  • Patent number: 4340990
Abstract: The present invention proposes a process for manufacturing an object intended to be held in the hand and which comprises a body made from a plastic material reinforced inside by means of a frame and comprising at least one grasping zone having a hardness less than that of its other parts. This process consists in placing the frame in a mould comprising an injection aperture in the part of its cavity corresponding to the grasping zone of the object, closing the mould, injecting into the cavity a definite amount of a compact plastic material, this amount being insufficient to completely fill the mould, then injecting an amount of expanded plastic material to completely fill the cavity, the expanded plastic material, which while penetrating inside the volume of the non-solidified compact material, forces this latter to come into contact with the whole internal surface of the cavity of the mould and to cover the frame, and removing the object from the mould after cooling of the two plastic materials.

  • Patent number: 4341001
Abstract: A unitary hub and method of fabricating such a hub for use in conjunction with flywheels for inertial energy storage apparatus, the hub having a double convex domed configuration cut into double spider leg shape upon which a flywheel rim, such as one comprising fiber composite material, may be wound directly. The hub further comprises two cylindrical bars affixed to the center of the outer convex surfaces of the oppositely facing domes to form axles of the hub, and two similar bars which are affixed to the center of the inner concave oppositely facing surfaces of the hub domes to form height limiting devices. Vertical height increasing stress is applied to the hub, resulting in a decrease in the hub diameter. A fiber composite material rim may be wound upon the circumferential perimeter of the hub. This stationary height increased configuration of the hub permits the unitary structure to increase in diameter at high rotational velocities when subjected to severe centrifugal forces.

  • Patent number: 4341009
Abstract: A buried electrical contact is made to a substrate of monocrystalline silicon through a relatively thin layer of silicon dioxide without causing damage to the relatively thin layer of silicon dioxide. This is accomplished through depositing a thin layer of polycrystalline silicon over the relatively thin layer of silicon dioxide prior to forming the opening in the relatively thin layer of silicon dioxide for the electrical contact to the substrate. After the thin layer of polycrystalline silicon is deposited, an opening is formed therein so that the thin layer of polycrystalline silicon functions as a mask to etch a corresponding opening in the relatively thin layer of silicon dioxide. Then, a layer of polycrystalline silicon is deposited over the exposed surface of the substrate and the thin layer of polycrystalline silicon to form the electrical contact through the opening in the relatively thin layer of silicon dioxide to the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4341024
Abstract: A tube dryer is illustrated wherein a plurality of spaced tubes extend outwardly from a plenum to direct heated air against material passing thereby on a conveyor. The tubes are connected by inverted substantially channel-shaped members transversely disposed across the material being heat treated. The channel-shaped members have a web portion in a plane parallel to the conveyor with the tubes extending through the web member. The web member affords support for the tubes insuring their proper positioning to direct air for accurate impingement upon the material such as fabric or a layer of particulate material passing thereby and prevents snagging of the conveyor or the material carried thereby against the ends of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4341025
Abstract: A power digging means for moving one of several digging spoons of a ring stand type tree digging machine into and out of the ground includes a pair of double acting hydraulic linear motors each connected at their end portions to a ring supported stanchion, a rack integral with the back of the spoon, a rack on the stanchion, a pinion support assembly connected to lower ends of each of the hydraulic motors, and a pinion meshed with the racks and rotatably mounted in the pinion support assembly. The pinion support assembly has arms extending past and behind the stanchion rack. A roller is rotatably mounted between the assembly arms and behind the rack to hold the stanchion rack in proper meshing relation to the pinion. The positioning of the stanchion rack and the spoon rack with respect to each other is adjustable to insure proper driving engagement of the pinion and racks and to insure a proper penetration path of the spoon into and out of the ground.

  • Patent number: 4341027
Abstract: At least one trailing scraper member freely swingable within a vertical plane is provided, which has a scraper blade and a scraper base disposed at an acute angle relative to the blade. The angle of adjustment of the scraper member relative to the snow surface over which the device travels is adjustable, so that the scraper member either removes snow from the snow surface or slides over same. Associated with the scraper member is a scooping device limited by side walls and by a shield which can be lifted or lowered, in order to collect the snow provided by the scraping member and to transport same to another location and discharge same on lifting of the shield.

  • Patent number: 4341028
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a visible information management system which includes a notebook having disposed therein a plurality of pivotal passive pressure clips. Each of the pressure clips are adapted to hold therein an index card having information printed thereon. Each of the pressure clips may also be labeled in order that the cards held therein may be identified. The index cards are held in the pressure clips by virtue of an overlapping flap which forms a clip for holding under pressure an index card inserted therein. One side of the index card easily slips into the clip portion of the pivotal passive pressure clip. Since there are a plurality of pressure clips disposed in the notebook, a plurality of index cards may be slipped into the respective pressure clips within the notebook.

  • Patent number: 4341029
Abstract: A mounting for an offset sign comprises a channel shaped saddle (10), the sides (16) of which are adapted (18) to seat against a supporting post. Attachment elements (12) are located at opposite ends of the saddle and are adapted (32) to take a strap for passing around the post. They are joined by a connecting plate (22) which is urged towards the base (14) of the saddle when the strap is tightened. A mounting plate (28) projects from the connecting plate (22) and has a flange (30) located between the connecting plate and the base (14) of thesaddle. The mounting plate (28) is apertured (36) for attachment to the top of an elongate T-shaped member the leg of which is secured to an edge portion of the sign plate.

  • Patent number: 4341031
Abstract: An industrial gun, of the type having a transverse sliding breechblock, has a firing mechanism which automatically cocks and then releases a hammer as the breechblock closes. A sear is pivoted in the yoke or receiver of the gun in a position to engage and cock a hammer carried by the breechblock as the breechblock is moved from an open to a closed position. A cam surface on the sear bears against a cooperating cam surface on the hammer to release the hammer from the sear as the breechblock reaches the fully-closed position, in which a firing pin carried by the breechblock attains correct alignment with a shell in the gun chamber. A set screw provides an adjustable cam surface on the hammer to allow the correlation of the timing of the hammer release with the breechblock movement to be readjusted precisely as the parts wear with use.
