  • Patent number: 4520602
Abstract: A multiple-pane, hermetically-sealed, thermal-resistant window with a spacer between adjacent panes for maintaining separation between the panes wherein the corners of the spacer are rigidified and locked by a corner insert which prevents separation of adjacent spacer frame members and wherein the spacer frame members are attached to the window frame to prevent and/or reduce movement of the spacer frame members. The seal around the cavity between adjacent panes is completed after the temperature of the window components and the cavity air is about equal to the temperature of the ambient air. A resistance heating wire is applied to the outside surface of the spacer frame intermediate the adjacent panes of glass.

  • Patent number: 4520605
Abstract: A water tight decorative molding comprising two elongate side strips joined by an outward facing intermediate elongate strip for sealing and protecting a joint formed by the intersection of two surfaces. A plurality of perforations extend from the outward facing intermediate strip into a cavity between the two elongate side strips, increasing the surface area to which caulking may bond. After a bead of caulking is applied to the intersection of the two surfaces, the molding is laid over the caulking and is then firmly pressed down along its entire length. By firmly pressing the molding to snugly fit between the surfaces, the caulking material fills the cavity between elongate side strips and the perforations, providing a water tight seal.

  • Patent number: 4520614
Abstract: Relatively tall stacks of paper sheets are introduced into successive cartons from above while the cartons are confined in the chamber of a receptacle whose side walls prevent excessive outward bulging of the adjacent side walls of the carton when a stack descends toward the carton in a vertical duct whose cross-sectional area is just sufficient to allow the stacks to descend. Each descending stack pushes a column of air into the carton wherein the air is compressed and urges the side walls of the carton against the respective side walls of the receptacle. The upper end of the duct receives stacks from an upright container having a bottom wall which is movable between open and closed positions. A side wall of the receptacle is detachable or otherwise movable to an open position so as to allow for insertion of empty cartons into or for removal of filled cartons from the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4520640
Abstract: A steering column mounted vehicle ignition lock mechanism and a floor-mounted transmission shifter have an interconnecting mechanism which prevents the steering column from being locked unless the transmission shifter is in the "Park" position. This mechanism also prevents the transmission shifter from being moved from the "Park" position when the ignition lock mechanism is in the "Lock" position. The interconnecting mechanism is generally comprised of a pair of slidable pins each cooperating with a housing to form recesses. The pins are moved in response to movement of the vehicle ignition lock and transmission shifter, respectively, so that the recesses will be properly aligned for movement of a latching member upon predetermined positioning of the slidable pins.

  • Patent number: 4520641
Abstract: A multi-dial combination lock is provided with a security feature whereby the dials are rotated when the lock is opened in order to upset the on-combination setting of the dials. Each dial has a heart-shaped cam and a cam operator is provided including followers for the respective cams. When the lock is set on-combination, and an actuator is moved manually in order to open the lock, the actuator also works the cam operator so as to apply pressure to the cam formations on the respective dials effective to rotate each of the dials into a set orientation. In the set orientation to which the dials are rotated, each dial may be orientated so as to display the same combination indicium, e.g. "0". The lock also includes a shift member for changing the set combination of the dials, the shift member being situated in a pocket formed in the manual actuator.

  • Patent number: 4520642
Abstract: A control device for a continuous rolling machine effects feedback control by measuring vertical and lateral dimensions at a point after an ith mill stand, and by controlling the tension in the material between an i-1th and the ith mill stand and the position of the ith mill stand to reduce the differences between the detected dimensions and reference dimensions to zero. A shape correction device may be used which calculates lateral and vertical dimension change values for the i-1th stand, which are used to control the position of the i-1th stand and the tension in the material between an i-2th mill stand and the i-1th stand to assist in bringing the actual dimensional output values into coincidence with the reference values.

  • Patent number: 4520643
Abstract: The assembly for blowing out and spraying dies in a forging press is particularly adapted both to automatically operating and hand operated drop-forging presses. The automatically operating drop forging presses have workpiece transport effected by a walking beam transport system. The blowing and spraying assembly comprises arms having nozzles disposed at the end thereof to be guided into the mold area of the forging press in a timed sequence while avoiding the movement of the press plunger and walking beam transport system when it is being used. The blowing and spraying assembly comprises a carrier means hinged to a four-bar linkage arrangement which has two levers and a carrier member. In a specific embodiment, the ends of the two levers facing away from the carrier member are pivotably mounted to a housing. The housing constitutes a carrier support means secured to the stator of the forging press.

  • Patent number: 4520644
Abstract: A cyclically operable spring coiling machine includes a pair of feed rolls for intermittently advancing wire longitudinally to a coiling station at an upper portion of a vertical front frame of the machine. A coiling arbor and a coiling tool at the station cooperatively form leading end portions of the wire to a coil spring configuration and an improved cut-off means severs the coiled leading end portions of wire to provide individual coil springs. The improved cut-off means includes a pair of tool holders on opposite sides of the coiling arbor movable toward and away from the arbor and wire coiled thereabout and generally in opposition to each other. The holders are employed selectively depending on the hand of the spring being coiled and are respectively mounted on pivot shafts extending rearwardly through the front frame of the machine and geared together at rear end portions.

Abstract: In a processing device which includes a pair of rotatable rolls and a support for supporting a coil of foil-like material, a device is provided for feeding the leading end of the outer turn of the coil of foil-like material into the gap between the rolls. The device comprises a structure which is movable along a path which brings it close to the periphery of the coil and to the roll gap. The structure includes suction apparatus for picking up the outer turn of the coil and apparatus for blowing air over a surface of the leading end of the foil to cause the leading end to tauten and enter into the roll gap.

  • Patent number: 4520646
Abstract: A sheet-metal bending brake has a stationary anvil having a flat and horizontal support surface bounded by and having a straight stationary bending edge and a cut-out back surface forming an acute angle with the support surface. A bending assembly displaceable perpendicular to and adjacent the anvil carries a movable bending blade having a movable bending edge parallel to the stationary edge and spaced therefrom in a direction parallel to the support surface and a clamp bar above the support surface adjacent the blade and having a clamp-bar face confronting and parallel to the support surface. This bar is supported on the bending assembly for limited vertical movement relative thereto between a lower position with the bar face below the movable edge and an upper position with the bar face above the movable edge and is normally spring-biased into the lower position.

  • Patent number: 4520650
Abstract: A calibrator especially suitable for calibrating electromagnetic flow velocity sensors under field conditions requires no source of water and no source of electrical power. The calibrator includes a pickup coil that intercepts all or a known fraction of the flux generated by the sensor and generates a voltage in response to the flux. The voltage is applied to the electrodes of the sensor thereby simulating a flow velocity. The gain of the sensor is adjusted so that the simulated flow velocity equals a pre-determined reading. The pickup coil may include a number of taps that may selectively be connected to an electrode of the sensor to simulate flow velocities of various magnitudes, thereby permitting the linearity of the sensor to be checked. The calibrator also includes a direct conductive path that may selectively be connected between the electrodes of the sensor to simulate the zero flow velocity condition, thereby permitting the zero offset of the sensor to be checked.
