  • Patent number: 4435950
Abstract: A device for harvesting fruits or berries, particularly grapes, for in-line crops is of the type formed by a vehicle on which are rotatably mounted "hedgehog" drums with fingers or whips penetrating into the vegetation and dislodging the fruits. The drums are subdivided into superimposed coaxial elements each comprising a hub fixed on a vertical drive shaft and forming a variable angle with this latter and sleeves mounted freely rotatable on these hubs and also sloping by the same angle, these hubs carrying fingers and a support for rotatably driven vibrating inertia blocks. This device causes vibration of said fingers, which is adjustable by adjusting the rotational speed of the shaft, by varying the angle and the clearance of the inertia blocks, which vibration is the resultant of the vertical component and a horizontal component adjustable independently of each other.

  • Patent number: 4435952
Abstract: A spinning assembly for a wrapped yarn spinning machine in which a staple sliver is guided by a delivery device into a hollow spindle which carries a co-rotating binding thread; the thread is wound around the staple sliver by the rotation of the hollow spindle. A stationary balloon limiter is provided in the vicinity of the binding thread and a screen is mounted in front of the delivery device, which screen comprises a passage for the staple sliver. This screen is constructed as a screen plate, mounted at an axial distance from the balloon limiter. This construction of the present invention has the advantage that an air stream is generated within the balloon limiter, which flows upward from below and leaves radially through the gap between the upper end of the uncovered balloon limiter and the screen plate. This air stream is directed counter to both the sliver and the binding thread entering the hollow spindle, so that no fiber fly can penetrate the interior of the hollow spindle.

  • Patent number: 4435959
Abstract: A hot-gas piston engine (4) has, as a compression chamber, a heat exchanger (6) which comprises a number of small pipes (7) or differently designed capillaries which protrude into the burner chamber (5) of a burner (1). In the compression phase, air in the small pipes (7), which serve as the compression chamber, is compressed and additionally heated by the burner flame, whereby the pressure increases, and the piston is driven to execute a downward movement. The scavenging then occurs in the bottom dead center region. The hot outgoing air from the engine enters burner supply line (10) and then the burner, whereby the efficiency of the plant is increased even further. The mechanical energy received at the driven shaft (11) may be used to produce electrical energy or to operate a heat pump. The upper ends of the small pipes protrude into the hot water whereby they are protected from overheating.

  • Patent number: 4435972
Abstract: A process for cold forming integral spindle-axle tubes includes placing a tubular blank within an open ended die having an extrusion die throat, and pushing the blank through the die throat with a punch. The punch is formed with a ram portion that applies pressure to the blank for moving it axially through the throat. The punch also has an extension closely fitted within the blank so that as the punch pushes the tube axially, the blank is extruded between the die throat and the extension to form a thin wall tube. After the blank is partially extruded, the punch is removed and a second blank is inserted. This second blank is then located between the punch ram portion and the trailing end of the first blank so that further movement of the punch causes the second blank to push the first blank through the die throat.

  • Patent number: 4435973
Abstract: A method of producing a plurality of identical ring-shaped metal parts from a single blank in the form of solid rod without forming any hole in the blank and without cross-sectionally cutting the blank. The outer periphery of the blank corresponds to the inner periphery of the metal parts to be produced. First the blank is longitudinally compressed such that an end portion of the blank undergoes upsetting and provides a laterally expanded portion having a side periphery corresponding to the outer periphery of the metal parts and a length corresonding to the thickness of the metal parts. Then the laterally expanded portion is subjected to shearing along a plane defining the outer periphery of the blank to part its peripheral region as one of the ring-shaped metal parts. The blank remains in the solid rod form, though somewhat shortened, and therefore can be used to produce additional metal parts by repeating the same procedure until it becomes very short.

  • Patent number: 4435989
Abstract: Plunger operated pipet operable to execute different lengths of plunger movement during successive fluid pickup and fluid discharge operations or strokes. A stop member is movable between first and second locations in the pipet body to halt plunger movement at two different positions. A drive spring for driving the stop member from one location to the other is energized by a manually operable arming element and is retained in one location against action of the drive spring during a first plunger stroke. A release mechanism responsive to plunger movement during the first stroke disables the retaining means allowing the drive spring to move the stop member to the second location at which position the plunger is halted during the succeeding discharge stroke. The arming element is actuated by and in response to positioning of a replaceable tip on the pipet body.

  • Patent number: 4435991
Abstract: A potentiometer drive for the displacement transducer of a reciprocating unit which uses a timing belt to drive the rotary potentiometer and where one belt pulley serves as a control disc to which the drive shaft of the rotary potentiometer is coupled in a direct rigid connection. The coupling connection is obtained by means of a coupling collet which clamps the end portion of the potentiometer drive shaft to a hollow hub of control disc and the latter to the inner races of two ball bearings. The potentiometer housing is blocked against rotation in a "floating" configuration, using a radial pin on the housing which engages a stationary retaining fork in such a way that only circumferential antirotation forces are transmittable to the potentiometer housing.
