  • Patent number: 4199123
Abstract: The tripod (10) comprises an equipment support (12), three legs (14, 16) pivotally secured to the support, a center post (22) extending from the support and between the legs, and three stabilizer links (28) secured respectively between the legs and the center post. Gross adjustment is first made for each leg by adjusting the position of the end of its stabilizer link with respect to the leg. Thereafter, fine adjustments are made by rotating a turnbuckle (44) in the stabilizer link which lengthens or shortens the link to change the geometry of the triangle formed by the leg, the center post, and the stabilizer link. A slider bearing (54) is attached between each of the legs and its respective foot pad (56). Since the foot pads have previously been firmly set into the ground, when the geometry change occurs, the slider bearing permits relative sliding between the leg and the foot pad without causing physical movement of the foot pad.

Abstract: A portable add-on actuator module for use with a wireline cutting surface safety valve to provide supplemental energy for closing and simultaneously cutting a wireline extending through the surface safety valve in the event of an emergency. The unit includes a spring loaded locking collet assembly arranged to engage a locking recess within the stem of a surface safety valve so that the spring force may be added to normal valve closing forces such as line pressure and valve stem springs to supplement such forces for insuring the cutting by the surface valve member of a wireline extending through the member. The actuator module has a body which rests on the safety valve body without the use of any connecting structure. The module also includes structure for hydraulically compressing the spring for connecting the module on a safety valve and for hydraulically shifting the latching collet assembly to a disengaging condition for releasing the module from a safety valve.

  • Patent number: 4199132
Abstract: A valve having a plunger with opposite end sections of equal diameter, a control section of lesser diameter and a valve member. One end section extends from the inlet chamber through a seal to the exterior of the valve, and the other end section extends from the outlet chamber through a seal to the exterior of the valve. The inlet and outlet chambers are connected by a central bore having a diameter equal to that of the plunger end sections. The central section of the plunger extends through the central bore. The valve member seats against one end of the central bore to close the valve. Because of the equal diameters of the axial bores of the end sections and the central bore, the force exerted on the plunger by fluid pressure in the valve are balanced regardless of the plunger position, i.e., open, closed, or at any intermediate position.

Abstract: An exercising apparatus is similar in its mode of action to a trampoline, and uses a flexible semi-rigid and elongated sheet which may be made of plastic or metal. A frictional pad is provided to avoid slipping as the user bounces on the apparatus. The flexible sheet may be supported at both ends either by a structure which is secured to both ends of the elongated flexible sheet, or by supports upon which it rests. In order to accommodate both heavy and light persons, and persons who want more vigorous bouncing action than those who desire less bounce, the apparatus is provided with various arrangements for increasing or decreasing the deflection versus force characteristic. In one species of the invention the underside of the elongated flexible sheet is provided with a number of grooves for selectively engaging the underlying support either closer or farther away from the end of the sheet.
