  • Patent number: 4305255
Abstract: The invention relates to a fuel system for a gas turbine engine wherein an annular combustion chamber 10 has an annular series of pairs of first and second nozzles 15,16. In one mode of operation fuel is supplied only to the first nozzles 15. In another mode, fuel is supplied also to the second nozzles. The change has to be made during operation of the engine. • Patent number: 4305256
Abstract: Disclosed is a cryogenic gel, and a process for making such a gel from a liquid cryogen having at least a methane component, which normally comprises a majority of the cryogenic liquid, by flash vaporizing the cryogen so that a relatively small portion of the weight of the cryogen becomes vaporized while a remainder forms a mist of small cryogen droplets suspended in the vapor. After flash vaporization, a gelling agent is injected into the cryogen vapor-mist mixture. The gelling agent is present so that it forms between about 0.1% to about 25% (by weight) of the resulting gel and is selected so that it is a solid at the temperature of the liquid cryogen and a liquid or a gas at ambient temperature. Water and methyl alcohol are preferred gelling agents. After the injection of the gelling agent the mixture is segregated into a gaseous phase and a condensed phase or gel comprising the liquid cryogen droplets and the injected gelling agent.

  • Patent number: 4305259
Abstract: A frost sensor circuit which employs a thermistor (10, 20) to sense the amount of frost present on the cooling coils of a refrigerator, air conditioner, or the like, and to inhibit defrosting that would otherwise occur at regular intervals, in those cases where the frost present is not enough to justify a defrost function thereby to limit defrost heating to those cycles requiring it, thus saving electrical energy. This is done by mounting the thermistor at or on the coils to collect the same amount of frost as the coils and to have the defrost cycle control (11) energize the same for a timed interval, melting the frost thereon and thereby determining the amount of frost build-up.

Abstract: The invention relates to a compact heating assembly of the heat pump type, comprising a heat pump circuit having a compressor, an evaporator and a condenser, wherein the evaporator and condenser parts, together with means for heat exchanging heat carrying fluids against the same, are arranged in a housing. The evaporator and its heat exchanger means and the condenser and its heat exchanger means substantially form an essentially vertical helical conduit system which encloses an inner space, wherein the compressor, possible circulation pumps, etc. are arranged. The device can be burrowed in the ground, and the inner space is accessible via an inspection cover arranged at the top.

Abstract: The mass flow rate of helium from a container is controlled by two disks having highly polished mating surfaces and mounted for rotation relative to one another. Each of the disks has at least one axial through passage, at least one of the disks having a through passage which is eccentric to the axis of rotation of the disk. Use of a plurality of through passages in one of the disks, one or more capillary grooves emanating from one of the through passages in one disk and terminating in the circular path described by the through passage in the other disk for controlling the flow rate is illustrated. For example a step motor in combination with a wobble plate rotates one disk in very exact steps relative to the other.

Abstract: An item of jewelry is disclosed which includes an elongated mounting base in the form of a straight, curved or angled bar, or the like, of polygonal cross-sectional configuration having one or a plurality of gems longitudinally slidably mounted thereon with each gem including a gem mount having a hollow passageway interfitting with the bar to provide sliding movement. The passageway in the gem mount is in the form of a split sleeve constructed of ductile metal to enable the sleeve to be placed onto the mounting bar and the opposed portions of the sleeve squeezed together by a suitable tool in order to close the split sleeve into close encircling relation to the bar thereby securely mounting the gem mount on the bar to enable the number of gems and gem mounts on the bar to be varied by adding on additional gems and gem mounts as desired by the purchaser or owner of the item of jewelry.

Abstract: A constant velocity universal joint wherein its outer race has a larger radius of curvature than its inner race at the transverse sectional surface of the ball rolling groove at the point of contact between the ball and the ball rolling groove. Concave and convex surface portions of a ball rolling groove have a characteristic such that when the inner and outer races have the same radius of curvature at the transverse sectional surface of the ball rolling groove, the contact stress of the ball rolling groove of the outer race becomes lower than that of the inner race. By varying the radius of curvature on the transverse sectional surface of the ball rolling groove of the outer race from that of the inner race to render the contact stresses of the two grooves equal to each other, it is possible to facilitate working of the grooves and yet to achieve the same degree of precision finishes as has hitherto been achieved.
