    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for redistributing the license tokens to the traffic nodes to make the license tokens can be efficiently distributed to the traffic node. The method including: collecting usage information of each of the traffic nodes; determining a set of license tokens for each of the traffic nodes; and commanding a first group of traffic node(s) to release license tokens and commanding a second group of traffic node(s) to request license tokens based on the usage information and the set of license tokens. A moderator, used in a license controlling system which can efficiently redistribute the license tokens among the traffic nodes, is provided and a controlling system which including this moderator is also provided.

    Abstract: A system and method for managing edge servers and the location of edge servers in a content delivery network is provided. Incoming content requests to a plurality of existing edge servers are analyzed with respect to their originating locations. It is determined that a new edge server should be added to the network at a location where none of the plurality of existing edge servers reside. A data center is selected in accordance with the desired location, and a new edge server is instantiated. Traffic handled by two or more of the existing edge servers can be consolidated and routed to the new edge server. Edge servers are dynamically added to and removed from the network.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for managing the traffic load of a delivery node being in a state BLOCKED or UNBLOCKED. The method comprises the step determining that the traffic load of the delivery node is within a pair of upper and lower limits. The method also comprise the step of changing the state of the delivery node upon the determination that the traffic load of a delivery node is within the pair of upper and lower limits. Changing the state is changing from UNBLOCKED to BLOCKED or from BLOCKED to UNBLOCKED. The invention also relates to a delivery node suitable for implementing the method disclosed hereinabove.

    Abstract: An instant messaging service is provided using short message service (SMS) messages as the underlying transport layer. A user having a phone associated with an MSISDN can use a client to generate messages that are then transmitted as if they originated from the phone. The SMS message is delivered to the second party's phone as per a normal SMS message. If the second party is also using a client, the client can retrieve messages addressed to the second party's MSISDN even though client does not need to be associated with the MSISDN. The use of SMS messages provides for a persistent and reliable transport layer, and also allows for fall back to SMS messaging for either party independently.

    Abstract: An instant messaging service is provided using short message service (SMS) messages as the underlying transport layer. The SMS message is delivered to the second party's phone as per a normal SMS message and a copy of the SMS message can also be delivered to the sender's phone to provide a full conversation history on all devices. The entity can also be used to receive SMS messages, in which case, delivery of SMS messages to the phone to which the MSISDN is assigned can be suspend to avoid a duplicate notification of incoming messages.

    Abstract: Temporal metadata associated with media content drives bilateral interaction between a media server and an IPTV control server during streaming of that content from the media server. Specifically, the metadata is encoded to indicate, and associate together, a defined point in the media content's presentation timeline and a defined operation, such as the fetching of supplemental media content or the sending of a notification. The media server inspects this metadata and, based on that inspection, notifies the IPTV control server when the defined point has been reached in the context of streaming the media content. Responsive to receiving this notification, the IPTV control server inspects the metadata to identify the operation associated with the notified point in the content's timeline. The IPTV control server then initiates the performance of the identified operation and returns a response to the media server that pertains to such performance.

A cluster of mobile stations, which act as M2M gateways for a number of M2M devices, form a virtual high availability management pool which provides access to a telecommunications network.     Abstract: Teachings herein include a first machine-to-machine (M2M) device manager in a local area network (LAN). The first manager receives operating information for a first M2M device managed by the first manager. This operating information may indicate, for example, the operating state (e.g., on or off) of the first device. Responsive to receiving this operating information, the first manager coordinates operation of a second M2M device that is managed by a second M2M device manager in the LAN. The first manager effectively does so by evaluating the received operating information according to a set of policy-based rules, generating control signaling according to that evaluation, and then sending the generated control signaling to the second manager. Because this control signaling is sent horizontally between different M2M device managers, rather than vertically to some centralized server, such operation coordination can occur across M2M devices that would not otherwise be inter-operable.
