orientation on all portions of a page, or that a user write using a specific minimum or maximum sized stroke. Rather, the systems and methods freely allow the user to write anywhere on a given page, in any orientation or size, while still enabling effective and efficient handwriting recognition and other processing of the input digital ink.

  • Publication number: 20060062466
Abstract: A mechanism for recognizing and inputting handwritten mathematical expressions into a computer by providing a multi-path framework is described. The framework may include symbol grouping and recognition, tabular structure analysis, subordinate sub-expression analysis, subscript/superscript analysis and character determination, and semantic structure analysis components. A method for recognizing a handwritten mathematical expression includes receiving a plurality of input strokes corresponding to a handwritten mathematical expression and providing a candidate list of recognized candidate expressions based upon the input strokes. Input strokes are grouped into symbols, tabular structures are determined, dominant symbol candidates and subordinate symbols are determined, and subscript and superscript structures are determined.

  • Publication number: 20060062471
Abstract: A mechanism for recognizing and inputting handwritten mathematical expressions into a computer by providing part of a multi-path framework is described. The part of the multi-path framework includes a subordinate sub-expression analysis component. A method for analyzing a handwritten mathematical expression for a subordinate sub-expression includes identifying sub-expressions based on dominant symbols and determining a character for potential dominant symbols based upon sub-expression information. A determination may be made whether an expression structure candidate is valid and valid expression structure candidates may be stored in a parse tree.

  • Publication number: 20060061956
Abstract: A computer case includes a chassis (70), a cage (10) pivotably engaging with the chassis, a securing member (50) and an intermediate member (30). The cage has a locked position and a unlocked position. The securing member is mounted to the chassis. A receiving portion (57) is formed at the securing member. The intermediate member pivotably connects with the securing member and the cage respectively, and includes a resilient portion (35) corresponding to the receiving portion. When the cage is in the locked position, the resilient portion engages in the receiving portion. When the cage is in the unlocked position, the resilient portion disengages from the receiving portion.

  • Publication number: 20030215145
Abstract: Flexible and efficient systems and methods for analyzing digital or electronic ink may automatically classify electronic ink strokes on a page into one or more types of stroke (such as drawing strokes, text strokes, music strokes, mathematical strokes, charts, flowcharts, tables, graphs, etc.). The systems and methods may include an input for receiving input ink data including at least one stroke set, and a processor for determining the type of stroke contained in the stroke set based, at least in part, on information regarding the contextual environment relating to the stroke set. The contextual environment relating to the stroke set may include one or more contextual features regarding the stroke set. These contextual features may include, for example, various features relating to the stroke(s) within the first stroke set, features relating to stroke(s) located within a predetermined range of the first stroke set, and/or features relating to stroke(s) associated in some manner with the first stroke set.
