Abstract: In the construction of a damper assembly of pianos, the conventionally used long-sized damper wire is replaced by a pair of separate short-sized lever components operationally related to each other via an additional intermediate damper lever for stabilized action of the assembly even without provision of the conventionally used guide rail. A shorter length damper wire joins the upper lever component to the damper head.
Abstract: The new N-[3-(3-hydroxyaryl)-2-hydroxypropyl]-imides may be prepared by reacting 3-(3-hydroxyaryl)-propenoxides with cyclic imides. These hydroxy compounds as well as their esters with carboxylic acids are highly effective in the stabilization of polymers, preferably of polyolefins, against thermal-oxydative attack. The compounds themselves exhibit a good stability against discoloration by radiation or gas fading.
Abstract: A light projecting apparatus consists of a concave, substantially prolate-spheroidal reflector having a major axis coincident with the optical axis of the apparatus and a metal halide high intensity discharge source positioned at a first focal point of the reflector and inclined with respect to the optical axis of the apparatus at an angle of approximately 30.degree.. .Iadd.
Abstract: A filigreed effect name plate is formed on a belt or other leather product. The belt comprises an outer layer attached to one or more other layers. The name plate area is removed from the outer layer prior to attachment to the other layer or layers leaving an opening formed through the outer layer for receiving precut letters, symbols, or other indicia. The precut indicia are inserted in the opening and their back sides bonded to the layer exposed through the opening. In addition, the top and bottom edges of the indicia are bonded to the top and bottom edges of the opening respectively.
Abstract: Mitral heart valve comprising a stent including a circular base and a pair of upstanding diametrically opposed struts, separating a pair of diametrically opposed arcuately shapes depressed reliefs, each such relief being bounded by a smooth curve interconnecting the struts to the circular base. A flexible, durable, biocompatible covering is secured to the stent and provides two equal opposed preset flappably movable valve cusps secured along the smooth curve defining the perimeter of the reliefs. The valve cusps each are preformed and preset so that the perimeter of the biocompatible covering along the free edge of each of the cusps between the tips of each associated strut is so related to the circumference of the circular base that, when the valve is in its forced open position, the cross-sectional area of the exit is substantially equal to the cross-sectional area of the inside of the circular base.
