  • Patent number: 4305187
Abstract: In method and apparatus for making continuous strips for lead acid batteries, a strip of lead is advanced through a plurality of successive stations such that zigzag slits are formed on the strip, either in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis or inclined to the longitudinal axis of the strip, between belt-shaped unslitted edge portions and a central unslitted portion. The strip is then stretched by application of a continuous force substantially simultaneously to the entire width of the slit portion of the strip by successively larger vertical components normal to the plane of the strip between both unslitted edge portions and the central unslitted portion. Simultaneously therewith, frictional resistance is applied to the zigzag slits so that the strip forms a substantially V-shaped cross-section vertical to the advancing direction of the strip to form the grid cells. The V-shaped strip is then leveled and flattened.

  • Patent number: 4305208
Abstract: A new and improved sighting device and range-finder and sighting device combination wherein the elemental sighting devices incorporate a sighting screw disposed within and through first and second separate mounting members having corresponding aligned apertures, one of the sighting members incorporating interiorly threaded means. The sighting devices themselves are constructed and arranged for gripping or clamping onto an elongate member and are selectively adjustable thereon. In a preferred form of the invention, irregular mating surfaces of such elongate member and the respective sighting devices used, prevent inadvertent slippage of such devices on the elongate member. The split-construction of the respective bodies sighting members enable users to install easily certain range indication markings as necessary, this obviating prior manufacturing expense. Fore and aft sighting-device mounting is provided.

  • Patent number: 4305210
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for processing a powdered or particulate product forming a vibrating fluidized bed supported by a thin, perforated bed plate which is vibrated while gas is blown upwardly through the perforations of the plate. The bed plate which is made from thin sheet metal is provided with parallel corrugations extending transversely to the direction in which the fluidized product is moved along the plate. The corrugations impart a desired stiffness to the plate and in order to promote removal of residual product from the plate when supply of product to the plate has been terminated, the openings in the plate may be formed so as to direct gas flows supplied therethrough in the same general direction transverse to said corrugations towards an outlet of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4305213
Abstract: This invention involves new and unique apparatus suitable for safely and quickly removing a row of bare root nursery trees. More particularly, this invention teaches a lightweight and raised frame which supports a plow or blade, a power source, a seat for the operator and the controls. Weighted wheels are attached to the lightweight frame by four support members such that the wheels straddle a row of trees to be removed as the frame moves over the top of the row of trees. A U-shaped blade or plow is forced into the earth such that the blade cuts under and around the trees as the apparatus moves along a row of trees and the blade moves under the row of trees. Thus, the trees can be easily removed and the dirt shaken therefrom after the apparatus has moved past. According to one embodiment, a power source such as a small gasoline engine drives a hydraulic pump which is then used to hydraulically actuate the blade and to provide hydraulic power to four small hydraulic motors for independently driving the wheels.

  • Patent number: 4305214
Abstract: A ladder pump for use with a hydraulic dredge to increase the main pump efficiency comprises a casing and a vaned impeller located in the casing and mounted for rotation about a normally horizontal axis transverse to the ladder. The casing has an inlet and an outlet defining respective axes lying in a common plane perpendicular to the impeller axis and defining a deflection angle therebetween, with approximately 60.degree. being typical. The diameter of the impeller and the inner dimensions of the casing together define a substantial clearance over at least that portion of an impeller vane's travel between the inlet and the outlet, so that large solid objects entering the pump may pass under the impeller and out the pump outlet. The impeller may have substantially rigid vanes, or the vanes may be flexible. The ladder pump fits in-line with respect to the suction pipe, and has an axial extension little wider than the pipe itself.
