Description

Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Chrysanthemum x morifolium.

Varietal denomination: ‘CIFZ0124’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new Chrysanthemum, botanically known as Chrysanthemum x morifolium, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘CIFZ0124’.

‘CIFZ0124’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has medium size plant with round plant habit, a medium size decorative flower, purple flower color and a natural season response late September.

‘CIFZ0124’ originated from a mutation of X-ray treated cuttings in October 2022 in Fort Myers, Florida. ‘CIFZ0124’ was selected from the resulting plants on Apr. 17, 2023 in Alva, Florida

The sport parent was a proprietary seedling, ‘FE0070-2’, a dark lavender decorative.

TABLE 1 Characteristics of the sport parent, compared to ‘CIFZ0124’: ‘CIFZ0124’ ‘FE0070-2’ Natural response: 2-3 days later 2-3 days earlier Blackcloth   2 days later   2 days earlier response: Flower color: Darker Lighter

As the new variety is the result of mutation breeding, there is not a male parent.

The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘CIFZ0124’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in May 2023 in Alva, Florida.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in May 2023 and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘CIFZ0124’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.

‘CIFZ0124’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity and day length.

A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not yet been applied for. ‘CIFZ0124’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘CIFZ0124’ directly from the inventor.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Chrysanthemum as a new and distinct variety.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘CIFZ0124’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.

The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 a close view of flower of the new variety and in FIG. 2 a flowering plant from an outdoor trial.

The aforementioned photographs: FIG. 1, as well as FIG. 2 were taken on Oct. 22, 2025 both showing a plant from the same outdoor trial (natural day length with night interruption during rooting phase) in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.

These plants were about 19 weeks of age. One cutting, rooted under night interruption per pot had been planted in a 19 cm pot, not pinched in week 23. Plants started flowering early October 2025.

The measurements were taken in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands in October 2025 on plants from the same outdoor trial.
