  • Patent number: 4198992
Abstract: A smoker's appliance capable of producing aircooled smoke in a sanitary and ashless manner for the pleasure of the user. The appliance is generally shaped like a gun having a cylindrical body with a threaded head at one end. A tube extends through an aperture formed in a cap which is threadedly engageable with the head. With the cap tightened onto the body, the tube permits communication between the chamber and the surrounding air. A flexible bulb is attached to the body at a location near an end opposite the head. By the use of appropriate check valves, the bulb, when squeezed, forces air into the chamber within the body without permitting its escape. When a lighted cigarette is inserted into a free end of the tube within the chamber, operation of the bulb causes a unitary direction of air flow through the appliance which assures long life for the cigarette. Cigarette smoke thus passes through the cigarette itself and exits from the tube, being preferably directed into the mouth of the user.

  • Patent number: 4199003
Abstract: Apparatus for continuously measuring and correcting for fuel density in an ircraft engine fuel metering system. Fuel, sampled at the inlet to the engine metering valve, is fed through a flow regulator to a vortex spin chamber in which the fuel is tangentially injected. A magnetic ball carried by the fuel in a race integral with the vortex chamber generates an electrical pulse in an electromagnetic coil at a frequency proportional to the tangential velocity of the fuel. The pulse frequency is compared to a reference frequency and the error signal modulates the regulator to maintain the tangential velocity constant. The radial static differential pressure of the chamber is directly proportional to the fuel density. This signal provides a compensating signal to the fuel metering valve for correcting the mass flow rate of the fuel based on a known true volumetric flow rate.

  • Patent number: 4199005
Abstract: A load responsive flow control valve for use in a system controlling a plurality of loads. The system is powered by a single fixed displacement pump equipped with a load responsive bypass valve or by a variable displacement pump equipped with a load responsive control, which during simultaneous control of multiple loads automatically maintains the pump discharge pressure at a level higher than the pressure required by the largest load being controlled. To transmit to the pump control signal of the highest system load, without creating a back flow, load sensing passages of individual valve spools contain check valves. Upstream of the check valves load sensing passages of individual spools are vented to reservoir with valve spools in neutral position, to prevent accumulation of leakage pressure affecting the pump control and to permit the use of priority type control with selected valve spools.

  • Patent number: 4199028
Abstract: Geopressurized gas (methane) containing aquifers are produced into relatively low pressure reservoirs such as depleted or partially depleted oil and gas reservoirs. Primary production of the methane in the water is effected by exsolvation upon entering the low pressure reservoir and movement through the reservoir to production walls. Enhanced recovery of hydrocarbons remaining in depleted or partially depleted reservoirs results from one or more of (1) the sweeping action of the methane moving through the reservoir, (2) pressure maintenance and water drive associated with injection of the naturally pressured water, and (3) reservoir heating caused by the higher temperature of the injected geopressured water.

  • Patent number: 4199032
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring and controlling a force such as torque, pull or weight. One example is an apparatus for making up two members having mating threaded connections, such as pipe joints, head bolts and all types of threaded fasteners for insuring that a specified torque has been applied. A comparator compares the measured torque with a desired torque value and disengages the making up of the joint when the measured torque exceeds the selected torque. A testing circuit is provided for applying a test value for testing the operation of the apparatus in the absence of actual measured torque. An adjustment circuit adjusts the output to conform with a known test value. An adjustment is provided to compensate for the length of the torque arm at which the torque measurement is made.

  • Patent number: 4199034
Abstract: A method of perforating the sub-surface formation located in the area of an oil or gas well bore hole comprising directing a high powered coherent light beam axially along the bore hole to a predetermined depth therein from a surface location, deflecting the beam at said depth along a deflected beam axis, and successively focusing the beam at said depth to concentrate the beam at each of a plurality of spaced focal points along the deflected beam axis. The method (1) provides a significant increase in the distance (length) to which the calculated oil or gas bearing formations can be perforated (from a present nominal 18 inches to 200 feet or more), thus providing the opportunity for increased yield; and (2) provides an accurate determination of the exact near horizontal plane orientation of such perforations so that each can be aimed in the direction of the most promising formation pay zone.
