HEIGHT-ADJUSTABLE CAPS FOR CONCRETE SHUTTERING FORMWORK

Abstract

Concrete shuttering formwork according to the present disclosure comprises a body, a height-adjustable cap, and an optional, detachable void cap. Generally, concrete shuttering formwork assembled utilizing the height-adjustable cap according to the present disclosure stays in place and allows adjoining bays to be poured one after the other. Once the poured concrete has cured, the detachable void cap can either be left in place or removed. If removed, the resulting gap can subsequently be filled with a joint sealant.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

BACKGROUND

The present disclosure relates to concrete shuttering formwork with height-adjustable caps. U.S. Patent Publication No. 2011/0214376 A1 (Jaycock) is drawn to a shuttering formwork for the pouring of concrete slabs. Newly poured concrete is in a wet and fluid form, and needs to be maintained in position until it cures and can hold its own shape. When poured, the concrete is typically leveled and then left to set. According to a first aspect of Jaycock, the there is provided a shuttering formwork comprising an elongate body member with a base portion and a compression portion extending from the base portion. The elongate body member comprises a first side and a second side, each side comprising a compression portion side face and a base portion upper face. A strip element is releasably attachable to the free end of the compression portion. Advantageously, the compression portion side face and the base portion upper face of at least one side of the elongate body member each provide a resiliently deformable surface and, as such, can be used between two concrete bays, separating them.

BRIEF SUMMARY

The shuttering formwork of the present disclosure is intended to be used in a manner that is analogous to the general manner in which Jaycock is used, with the obvious exception of the height-adjustable cap, which is described in detail herein.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring initially to FIG. 1, it is noted that shuttering formwork 10 according to the present disclosure comprises a body 20, a height-adjustable cap 30, and an optional, detachable void cap 40. Generally, a concrete shuttering formwork 10 assembled utilizing the height-adjustable cap 30 according to the present disclosure stays in place and allows adjoining bays to be poured one after the other. Once the poured concrete has cured, the detachable void cap 40 can either be left in place or removed. If removed, the resulting gap can subsequently be filled with a joint sealant. By way of example, and not by way of limitation, a height-adjustable cap 30 according to the present disclosure may be readily incorporated with the type of formwork illustrated in US Patent Publication No. 2011/0214376 A1.

In use, the body 20 is anchored on grade and the height-adjustable cap 30 is adjusted to a suitable height. The longitudinal incline of the cap 30 can also be adjusted to a desired level. Once in place, the cap 30 can be attached to the body with a self-tapping screw. Score lines 35 are provided for easy size adjustment.

More specifically, although some aspects of the present invention are identified herein as preferred or particularly advantageous, it is contemplated that the present invention is not necessarily limited to these preferred aspects of the invention

Claims

1. Concrete shuttering formwork comprising a body and a height-adjustable cap mounted about a vertical extension of the body.

2. Concrete shuttering formwork as claimed in claim 1 wherein the body is configured to be anchored on grade and the height-adjustable cap is configured to be adjusted to a suitable height and longitudinal inclination.

3. Concrete shuttering formwork as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a detachable void cap mounted to the height adjustable cap.
