  • Patent number: 4315446
Abstract: A stud tensioner device which connects to a engaging member integral with or connected to a stud to be placed in tension to permit a nut on the stud to be tightened. The stud is usually in a high pressure application such as a pipe line or various types of pressure vessel. The device for connecting to the engaging member is a cam actuating and clamping assembly having multilayers and partaking of translatory motion wherein the motion of one component translates into a different motion in another component. The device includes an actuating sleeve helically slotted to receive cam pins which pass through an axially slotted stationary ring to be received in one of two inner camming rings which are axially shifted by the pins responsive to rotation of the sleeve. Rotation of the actuating sleeve will cause the camming rings to move into and out of engagement with cam followers formed on or attached to a four segment clamp which is thus moved into and out of locking engagement with the engaging member.

  • Patent number: 4315449
Abstract: A flying cutoff comprising a severing mechanism which is capable of displacement with the stock to be severed under the control of a linear motive power source such as fluid accelerator. A ramp-like cam member is disposed above the mechanism and, in combination with a follower roller which is connected to the upper shoe of the mechanism, drives the severing blade through the stock as the mechanism carriage travels along with the stock. At the fully extended position, means are provided to lift the cam member so as to raise the blade out of contact with the stock. CAm surfaces for linear and non-linear power transfer relationships are disclosed. The effective angle of the cam member may be adjusted to vary the power factor. A mechanism is disclosed which allows a cut to be made without linear movement of the die carriage or stock.

  • Patent number: 4315450
Abstract: This invention teaches apparatus having track-like guide means adapted to be secured onto the face of a conveyor belt crosswise of the belt in the general area of a mechanical joint to be made in the belt. A carriage rides along the guide means, and supports first and second cutters used to cut a groove in the belt and to end cut the belt. Power means such as a winch is used to move the carriage along the guide means. The practiced method includes taking sequential passes of the cutter carriage to make these cuts, and taking like steps at the opposite ends of the belt span. The mechanical fastener can be received then in the matched recesses and secured to the underlying portions of the belt ends to join them together while having the fastener generally flush with the rubber overlay. The apparatus is entirely portable and particularly adapted for in-the-field repair and/or modification of existing conveyor belts.

The assembly comprises a rigid, tubular outer shell and an elongate, tubular, inflation member having a novel mouth-forming diaphragm at one end thereof for engaging the teat of a cow to retain the teat cup assembly from falling off the teat at the end point of milking. A sleeve member is adapted to secure the upper end of the inflation in expanded condition to the upper end of the shell. The sleeve member is also adapted to receive the mouth-forming diaphragm. The mouth-forming diaphragm has a central opening for receiving the teat of a cow, with the central opening having a circumference smaller than the cross-sectional circumference of the inflation. A protective cap member fits over the mouth-forming diaphragm and sleeve member.

Abstract: In a breeder house for chickens, nests are aligned on both sides of a center aisle with their entrance openings facing slatted platforms on the sides of the house. The nests are supported by brackets on roof-support stanchions and are positioned so that chickens can move underneath the nests from the platforms to the floor of the aisle. A hoist system is provided for simultaneously raising the nests to facilitate cleaning. Each of the brackets has a first part secured to a nest and a second part removably secured to a stanchion. The first and second parts can be readily separated by the removal of two bolts on each bracket to permit the nests to be raised with one bracket part remaining attached to the nest and the other part remaining attached to the stanchion. The part attached to the stanchion is held by the engagement of L-shaped slots with projections on the stanchion and can be removed readily.

  • Patent number: 4315484
Abstract: An animal feeder is disclosed which comprises a feed trough and a hopper mounted above the trough for automatically feeding stored food into the feed trough as it is consumed by animals feeding therein. Flow of food from the hopper into the feed trough is controlled by an agitator or butt plate located within the trough and spaced a predetermined distance from the bottom of the trough. A wire grid extends from the butt plate upwardly into the hopper such that agitation or movement of the butt plate by animals feeding within the trough causes corresponding movement of the wire grid. To control the flow of food from the hopper into the trough, the butt plate is adjustable relative to the trough so as to vary the size of the opening through which the food must flow in order to become accessible to animals feeding in the trough. This adjustment is effected by a pivoted lever which is controlled from a handle located in the open top of the hopper.

Abstract: The vapor generator employs a convection heating surface in the gas flue upstream of the superheater heating surface in the exhaust gas flow. The burners for the different fuels are disposed in a common horizontal plane in the combustion chamber. In one embodiment, one water separator is disposed between the evaporator and convection heating surfaces while a second water separator is disposed between the convection and superheater heating surfaces. In another embodiment, one separator only is used with a change-over circuit means to connect the separator either between the evaporator and convection heating surfaces or between the convection and superheater heating surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4315486
Abstract: Floatable tube sheets are provided for use in a reformer furnace or the like wherein a plurality of vertically oriented catalyst tubes are disposed in the fire box with the upper tube ends extending through the fire box roof. The tube sheets are located proximate apertures or channels in the roof through which the upper tube ends protrude and provide a seal to substantially minimize air leakage through the roof. At the same time, the tube sheet plates permit vertical expansion and contraction of the tubes. The tube sheet plates themselves are moveably mounted to the roof so that they can float vertically upwardly and downwardly through a limited distance so as to compensate for tube movement in those instances in which the tubes become bent or bowed during operation. At least a pair of contiguous tube sheet plates surround each tube to facilitate easy tube sheet removal without resulting in attendant removal of any neighboring tubes or, in some instances, furnace shutoff.
