  • Publication number: 20190277953
Abstract: Embodiments discussed herein refer to LiDAR systems and methods that monitor for fault conditions that could potentially result in unsafe operation of a laser. The systems and methods can monitor for faulty conditions involving a transmitter system and movement of mirrors in a scanning system. When a fault condition is monitored, a shutdown command is sent to the transmitter system to cease laser transmission. The timing by which the laser should cease transmission is critical in preventing unsafe laser exposure, and embodiments discussed herein enable fault detection and laser shutoff to comply with laser safety standards.

  • Publication number: 20190258051
Abstract: A multi-directional bar code scanning device having multiple laser emitters matched with a single photosensitive receiver is disclosed. Multiple paths of laser beams generated by N laser emitters are projected towards a rotatable reflector group via a light projection reflector, and the rotatable reflector group projects the laser beams towards tilted reflector groups, such that multiple paths of laser scanning beams are generated and projected towards a bar code. A beam scatter by the bar code is reflected reversely towards a light collection reflector and focused on a single photosensitive receiver. The device can increase the number of scanning beams and the scanning directions, thereby expanding the scope of depth of field, and preventing the issues which multiple photosensitive receiver cannot operate simultaneously when a single channel is utilized and preventing non-coaxial optical signal crosstalk, thus improving decoding speed, and lowering the cost of the device.

  • Patent number: 9450377
Abstract: A laser diode assembly contains a plurality of laser diode chips packaged closely in a row. Each laser diode chip is bonded on both P-side and N-side to first and second sub-mounts. The sub-mounts are then attached to a cooling carrier, with both bonding surfaces perpendicular to the top surface of the carrier. The direction of laser radiation is parallel to the carrier top surface, and the distance between the top of the active area of the laser diode chip and the carrier is preferably in a range of half a pitch between individual laser sources packaged in a row or preferably in a range of 0.2 mm to 1 mm to allow efficient cooling for high power operation. The sub-mounts may be electrically conductive, or they may be of insulating material at least partially covered with a conducting layer. A laser diode chip is bonded uniquely to a set of sub-mounts or may share a sub-mount with another laser diode chip.

  • Publication number: 20160197151
Abstract: A conductive, porous gallium-nitride layer can be formed as an active layer in a multilayer structure adjacent to one or more p-type III-nitride layers, which may be buried in a multilayer stack of an integrated device. During an annealing process, dopant-bound atomic species in the p-type layers that might otherwise neutralize the dopants may dissociate and out-diffuse from the device through the porous layer. The release and removal of the neutralizing species may reduce layer resistance and improve device performance.
