Patent number: 8022688Abstract: Real power delivered to a load in an RF transmit path is measured. Measuring the real power includes supplying a first voltage from a first side of a passive network disposed between the power amplifier and the load, supplying a second voltage from a second side of the passive network; and using the first and second voltages and a phase delayed voltage to determine the real power delivered to the load. A voltage difference between the first and second voltages is determined and multiplied by the phase shifted voltage. A low pass filter is then applied to the output of the multiplier to provide an indication of the real power consumed by the load. The indication of real power consumed may then be used to control the power amplifier.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2009Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Black Sand Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Zhong You

Patent number: 7746972Abstract: A numerically-controlled phase-lock loop with input clock dependent ratio adjustment provides for narrower-bandwidth loops that lock to a wide range of frequencies and/or operation with an absent or degraded input timing reference. A timing reference characteristic detector determines an input frequency range of the input timing reference signal, the data type of the timing reference, and/or whether a timing reference signal of sufficient quality is present. A numerically controlled oscillator is controlled by a numeric ratio that is adjusted to provide the desired clock frequency output in conformity with the detected frequency range and/or data type. If the timing reference signal is absent or degraded, then the numeric ratio can be set to a fixed value or a local timing reference can be applied in order to generate the desired clock output frequency.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2007Date of Patent: June 29, 2010Assignee: Cirrus Logic, Inc.Inventors: John L. Patent number: 7680236Abstract: A hybrid analog/digital phase-lock loop for low-jitter synchronization provides a mechanism for generating a low-jitter clock from a timing reference that has a high jitter level. A numerically-controlled analog oscillator provides a clock output and has an input for receiving a rational number. The rational number represents a ratio between the frequency of the clock output and the frequency of another stable clock provided to the circuit. A counter divides the frequency of either the clock output or the stable clock, providing feedback or feed-forward control of the analog oscillator, respectively. The circuit also includes a digital phase-frequency detector for detecting an on-going phase-frequency difference between an input timing reference and an output of the divider and a digital loop filter for filtering the output of the phase-frequency detector to provide the rational number that controls the frequency of the numerically-controlled analog oscillator.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2006Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: Cirrus Logic, Inc.Inventors: John L. Patent number: 7668279Abstract: A signal processing system includes a phase-locked loop to provide an output signal used, for example, as a delta sigma modulator operating clock signal. In at least one embodiment, a frame clock that provides synchronization for one or more blocks of data is used by the phase-locked loop as a reference signal. Utilizing the frame clock as the reference signal allows the signal processing system to reduce the number of clock signals present in the signal processing system. In another embodiment, a phase-locked loop includes a loop filter that utilizes a sample and reset circuit, a feed forward integrator, and a feed forward stabilizer to provide a low frequency phase-locked loop bandwidth. In at least one embodiment, the feed forward integrator amplifies capacitance of the sample and reset circuit, which reduces the size of loop filter capacitors and, thus, allows on-chip capacitor integration.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2006Date of Patent: February 23, 2010Assignee: Cirrus Logic, Inc.Inventors: Zhong You, Hua Hong, Jeff Baumgartner, Jieren Bian

Patent number: 7277035Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing noise in a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) having a chopper amplifier output stage provides improved DAC performance. A switched-current output provided from a digital filter is coupled to the input of a chopper amplifier. The current switches are non-uniform, so that extra zeros are provided at the chopping frequency of the chopping amplifier, thereby reducing noise that would otherwise be aliased in-band at the output of the chopper amplifier. The current switches may include a first set of half-magnitude switches followed by a set of full-magnitude switches and finally by another set of half-magnitude switches having a size equal to that of the first set.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2006Date of Patent: October 2, 2007Assignee: Cirrus Logic, Inc.Inventors: Zhong You, Brian David Trotter, John L. Patent number: 7218114Abstract: In a shimming method for an irregular object to be examined by magnetic resonant equipment magnetic field parameters are measured at measurement points located on the surface of an irregular object to be examined. Based on the measured magnetic field parameters, the positions and number of shims for adjusting magnetic field homogeneity are calculated when a passive shimming is to be performed, or the current value in a shimming coil are calculated when an active shimming is to be performed, or at the same time both the positions and number of shims and current value in the shimming coil are calculated when active shimming and passive shimming are to be performed at the same time. Shimming is then performed according to the calculated results. These above steps are repeated until achieving required magnetic field homogeneity.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2006Date of Patent: May 15, 2007Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Cheng Ni, Hui Cao, Jin Jun Chen, Zhong You Ren
