Abstract

The present invention is a foldable chair with parasol or umbrella consumers can utilize to stay out of the sun's harsh rays while also showing which sports team they support. This unique product can prevent an avid sporting event spectator from becoming burnt by the sun's harmful rays. This product looks similar to traditional folding chairs. The chair may be produced in a variety of colors to accommodate user preferences and coordinate with team colors. Baseball type caps or cowboy/cowgirl hats may be attached to the chair. These hats may be much larger than standard hats and their size may be equivalent to that of a small umbrella. It may open and close in the same manner as traditional umbrellas. The cap may be located atop a telescoping device that will allow its height to be adjusted for individual users. The cap may have the ability to swivel.

This patent application is related to and claims priority from U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 61/190,217 filed Aug. 26, 2008.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates, in general, foldable chairs and umbrellas, more particularly, this invention relates to a foldable sports chair with attached hat shaped parasol.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Traditional folding chairs may have no way to protect users from the sun. This may have event viewers becoming painfully sun burnt. Exposure to the sun may also increase their chance of incurring skin cancer. Besides the effects the sun may have on one's health, it can also raise a person's body temperature. Many people may become hot and uncomfortable while watching a sporting event, whether it is professional or a local pickup game. It can also be common for a game to be delayed because of a light rainstorm. Having an easy way to be shielded from moisture may allow more spectators to wait out the rain and enjoy the game.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is a foldable chair with parasol or umbrella consumers can utilize to stay out of the sun's harsh rays while also showing which sports team they support. This unique product can prevent an avid sporting event spectator from becoming burnt by the sun's harmful rays. It may also assist users in clearly seeing the event instead of squinting and constantly trying to shield their eyes from the sun's glare. This innovative item can also be utilized on consumers' cabana-style beach huts and outdoor tables with umbrellas. Anyone can use this product at sporting events, concerts, drive-ins and relaxing in their yard for a novel way to show team pride while staying hidden from the sun or protected from rain.

The present invention is an apparatus that sporting event spectators can relax in while being protected from the sun or rain. This product looks similar to traditional folding chairs. The chair may be produced in a variety of colors to accommodate user preferences and coordinate with team colors. Baseball type caps or cowboy/cowgirl hats may be attached to the chair. These hats may be much larger than standard hats and their size may be equivalent to that of a small umbrella. It may open and close in the same manner as traditional umbrellas. The cap may be located atop a telescoping device that will allow its height to be adjusted for individual users. The cap may have the ability to swivel. While turned backwards, the cap may still provide shade for the user. Each chair may also have a built-in mesh cup holder. The entire product may collapse and be stored inside an included fabric carrying case for storage and transporting purposes. This item may be produced in multiple sizes, which may include small, medium and large. The exact dimensions, materials used for construction and method of operation of the present invention may vary.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

It is, therefore, one of the primary objects of the present invention to provide a foldable chair with an attached parasol with a substantially flat brim.

In addition to the various objects and advantages of the present invention described with some degree of specificity above it should be obvious that additional objects and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent to those persons who are skilled in the relevant art from the following more detailed description of the invention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A PRESENTLY PREFERRED AND VARIOUS ALTERNATIVE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

Prior to proceeding to the more detailed description of the present invention it should be noted that, for the sake of clarity and understanding, identical components which have identical functions have been identified with identical reference numerals throughout the several views illustrated in the drawing figures.

Reference is now made, more particularly, to FIGS. 1-3. In this preferred embodiment, foldable chair 10 is used in combination with parasol 12 which may be permanently attached to foldable chair 10 or could be modular in construction. In this embodiment foldable chair comprises chair frame 14, supportive fabric 16, integrated armrests 18, mesh cup holder 20 and chair feet 22. Chair frame 14 could be constructed as any foldable chair design known in the art, including the design shown in FIGS. 1-3. Supportive fabric 16 is preferably constructed of as few pieces as possible. Supportive fabric 16 could comprise any fabric known in the art, but preferably is constructed of a high tensile strength fabric such as nylon fiber or the like.

In this embodiment parasol 12 comprises foldable cap section 24, brim 26, parasol post 28 and optional lockable rotation means 30. Foldable cap section 24 and brim 26 may be constructed similarly to the umbrellas disclosed in U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,641,675 and 4,838,290 which are herein incorporated by reference. Optional lockable rotation means 30 may allow for locking the parasol 12 at any orientation or could have finite predefined lockable positions by using spring loaded pins or the like. Parasol 12 may also have means for adjusting the height of the parasol 12 by similar means or other means known in the art. Parasol 12 may be attached to chair frame 14 by means of attachment means 32. Attachment means 32 could comprise any attachment means known in the art, or the like. Attachment means 32 could simply comprises a snug fitting orifice for receiving parasol post 28, or a more elaborate mating system such as threads, pins, clips, other fasteners or the like including any combination thereof.

Reference is now made, more particularly, to FIG. 4 which shows another preferred embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment the parasol alternatively comprises cap section 24 and large brim 26.

Reference is now made, more particularly, to FIG. 5 which shows another preferred embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the chair is alternatively comprised of a beach lounger style chair 40. The parasol 12 may attach to lounger style chair 40 by any means known in the art.

Reference is now made, more particularly, to FIGS. 6 and 7 which shows one particular embodiment of the frame of the parasol. In this embodiment brim 26 is detachable from cap 24 by means of thumb screws 50. In this embodiment the length of brim 26 is at least 12.5 percent the max diameter of cap 24.

While a presently preferred and various alternative embodiments of the present invention have been described in sufficient detail above to enable a person skilled in the relevant art to make and use the same it should be obvious that various other adaptations and modifications can be envisioned by those persons skilled in such art without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Claims

1. A folding chair comprising:

a foldable chair,

a parasol,

wherein said parasol comprises a brim.

2. The folding chair of claim 1, wherein said parasol is foldable.

3. The folding chair of claim 1, further comprising a mesh cup holder.

4. The folding chair of claim 1, wherein said brim of said parasol is detachable.

5. The folding chair of claim 1, wherein said parasol comprises a parasol post with a lockable rotation means.

6. The folding chair of claim 1, wherein said parasol is detachable and reattachable to said foldable chair.

7. The folding chair of claim 1, wherein said parasol comprises a height adjustable parasol post.

8. The folding chair of claim 1, wherein said parasol comprises a telescopic parasol post.

9. A folding chair comprising: wherein said parasol post comprises a lockable rotation means.

10. The folding chair of claim 9, wherein said parasol post is a height adjustable parasol post.

13. The folding chair of claim 9, wherein said foldable chair comprises at least one armrest.
