  • Patent number: 4520554
Abstract: A semiconductor device having a multi-level metallization system wherein the first level is of aluminum containing up to 3 of percent silicon and the second level is either aluminum or aluminum containing silicon in an amount less than that contained in the first level. The two levels where they contact each other are sintered together with some of the silicon from the first level being diffused into the second level so that the second level has a region adjacent the junction between the two levels which has a higher content of silicon than the remaining portion of the second level. When making the device, the surface of the first level where it is to be joined with the second level is etched to remove some of the aluminum, but not the silicon, which roughens this surface. The second level is applied on this roughened surface and the device is heated to sinter the two levels together and diffuse the silicon into the second level.

  • Patent number: 4520565
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting hair at a predetermined measured length is provided using a clip device having a first and second jaw member, whereby each jaw member has a clamping portion and a handle member. Pressure applied to the handle members causes the clamping portion to separate, such that a section of hair may be encompassed thereby. Depending from the first jaw member are base spacer attachments arranged to rest on the scalp while grasping the section of hair between the clamping portions. This allows for manual trimming with scissors along the upper edge of the clamping portion. Said section of hair is therefore cut at a predetermined length measured by the combination of the height of the jaw member and the size of the spacer attachments selected.

Abstract: A fishing lure for use with a line having terminal gear has a flexible tubular body; a head member attachable to the tubular body at one end and having at least one axial bore therethrough; an end cap attachable to the tubular body at the other end and having at least one axial bore therethrough. The lure is threadable over the line, which passes through the bore in the head, through the tubular member and through the bore in the end cap. The bore in the end cap is sufficiently small to prevent the terminal gear, including a hook, from passing therethrough, whereby the lure flexes on the line as the lure is pushed through the water by the terminal gear engaging the end cap, as the terminal gear is itself pulled through the water by the line. The lure may further comprise first and second elastic members tightly engaging around the lure and spaced from one another, under which a section of the line may be releasably held.

  • Patent number: 4520595
Abstract: The invention relates to an automatic machine tool for machining workpieces, including a number n of workpiece receivers that can be adjusted in angular and/or spatial position and including an equal number n of work stations, one of said work stations being an exchange station, said receivers or stations being disposed at mutual angular separations of 360.degree./n on a rotatable index table, said stations or said receivers being locally fixed thereon and said index table being advanceable in such a manner that each workpiece traverses all stations in the same sequence. By applying the invention reliable and precise machining, coupled with simple construction should be achieved. This is made possible by the fact that the drive of the index table is controllable so that a sequence of (n-1) rotary steps by 360.degree./n in one direction is followed by a rotary step of 360.degree. (n-1)/n in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4520596
Abstract: A machine is of the type comprising an oscillating movable head with a tool-holding spindle, driven in rotation above a lens-support. The lens-support is borne by a vertically movable spindle which is mounted inside a sleeve, flared out at its upper part to form two bearing surfaces and, the lens-support comprises a ledge which surrounds the part of the sleeve containing the bearing surfaces. The lens-support rests on a head mounted for free rotation in a fixed pivot so that when the spindle is moved upwardly, the lens-support is immobilized in a horizontal position, to deposit the lenses to be polished thereon, or to remove them after the polishing operation. When the spindle is moved downwardly, the lens-support, then at a distance from the bearing surfaces, can oscillate freely during the lens-polishing operation, under the effect of the movable oscillating head.

  • Patent number: 4520597
Abstract: A grinding unit especially adapted for use for grinding with a robot and in automatic machines. The unit is designed with a grinding wheel on an axially displaceable shaft, which is urged in a direction towards a surface to be ground by a spring. The grinding pressure is determined by this spring and the position of the grinding wheel is determined by the level of the grinding surface. The mass of the parts which are displaced under the influence of the grinding pressure can be made small. Only the grinding wheel, the shaft and a member, which is directly connected to said shaft, are displaced. Therefore, the grinding pressure is influenced only to an insignificant extent when changing the orientation of the grinding unit.

Abstract: A bowl-type vibratory finishing machine is disclosed which employs an extremely simple yet highly effective arrangement of components enabling a relatively low-energy-input drive system to efficiently impart an extraordinarily aggressive finishing action to a mixture of workpieces and finishing media contained within an annular, trough-like finishing chamber defined by a movably supported bowl. The finishing chamber extends substantially horizontally about a substantially vertical center axis. An eccentrically weighted drive shaft extends along the center axis and is journaled by bearings which are connected to the bowl so that, when the drive shaft is rotated, vibrations generated by the unbalanced nature of the drive shaft are transmitted to the bowl and cause the bowl to vibrate generally about a nodal point located along the central axis.

  • Patent number: 4520599
Abstract: A drill bit sharpening apparatus designed to sharpen the points of bits having differing diameters and differing point angles. The apparatus accommodates bits having differing point angles by providing a bit cradling member that has a plurality of mounting apertures formed therein wherein the respective positions of such apertures are predetermined to position the bit to be sharpened in proper angular relation to the grinding means, such aperture positions being mathematically determined. Bits of differing diameters are accommodated by a mechanism that positions the bit cradling member and hence the bit to be sharpened in the proper spaced relation to such grinding medium, said positioning also being mathematically determined. A different gauge member is provided for each differing point angle, and a plurality of algorhythm-derived points are marked on each gauge, which points represent the respective settings of the apparatus as between bits of differing diameters.
