Patent number: 4490898Abstract: A method of repairing a water-cooled electrode holder for use in electric furnaces, of the type comprising a base and a bowl secured to the base for encompassing and supporting a vertical cylindrical electrode. Such holders suffer deterioration in the region of the inner surface of the bowl which is opposite the base. According to the invention, the outer semi-cylindrical portion of the bowl is cut off on a substantially diametral plane and replaced by a new portion. The new portion is formed from a flat slab of copper. To make the water passageways in the new portion match those in the old, a pattern of the locations of the passageways in the old portion is made and transferred to one end of the slab. The slab is then drilled lengthwise at the locations transferred from the pattern, and the holes are filled with sand and plugged. The slab is then bent to U-shape to comprise a semi-cylindrical portion having two straight ends thereon.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1983Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Assignee: Wilson Welding Company, Inc.Inventors: James G. Patent number: 4490899Abstract: The two coupling member supporting bands are led between a guide block and two clamping members in a vertical position and having the coupling members located at the lower side. The coupling members are aligned with the path of cutting members by means of a countersupport having two gripping members and positioned relative to the cutting members by means of a scanning apparatus. The clamping members clamp the supporting bands as well as the coupling members which are to be removed. After the coupling members have been clamped by the clamping members, the cutting members sever the coupling members at their foot section and thereafter the cut coupling members are pulled off the supporting band by means of the countersupport and the clamping members. This allows an impeccable cutting of the coupling members and that all cut coupling members can be drawn off the supporting band.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1983Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Assignee: Hans HorlacherInventor: Gilbert Schelling

Patent number: 4490939Abstract: A toy automobile which simulates both the appearance and performance of a modern hard top convertible. The convertible is provided with a unitary top piece which normally covers the cockpit of the car and is formed by top and side walls both joined to a rear panel. The rear panel is linked by a pair of flexible racks to a mechanism operatively coupled to the front wheel axle and adapted to swing open the top piece to expose the cockpit. In operation, when the convertible body is grasped by the player and the front is pressed down and pushed forward on a running surface, the top piece is caused to swing open, the vehicle when released by the player then continuing to travel in the forward direction. And when this same action is carried out by the player in the reverse direction, the top piece is caused to resume its normal closed position.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1983Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Assignee: Buddy L CorporationInventors: Melvin R. Patent number: 4490944Abstract: A conditioner grinder having a workpiece carried by a car that reciprocates adjacent a grinding wheel. The grinding wheel is supported for movement in a direction both normal to the surface to be ground and transversely across the surface to be ground. Movement of the grinding wheel in both of these directions is through conventional hydraulic actuators. The hydraulic actuator indexing the grinding wheel transversely across the workpiece contains a pair of pressure sensors that measure the differential pressure across the piston of the actuator. The differential pressure signal is subtracted from a position error indicative of the difference between the actual position of the grinding wheel and the desired transverse position of the grinding wheel.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1983Date of Patent: January 1, 1985Assignee: Western Gear Machinery Co.Inventor: John P.
