  • Patent number: 4240173
Abstract: A pool vacuum comprises an elongated pipe section having a flattened debris pickup end and a discharge end for discharging debris into a bag which is removably attached to the pipe section. Intermediate the ends of the elongated pipe section is a larger pipe section which is spaced from and sealed to the elongated pipe section to form a fluid discharge chamber surrounding the elongated pipe section. Apertures are formed between the chamber and the discharge end of the elongated pipe section to direct fluid applied under pressure to the chamber rearwardly through the elongated pipe section. • Patent number: 4240180
Abstract: In this pneumatic feeding system fibers are conveyed by air to surge sections formed in the upper ends of vertical branch ducts. Two sets of feed rolls are mounted in the midsection of each duct beneath the lower end of its surge section to feed fibers downwardly onto a kicker roll, which opens the fibers and directs them downwardly through a tapered duct section and onto a rotating screen condenser which is mounted in the lower end of each vertical duct. The fibers are withdrawn in a uniform layer from each screen by a doffer roll, and are fed to the feed assembly of a web forming machine. In one embodiment the density of the fibers in the surge section of a duct is controlled by selectively admitting atmospheric air to the duct adjacent its midsection, while in another embodiment this control is effected by adjusting the rate of flow of air in a closed air flow system.

  • Patent number: 4240183
Abstract: A fastener device is disclosed, which comprises an inserting part, a socket having an insertion aperture and an intermediate filament connecting the inserting part and the socket. The inserting part, which can be inserted into the socket from either of two insertion directions of the aperture, has at least one tongue, which has a suitable elasticity and can expand in radial directions relative to the axis of the inserting part under its condition free of any force application. The aperture of the socket has a face to engage and stop the socket, which is vertically provided relative to the axis of the aperture. In inserting the inserting part into the socket, the tongue undergoes contraction to facilitate its passage through the aperture, and when it has been completely passed through the aperture, the tongue restores its original condition and radially expands to abut against the engaging face of the aperture, preventing the inserting portion from being pulled out of the socket.

  • Patent number: 4240186
Abstract: This invention is directed to a frenum lock, also known as a natural expression former, for use by morticians. It relates to an improvement on two of my patents. I have a patent entitled "NATURAL EXPRESSION FORMER", U.S. Pat. No. 3,103,052, issuing date of Sept. 10, 1963 and a patent entitled "NATURAL EXPRESSION FORMER WITH BITE INDENTATION", U.S. Pat. No. 3,195,215, issuing date of July 20, 1965. The improvement of this invention is the positioning of the dividing lines in the central portion of the natural expression former or the frenum lock. The dividing lines in the central portion of the frenum lock permit wider spreading of the expression forming wing-like portions on insertion of the expression former into the mouth of the corpse or cadaver and permit greater adaptation of the expression former to the dental arch of the corpse or the cadaver.

  • Patent number: 4240188
Abstract: A process and a device for interlacing multifilament yarns includes forwang the yarn through an interlacing zone, to which an interlacing air jet is also conveyed through a nozzle, in a non-rectilinear trajectory which is essentially planar and symmetrical with respect to the jet axis, and under tension. The resultant of the tension forces have a line of application which ideally coincides with the jet axis and a direction opposite to that of the jet. The jet is so directed as to contact the yarn in a zone about the point of application of the resultant force. The nozzle includes an orifice located at the vertex of a convex surface directed towards the yarn trajectory, and means for guiding the yarn near the nozzle and for limiting the freedom of motion of the yarn.

  • Patent number: 4240190
Abstract: A specialty hand tool primarily for removing upholstery trim buttons from their spring steel retainers in an efficient and effective manner without destroying the ability of the retainers to be reused immediately. The tool has two elongated members pivotally mounted to each other in a general plier configuration. One of the opposing jaw members of the tool has a substantially flat surface with a dimple therein for engaging the apex of the trim button stud. The second jaw member is bifurcated into two, free-standing portions which straddle the shaft of the trim button stud. The second jaw members has first and second generally U-shaped edges of different sizes which are spaced from each other with the larger of the two edges being positioned closer to the first jaw member. An inclined surface extends between the two U-shaped edges giving the second jaw member an overall appearance of a horseshoe-shaped or open-ended sport's arena when viewed head on.

  • Patent number: 4240194
Abstract: An automatic tooling machine includes a spindle carrier having a spindle for supporting a machining tool. The spindle carrier includes a tool drum mounting device for rotatably supporting a tool drum having plural machining tools thereon. A device is provided for transferring a selected machining tool between the tool drum supported on the tool drum mounting device and the spindle. A drum storage rack is fixedly positioned separate from the spindle carrier and extends in a longitudinal direction. The rack includes a plurality of drum support members for storing a plurality of tool drums. A carriage track is integral with the spindle carrier. A device is provided for selectively moving the spindle carrier to a position such that the carriage track is positioned adjacent and aligned with a selected of the drum support members. A carriage is provided for moving the tool drum of the selected drum support member along the carriage track between the tool drum mounting device and the selected drum support member.

  • Patent number: 4240196
Abstract: In a two-level overlapping polysilicon device even the slightest amount of undercutting of an oxide layer (12) which underlies a first polysilicon layer (14) can lead to unacceptably low breakdown voltages in the device. In accordance with the invention, the first polysilicon and oxide layers of an LSI MOS wafer are defined as usual. But then the standard fabrication process is modified to etch the first polysilicon layer back beyond the edge of the oxide undercut. Subsequently, the structure is reoxidized and a second polysilicon layer (22) deposited and patterned. The modified process is characterized by the absence of any oxide thinning between the first and second polysilicon layers or between the second polysilicon layer and the substrate (10) of the device. As a result, voltage breakdown problems in the individual chips of the wafer are thereby greatly reduced and the yield of the wafer significantly increased.

  • Patent number: 4240197
Abstract: A sealed primary cell includes a metal receptacle (1), a metal cover (2) which closes the receptacle and a hard and resilient thermoplastic sealing ring (3) which may optionally be coated with a softer material (not shown). The sealing ring (3) is inserted between the cover (2) and the internal wall of the receptacle (1) and is radially compressed between the cover (2) and the receptacle (1). The invention is characterized in that the radial compression of the sealing ring (3) is achieved by radially outward deformation of the outer edge of the cover, e.g. by an auricular portion of a tool (7) enlarging a U-shaped peripheral rim of the cover. FIG. 2 shows the cell held in a die (9) after the sealing ring (3) has been radially compressed by the tool (7) but before the cell is finished by the usual inward crimping of the upper rim of the receptacle (1).
