  • Patent number: 4506491
Abstract: The disclosure illustrates and describes a sterilization apparatus and method for sterilizing the interiors of paperboard containers, wherein such apparatus and method are effective through the mandrel assembly on which the container bottom closures are formed and sealed. This is accomplished by forming longitudinal channels through each mandrel and connecting same to separate compartments formed within the hub, and providing means for communicating a suitable sterilant fog through respective compartments and channels at the station where each bottom-formed container is stripped from its respective mandrel. The usual fast stripping action tends to create a vacuum within the container which aids the dispersement of the fog onto the entire inside surface of the container, sterilizing it prior to the subsequent filling operation.

  • Patent number: 4506492
Abstract: A method and apparatus for volume filling of storage boxes with discrete articles such as lemons in which a transitory fill box is provided with three sides, an open side to receive articles into the box at a level approximately that of the bottom wall of the fill box, the bottom wall being openable to deposit articles in a storage box in a gentle manner. Presence of articles sensed at approximately the bottom of the open side of the fill box cause the fill box to be incrementably lowered into the storage box so that articles entering the fill box enter at a level with minimum fall to the bottom wall of the fill box or to a previously deposited layer of articles. As the fill box is lowered a curtain wall closes the open side below the point of entry of the articles.

  • Patent number: 4506493
Abstract: A case packing system, including apparatus and method, wherein cans or like products are introduced to an accumulator in a generally random single file, collected in multiple rows or lanes, and loaded into cartons or cases. Limit means associated with the accumulator define removable abutments against which the leading cans, in the several rows, engage. Switches are provided for sensing the presence of the completed group of cans defined by the multiple rows and, in response thereto, effecting a retraction of the limit means. The accumulator is followed by an infeed belt which introduces the grouped multiple rows of cans into a packing station and onto a pair of support panels mounted for vertical pivoting for a downward discharge of the cans into a subjacent case. Empty cases are conveyed sequentially into the packing station in underlying relation to the panel supported cans.

  • Patent number: 4506495
Abstract: A machine for producing blister packages have several interchangeable dies with cavities, vented to the atmosphere, that differ in shape but have identical rim zones open toward an abutment plate through which compressed air is admitted for deforming a preheated thermoplastic carrier strip periodically pressed against that plate by the reciprocating die. The blisters thus formed in the carrier strip are filled with goods to be packaged and are then engaged by a transport wheel with peripheral indentations fitting around the invariable rim zones thereof, these indentations being separated by webs coacting with a counterroller to heat-seal the carrier strip onto an overlying metallic cover strip. Another, similarly indented transport wheel downstream of the sealing station, operating in a different rhythm, feeds the resulting composite tape to a die cutter dividing same into individual packages each having one or more rows of blisters.

  • Patent number: 4506504
Abstract: An electronic engine control for a gas turbine monitors a plurality of speed and temperature parameters. For each of the parameters a setpoint signal is produced that can be either fixed or variable and which is compared against the parameter signal to produce a difference signal proportional to the amplitude and rate of change of the difference between the parameter and setpoint signal.A gas generator minimum control signal is high selected with a power turbine minimum speed signal. The resulting high selected signal is then low selected with the power turbine average temperature and gas generator control signals. A low selection provides for fuel control to drive the most extreme variable parameter back to its setpoint by means of a feedback loop to an output driver circuit within a fuel valve card.

  • Patent number: 4506513
Abstract: A cold trap for removing contaminants from a vapor stream has a coolant expansion chamber extending the length of the cold trap housing and a stack of spaced-apart, perforated disk-shaped baffles mounted about the outside of the expansion chamber. A coolant feed tube is mounted inside, and extends the length of, the expansion chamber. Coolant exits the feed tube into the expansion chamber through a small tangential outlet hole in the bottom of the feed tube to increase coolant turbulence and heat transfer efficiency. The cold trap causes the vapor stream to pass through one or more centrifugal separation and condensation stages defined by the baffles to remove solid particles, mists and condensates. A reversible refrigeration system is used both to cool the cold trap and to rapidly defrost it. This permits the rapid liquification and drainage of collected contaminants.

  • Patent number: 4506516
Abstract: A method and control system for operating a refrigeration unit to permit random loading and unloading sequences of multiple compressors and unloaders. The random loading and unloading sequences of the two circuits of compressors and unloaders is performed by a microprocessor. A random sequence is selected at start-up and the selected sequence loads the compressors to full load, where upon another random sequence is selected to unload the compressors. The compressors are also loaded in response to the water temperature leaving the chiller. The leaving water temperature is compensated for by a return water temperature which determines the temperature drop through the heat exchanger. The temperature drop is divided by the number of active stages to determine the drop/stage, which is an indication of how the leaving water temperature will change when a capacity stage is either added or subtracted.

A compressor pulley is attached to the compressor drive shaft and generally aligned with the compressor drive assembly drive shaft pulley.

  • Patent number: 4506524
Abstract: An absorption type heat transfer and thermally powered temperature pressure potential amplifier system for storing energy by distilling and separating solute from a solution of the solute and a solvent at a low temperature, then amplifying and recovering the temperature and/or vapor pressure potential difference between the solute and the solution at a higher temperature in the form of heat transfer or its mechanical power equivalent. One working fluid is a solute having a low boiling point, the other a solution of the solute in a solvent having a high boiling point such that mutual solubility is poor at low temperatures as indicated by a small vapor pressure difference between solute and solution, and in which the vapor pressure difference between solute and solution greatly increases at higher temperatures. This permits the vapor pressure potential difference to be released in the form of mechanical work when vapor from separated solute is reabsorbed into solution in an absorber at the higher temperature.

Abstract: This door lock assembly has a thin mounting plate which fits snugly against the door post and passes behind the rear edge of the door without interfering with the usual latch on the door. An opening in this mounting plate passes the usual striker on the door post for engagement by the door latch. The mounting plate has an outer wall segment which extends behind the rear edge of the door and supports the housing of a lock. The lock has a slidable locking bolt which can be retracted behind the rear edge of the door, permitting the door to be opened and closed, or extended forward along the outside of the door to lock it closed.

  • Patent number: 4506530
Abstract: In a security door lock a pivoted detent deadlocks the bolt by engagement of a stump in pockets provided in the bolt. The detent is normally held in its locking position by a cam surface on the thrower and by a pack of detainers. Rotation of the correct key aligns notches in the detainers with a probe on the detent and also positions a second cam surface of the thrower adjacent to the detent, so the detent can pivot to its unlocking position under the action of a spring, and thereby free the bolt. After the bolt is shifted the final rotation of the key re-engages the cam surface against the detent to drive the detent positively back to its locking position. If required, the bolt can be double-thrown by a second ("master") key which lifts the detainers to higher positions so that second notches in the detainers now align with the detent probe. This higher lifting of the detainers also lifts a dogging slide so that the stump of the latter can pass over a projection on the bolt tail.

Abstract: A control method for controlling the screwing down pressure provided in a reeling mill where the reels are controlled by a combination of signals continuously monitored by a computer. The signals include the temperature of the pipe entering the reeling mill, the voltage and current supplied to the reeling motor and the speed of the reeling motor. A calculation is then performed which gives the actual reduction of wall thickness based upon a predetermined relationship of the temperature of the pipe entering the reeling mill and the torque of the rolling motor. The torque is calculated based upon the speed, current and voltage of the rolling motor. The pressure supplied to the rolling reels is then altered based on this signal.
