COMPUTER PACKAGING ASSEMBLY

A computer packaging assembly for packing and protecting a computer case (30) therein, includes a packaging box (10) for receiving the computer case therein, and a pair of cushions (20) received in the packaging box and engaging with top and bottom ends of the computer casing respectively. Each cushion includes a frame (24) cushioning against horizontal collision to the computer case, and at least a rib (22) firmly attached to an outside surface of the frame to cushioning against vertical collision to the computer case. The frame is made from expanded polyethylene material, and the ribs are made from extruded polyethylene material.

BACKGROUND

1. Technical Field

The present invention relates to packaging assemblies, and more particularly to a packaging assembly of a computer.

2. General Background

Polylone is packaging material widely used for cushioning and protecting goods from external forces. But, due to the fact that Polylone may be detrimental to the environment, it is gradually being replaced by other packaging materials such as polyethylene foam.

Expanded polyethylene and extruded polyethylene are usually used to make foams, which are usually in packaging. The cost of the expanded polyethylene foams is less than that of the extruded polyethylene, but capability of reducing vibration of extruded polyethylene is better than that of expanded polyethylene. Generally, the expanded polyethylene foams and the extruded polyethylene foams are respectively used in different kinds of packaging that cannot make use of their respective advantages.

What is needed, therefore, is a computer packaging assembly using both expanded polyethylene foams and extruded polyethylene foams to fully make use of their advantage.

SUMMARY

A computer packaging assembly for packing and protecting a computer case therein, includes a packaging box for receiving the computer case therein, and a pair of cushions received in the packaging box engaging with top and bottom ends of the computer casing respectively. Each cushion includes a frame cushioning against horizontal collision to the computer case, and at least a rib firmly attached to an outside surface of the frame to cushion against vertical collision to the computer case. The frame is made from expanded polyethylene material, and the ribs are made from extruded polyethylene material.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to FIG. 1, a computer packaging assembly in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, includes a packaging box 10, a pair of cushions 20. The packaging assembly is used for packing a computer case 30, a keyboard box 40, and an accessory box 50 therein.

The packaging box 10 is rectangle and defines a space 12 therein. Four plates (not labeled) are formed on edges of an exit of the space 12, and are foldable to cover the exit thereof.

Referring also to FIG. 2, each of the cushions 20 includes a rectangle frame 24 with a rectangular opening 26 defined therein, and three parallel ribs 22 firmly attached to a surface of the frame 24 across the opening 26, for reinforcing intensity of the frame 24. Lengths of the ribs 22 are equal to a width of the frame 24. The frame 24 is made from expanded polyethylene material of which a density is less than or equal to 30 kg/m3. The reinforced ribs 22 are made from extruded polyethylene material of which a density is in the range from 16 kg/m3˜96 kg/m3. The frame 24 includes a plurality of layers of expanded polyethylene pieces coupled together by hot adhesive to enhance anti-impact capability. Thickness of each expanded polyethylene piece is less than or equal to 15 mm (millimeter). The ribs 22 are integrally formed as a single unity. The thickness of the frame 24 is greater than that of the ribs 22.

Top and bottom ends of the computer case 30 are respectively received in the openings 26 of the cushions 20 during transport, and the ribs 22 of the cushions 20 protect against upward or downward impact to the computer case 30, and the frames 24 of the cushions 20 protect against horizontal impacts to the computer case 30. Preferably, the density of the frames 24 made from expanded polyethylene is 30 kg/m3, and the density of the ribs 22 made from extruded polyethylene is 34 kg/m3.

Each frame 24 of the cushions 20 has a first protrusion 241, and a second protrusion 243 respectively protruding from opposite sides thereof. The second protrusions 243 are lower than the first protrusions 241 to accommodate the wider accessory box 50. After packing, the keyboard box 40 is sandwiched between the first protrusions 241 of the cushions 20, and the accessory box 50 is sandwiched between the second protrusions 243 of the cushions 20.

It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages have been set forth in the foregoing description of preferred embodiments, together with details of the structures and functions of the preferred embodiments, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.

Claims

1. A computer packaging assembly for packing a computer case therein, comprising:

a packaging box for receiving the computer case therein; and
a pair of cushions received in the packaging box for isolating the computer case from the packaging box and preventing the computer case moving in the packaging box, each of the cushions comprising a frame for preventing the computer case moving in a first direction, and at least a rib firmly attached to the frame for preventing the computer case moving in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction;
wherein the frame is comprised of expanded polyethylene, and the ribs are comprised of extruded polyethylene.

2. The computer packaging assembly as described in claim 1, wherein the frame comprises a plurality of layers of expanded polyethylene pieces coupled together by hot adhesive.

3. The computer packaging assembly as described in claim 1, wherein the density of the expanded polyethylene is not more than 30 kg/m3.

4. The computer packaging assembly as described in claim 3, wherein the density of the extruded polyethylene is in the range from 16-96 kg/m3.

5. The computer packaging assembly as described in claim 4, wherein the density of the expanded polyethylene is 30 kg/m3, and the density of the extruded polyethylene is 34 kg/m3.

6. The computer packaging assembly as described in claim 1, wherein the frame of each cushion defines an opening therein for respectively receiving the top or bottom end of the computer casing.

7. The computer packaging assembly as described in claim 1, wherein a length of the rib is equal to a width of the frame.

8. The computer packaging assembly as described in claim 1, wherein the frame of each cushion comprises a first protrusion configured for abutting against opposite ends of a keyboard box and a second protrusion configured for abutting against opposite ends of an accessory box.

9. A combination, comprising:

a packaging box;
at least an anti-impact cushion in the packaging box, comprising a frame with an opening therein, and a plurality of ribs firmly attached to the frame across the opening; and
a product with one end thereof received in the opening of the frame;
wherein the frame is made from expanded polyethylene materiel and the ribs are made from extruded polyethylene material with better anti-impact capacity than the expanded polyethylene material.

10. The combination as described in claim 9, wherein the frame comprises a plurality of layers of expanded polyethylene pieces coupled together by hot adhesive.

11. The combination as described in claim 9, wherein the density of the expanded polyethylene is not more than 30 kg/m3.

12. The combination as described in claim 11, wherein the density of the extruded polyethylene is in the range from 16-96 kg/m3.

13. The combination as described in claim 12, wherein the density of the expanded polyethylene is 30 kg/m3, and the density of the extruded polyethylene is 34 kg/m3.

14. The combination as described in claim 9, wherein the ribs of the cushion are parallel to and spaced from each other.

15. The combination as described in claim 9, wherein said one end of the product is supported on the ribs and surrounded by the frame of the cushion.

16. A computer package comprising:

a computer having an upper end with a top surface and a lower end with a bottom surface;
a packaging box receiving the computer therein; and
two cushions received in the packaging box and respectively disposed at the upper end and lower end of the computer, each of the cushions comprising:
a frame comprised of expanded polyethylene, the frame having four bars arranged substantially as a rectangle arrangement surrounding the respective upper end or lower end of the computer for preventing the computer case moving in a horizontal direction in the packaging box, and
a plurality of ribs comprised of extruded polyethylene, the ribs attached to the frame brought into contact with the respective top surface or lower surface of the computer for preventing the computer moving in a vertical direction in the a packaging box;

17. The computer package as described in claim 16, wherein the density of the expanded polyethylene is not more than 30 kg/m3.

18. The computer package as described in claim 17, wherein the density of the extruded polyethylene is in the range from 16-96 kg/m3.

19. The computer package as described in claim 18, wherein the density of the expanded polyethylene is 30 kg/m3, and the density of the extruded polyethylene is 34 kg/m3.
