Description
TECHNICAL FIELD

This document relates to a refrigerator and a structure for adjusting height of a shelf therefor.

BACKGROUND ART

According to a conventional structure for adjusting height of a shelf for a refrigerator, there are two types of structures, i.e., a mount type structure that both side ends of the shelf is placed on a plurality of mounts protruded from both side walls of the refrigerator in a back-and-forth direction, and a cantilever type structure that a plurality of holes are formed in a rear side surface of a refrigerating or freezing chamber and a fastening element protruded from a rear end of the shelf is inserted in the hole. The mount may be injection-molded so that some of the inner side wall of the refrigerator is protruded, or a separate mount may be installed at the inner side wall.

Specifically, in case of the mount type structure where the mount supports both side edges of the shelf, the shelf has to be separated from the refrigerator and seated on another mount disposed at different height levels in order to change the location of the shelf.

FIG. 1 shows a shelf supporting structure of a conventional cantilever type in a partial perspective view, and FIG. 2 shows a shelf supporting structure of a cantilever type in a side cross-sectional view.

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the conventional cantilever type structure includes a rail 1 fixed at the rear wall of the refrigerator, and a fastening element provided at the rear end of the shelf 3.

Specifically, a plurality of perforated holes 2 are formed in the rail 1 at regularly spaced intervals. And, the fastening element is composed of a mount 5 which is attached to the rear end of the shelf 3, and a fastening hook 4 which is bent from the upper end of the mount 5 and is inserted into the perforated hole. The mount 5 is downwardly extended for a predetermined length in order to support the turning moment due to foodstuffs placed on the shelf, and the fastening hook 4 is bent and formed in order not to be detached from the perforated hole 2.

According to the cantilever type structure. In case that the user wishes to change the height of shelf 3 on which foodstuffs are placed, the foodstuffs are removed from the shelf 3 and the fastening hook 4 is separated from the perforated hole 2 of the rail 1 and then the fastening hook 4 is hooked in the perforated hole 2 at the desired height.

In other words, in case of the conventional cantilever type structure, it is inconvenient for the user, especially for housewives, to separate and re-install the shelf 3.

In addition, the foodstuffs have to be removed from the shelf in order to change the location of the shelf according to both type structures, and therefore it is not easy to make good use of space in the refrigerator because it is almost impossible to freely change the location of the shelf.

Also, a plurality of door baskets 121 may be provided at a rear surface of the refrigerating chamber door 120. And, a plurality of shelves 20 for receiving foodstuffs are vertically arranged in the refrigerating chamber 111, and the location of the shelf 20 is determined by a rail 40 fixed to the rear wall of the refrigerating chamber 111. And, the height of the shelf 20 may be adjusted along the rail 40. This structure for adjusting height will be explained in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Also, at least one storage box 160 for storing foodstuffs can be installed in the refrigerating chamber 111, and it can be a drawer type. And, a duct for supplying cold air is provided at a rear center of the refrigerating chamber.

FIG. 4 shows a structure for adjusting height of a shelf according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention in an exploded perspective view.

Referring to FIG. 4, a structure for adjusting height of a shelf for a refrigerator according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention includes a shelf 20, a mount 32 protruded from a rear end of the shelf 20, a rail 40 attached to a rear wall inside the chamber, and an adjusting element 30 provided at a bottom surface of the shelf 20 to selectively lift/drop the shelf.

Specifically, the mount 32 is extended from a rear end of the shelf 20 to the lower side and is bent, and thus, it is tightly contacted to a front surface of the rail 40. Therefore, the shelf 20 is prevented from being crooked by the moment due to self weight of the shelf 20 and weight of the foodstuffs placed on the shelf 20.

Also, the rail 40 is vertically extended for a predetermined length, and it is installed at a point corresponding to the mount 32. And, the shelf 20 may be installed one-by-one as the width of the shelf 20 corresponds to that of the refrigerating chamber 111, or a plurality of shelves 20, which are narrower, may be arranged side-by-side. And, one shelf 20 or the plurality of shelves 20 may be vertically installed at a predetermined interval. And, a pair of rails 40 are provided for one shelf, and they support both side ends of the shelf 20.

Meanwhile, a structure, which gradually lifts or drops the shelf 20 by communicating with the adjusting element 30, is provided in the rail 40, and this structure will be explained with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Also, the adjusting element 30 is formed in the shape of a letter “U,” and is inserted in the rail 40, respectively. Specifically, the adjusting element 30 includes a releasing bar 31 which is extended in a back-and-forth direction and an operating bar 36 which connects both ends of the releasing bar 31, wherein the operating bar 36 and the releasing bar 31 are formed by bending one bar twice.

More specifically, an end of the releasing bar 31 is respectively inserted into the rail 40, the operating bar 36 is disposed at a bottom surface of a front end of the shelf 20. Therefore, the user pushes the operating bar 36 by hand in order to adjust height of the shelf 20. Here, in order to improve the convenience of use, a separate push member 37 may be provided at the approximate center of the operating bar 36. That is, the user pushes the push member 37 by hand, instead of grabbing the operating bar 36 by hand.

Also, a releasing cam 34, which vertically moves along the moving path 46 (see FIG. 5) formed in the rail 30, is provided at the end of the releasing bar 31. And, the releasing cam 34 laterally extended for a predetermined length at the end of the releasing bar 31. And, a fixing end 34 is provided on the releasing bar 31 at a location spaced apart from the releasing cam 34, and an elastic element 33 such as a spring is provided between the releasing cam 34 and the fixing end 35. Here, the elastic element 33 may be a tension spring. Therefore, the elastic element 33 is compressed when the user presses the push member 37 or the operating bar 36 to adjust height, and the adjusting element 30 is returned to its original positioned by the restoring force of the elastic element 33 when the force exerted on the push member 37 or the operating bar 36 is released.

FIG. 5 shows a rail taken along I-I′ illustrated in FIG. 4 in a side cross-sectional view, FIG. 6 shows a rail taken along II′-II′ illustrated in FIG. 5 in a horizontal cross-sectional view, and FIG. 7 shows a rail taken along III-III′ illustrated in FIG. 5 in a vertical cross-sectional view.

Referring to FIGS. 5 to 7, the rail 40 according to the embodiment of the present invention includes a rail case 41 of which a front is opened and the releasing cam 34 is moveably received therein, a stopper 44 of which both sides of the front end of the rail case 41 are bent toward each other, a guide element 43 protruded from the inner rear surface of the rail case 41 at regularly spaced intervals, and a support element 42 protruded from the rear surface of the stopper 44 at regularly spaced intervals.

Specifically, the stopper 44 prevents the releasing cam 34 from being detached from the rail case 41 as the front end of the rail case 41 is bent toward each other. And, ends of the stopper 44 are spaced apart from each other, and the releasing bar 31 is vertically moved along the spaced apart portion. That is, the spaced apart portion formed by the stopper 44 serves to guide the elevation of the releasing bar 31.

Also, the moving path 46 of the releasing cam 34 is formed by a support element 42 protruded from the rear surface of the stopper 44, and a guide element 43 protruded from the inner rear surface of the rail case 41.

Specifically, the moving path 46 is composed of a height adjusting path 461 which is obliquely formed in a vertical direction, a fixing path 462 which is formed in a back-and-forth direction. And, the guide element 43 and the support element 42 are formed at an appropriate position so that the height adjusting path 461 and the fixing path 462 are alternately formed.

Concretely, as a tip of the guide element 43 is disposed at a concave portion of the support element 42, the moving path 46 is formed in the shape of a letter “S.” And, since the upper part of the support element 42 constitutes a horizontal portion 45, the releasing cam 34 may be horizontally moved. That is, the moving path 46 is composed of a fixing path 462 which is flat in a back-and-forth direction, and a height adjusting path 461 which is obliquely formed in a vertical direction.

Meanwhile, the releasing bar 31 is inserted into the spaced apart portion formed between the stoppers 44 as it perforates a vertical surface of the mount 32. And, the elastic element 33 is compressed and elongated by intervening between the fixing end 35 and the mount 32. And, in order to connect the shelf 20 to the rail 40, the releasing cam 34 is positioned at the upper end of the rail 40. In this state, if the shelf 20 is downwardly moved, the releasing cam 34 is inserted into the moving path 46 formed at the inner side of the rail 40.

The operation process of the structure for adjusting height of the shelf will be explained.

First, in case of lifting the shelf 20, the user lifts the shelf without using the adjusting element 30. And then, the releasing cam 34 smoothly moved along the fixing path 462 and the height adjusting path 461.

Specifically, the elastic element 33 is compressed as soon as the releasing cam 34 is entered to an entry of the height adjusting path 461 after being departed from the fixing path 462. And, the elastic element 33 is continuously compressed while the releasing cam 34 is raised along the height adjusting path 461. And, the elastic element 33 is maximally compressed just when the releasing cam 34 is positioned at the top of the height adjusting path 461. And, the elastic element 33 is elongated by the restoring force, and the releasing cam 34 is moved and seated on the horizontal portion 45 of the support element 42 when the releasing cam 34 is re-entered to the fixing path 462. And, the releasing cam 34 is tightly contacted to the bottom surface of the stopper 44.

As described in the above, the releasing cam 34 passes through the fixing path 462 and the height adjusting path 461 in sequence by lifting the shelf 20, and therefore the shelf 20 is gradually raised. And, the adjusting element 30 is automatically moved in a forward direction after it is backwardly moved even if the user does not operate the adjusting element, while lifting the shelf 20.

Meanwhile, in case of lowering the shelf 20, the user presses the push member 37 or the operating bar 36 of the adjusting element 30. And then, the releasing cam 34 is rearwardly moved and is departed from the horizontal portion 45 od the support element 42, as the elastic element 33 is compressed. And, the releasing cam 34 is descended along the lower slanted surface of the guide element 43. In this state, the shelf 20 is downwardly moved due to the weight of the shelf 20 itself and the foodstuffs placed on the shelf 20, even though the forced exerted on the adjusting element 30 is released. And, the releasing cam 34 is descended along the height adjusting path 461, and the elastic element 33 is returned to its original state. And, when the releasing cam 34 reaches the fixing path 462, it is seated on the horizontal portion 45 of the support element 42 by the restoring force of the elastic element 33.

The shelf 20 is gradually lowered by the above operation, and the shelf 20 is prevented from being suddenly dropped due to the weight of foodstuffs. Of course, the user repeats to press the operating bar 36 or the push element 37 for the number corresponding to the height P.

By means of the above operations, the adjusting element 30 is moved in a back-and-forth direction while the shelf 20 is vertically moved.

FIG. 8 shows a structure for adjusting height of a shelf for a refrigerator according to another preferred embodiment of the present invention in a side cross-sectional view.

Referring to FIG. 8, technical constituents of an adjusting element 50, i.e. a releasing bar 51, an elastic element 53 and a fixing end 55, are the same as those of FIGS. 5 to 7, however the shape of a mount 52 provided at the rear end of the shelf 20 is different.

Specifically, the mount 52 according to the embodiment of the present invention is vertically extended from the rear end of the shelf 20 to the lower side and is tightly contacted to the stopper 44 of the rail 40. The mount 52 shown in FIGS. 5 to 7 is downwardly extended at a point spaced from the rear end of the shelf 20, however the mount 52 according to the embodiment of the present invention is downwardly extended from the rear end of the shelf 20 and is not bent. Therefore, the rear surface of the shelf 20 and the rear surface of the mount 52 are tightly contacted to the stopper 44 of the rail 40, thereby supporting the moment exerted on the shelf 20.
