  • Patent number: 4461095
Abstract: A method of continuous drying of a paper or other porous web by passing the web (3) by means of a drying felt or wire (4) between two moving, air-impermeable surface elements (1, 8) having good heat conducting properties, which elements enclose the web along its whole width. The surface element (1) contacting the web is heated and the surface element (8) contacting the wire is cooled for evaporating water present in the web and condensing the evaporated water into the felt or wire. The temperature of the liquid used for cooling the surface element to be cooled is maintained above 100.degree. C. and the pressure at least at such a level as to prevent the liquid from boiling. Thus, the drying of the web can be carried out at an elevated temperature and under an elevated pressure in a continuous process at production conditions for improving the web characteristics.Preferably the cooling liquid is maintained at different temperatures and/or under different pressures at separate steps of the cooling process.

  • Patent number: 4461129
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reducing the heat consumption in a building or the like. This is brought about by the fact that the air movement caused by free winds close to the external surfaces of the building or the like is reduced by means of air permeable screens which are applied close to the external surfaces of the building or the like. They may also be applied close to external surfaces of other adjacent buildings or the like. The screens are disposed substantially transversely to the dominant direction of the free winds along the last-mentioned surfaces. The invention also relates to means for carrying out the method, consisting of one or more air permeable wind screens which are fitted to the building or the like.

  • Patent number: 4461130
Abstract: A concrete bond beam is employed in building constructions using concrete slabs having hollow core channels therein serving as vertical walls. The bond beam includes at least one opening therein and a pair of downwardly extending flanges. The bond beam is mounted on top of each slab with the top edges of the slabs being received between the flanges of the bond beam so that the opening therein is aligned with a selected core channel in the slab. Reinforcement rods extend both horizontally within the confines of the bond beam and vertically through the cores in the wall slabs and the openings in the bond beam. Structural concrete columns are formed in the wall slab cores surrounding the vertical reinforcement rods. The building thus contains a matrix of structural reinforced concrete beams running both horizontally and vertically throughout the construction.

Abstract: A sub-structure for boat docks consisting of an elongated, ladder-like frame having a pair of side bars connected by a series of cross bars extending between and connected at their ends to the side bars, the side bars and cross bars being of such cross-sectional configuration, and the connections therebetween being of such a nature, that the frame may yield in a vertical direction with relatively great resilient flexibility, whereby to accomodate wave action in the water therebeneath, while at the same time being relatively highly resistant to deformation in its own plane for maintaining its horizontal form and shape. Generally, the side and cross bars are of such configuration as to strongly resist bending stresses, but to permit torsional yielding with relative ease, and the cross bars are connected to the side bars to permit a degree of universal pivotal movement therebetween.

Abstract: An elongated beam is constructed from a sheet metal panel and has upper and lower flange sections integrally connected by a web section. The web section has upper and lower inclined web portions which project in opposite directions from a vertical intermediate web portion and cooperate to provide the beam with a generally Z-shaped cross-sectional configuration to facilitate stacking of a plurality of beams in interfitting nested relation. The upper and lower flange sections are stiffened by members which may be longitudinally extending sheet metal strips or longitudinally spaced stiffening elements, and the upper and lower flange sections and adjacent portions of the web section are formed slightly different in size to permit interfitting of mating overlapping end portions of two longitudinally aligned beams after one beam is inverted relative to the other.
