Abstract: A new and improved drill bit for connection on a drill string has a hollow tubular body with an end cutting face and an exterior peripheral stabilizer surface with cylindrical sintered carbide inserts positioned therein. Nozzle passages extend from the interior of the bit body through the cutting face, preferably at an angle of about 10.degree.-25.degree. relative to the longitudinal axis of the body, and consist of a passage in the bit body and a removable and interchangeable nozzle member. The nozzle member is secured in place either by peripheral grooves and snap rings or aligned smaller passages in the nozzle member and the bit body having a retaining pin positioned therein.
Abstract: Reinforced facings, including reinforcing webs entrained in hydraulic cement via a slurry bath, adhere to a nailable lightweight aggregate cementitious core to form a panel web. The reinforced web is formed on abutting conveyed carrier sheets, and the web is transversely cut, between the sheets, while moving or when stopped, in response to sensing of the sheets. The cut panels, on respective sheets are stacked for curing without damaging the panel edges and in a manner to minimize panel flex. Slurry bath, facing applicators, and cutter and stacking apparatus are included.
Abstract: A quickly replaceable padding for athletic gear and the like, comprised of a depressible core coextensively bonded within an envelope of impervious sanitary material and to which at least one strap is anchored by sewing to a doubler coextensively bonded between the core and envelope, the padding being attached by primary securement to an overlying structural member by turning of the strap over a bitt formed on the structural member and thereby establishing a bite that holds the pad in position, and in each instance held secure by secondary securement of the strap by hook-and-loop fastener elements pulling in the plane of interface engagement between overlapped secondary fastener elements.
Abstract: A convertible jacket comprising a sleeveless body garment in the general form of a vest and an upper component comprising, as a unit, two sleeve portions connected by a yoke portion incorporating a neckhole and, optionally, a neckhole extension such as a collar or hood. The yoke portion of the upper component is so configured as to substantially cover the upper back and shoulder area of the body. The upper component, when combined with the vest, forms a selectively convertible jacket providing a second layer of construction upon the upper back and shoulders, minimum restriction of arm and shoulder movement and positive body ventilation. The upper component can be readily oriented to and attached to the vest by fastener means and can be readily detached and removed from the vest. Such attachment or removal may be effected without regard to whether the vest is being worn.
Abstract: A protective enclosure fabricated from a clear, flexible, plastic material that, in the event of an emergency, is easily positionable over the head and upper body of a wearer to protect the wearer from the adverse effects of a contaminated environment, such as that filled with smoke or similar noxious fumes. The top of the enclosure is sealed by a reinforced, relatively stiff closure member. Accordingly, an airspace containing a reserve air supply from which the wearer may breathe is created around the wearer's head. The bottom of the enclosure contains a fastener by which the enclosure may be securely tightened around the waist of the wearer. Each side of the enclosure includes an arm port through which the wearer's arms may extend. The arm ports are interfaced with an elastic material which is adapted to form an airtight seal around the wearer's arms when the arms are inserted therethrough.
Abstract: A garment having a right side portion and a left side portion, with a mating mechanism applied to the left side portion and the right side portion such that each portion may mate with the other to form an entire garment but when said right side portion and said left side portion are separated they are identically indistinguishable from each other.
Abstract: An underwear garment or similar garment having leg shield means which are adapted to fit into both crevices located at the junctures of the legs and the pelvis to form the sides of a compartment for containing the male reproduction organs which provides for less restrictive and more effective, indirect support than found in the prior art.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to polymethylmethacrylate bone cement that is premixed and frozen so as to arrest the polymerization reaction at a suitable point. The frozen bone cement is treated by electromagnetic radiation to insure sterility. In use, the bone cement is warmed until it reaches a temperature and consistency suitable for use. The bone cement may be prepackaged in a syringe, or may be molded for use in connection with a particular prosthesis, or may be packaged unitarily with a prosthesis.
Abstract: A urine flow meter including a toilet mounted collector is disclosed. The collector has a mouth portion which is dimensioned to fit within a toilet bowl and which has walls which slope downwardly and inwardly to a neck portion. The neck portion extends downwardly from the lower end of the mouth portion to receive urine directed into it from the mouth portion. An aperture is formed in the neck portion and a pressure sender has a lower end in communication with the neck portion. An upper end of the pressure sender is above the neck portion and is connected to a pressure transducer. Urine accumulates in the neck portion until the flow rate into the collector equals the flow rate out through the aperture. The accumulated volume of urine in the neck portion produces an air pressure within the pressure sender which is converted into an electrical signal by the pressure transducer. The pressure transducer output signal is suitable to be processed to provide critical urine flow data.
Abstract: A water saving system for preventing the waste of water which falls below a predetermined temperature, which system includes a recirculating pipe line extending from an outlet faucet back to a heating device and which system is appropriately controlled thermostatically by a series of temperature sensing devices. The system includes a solenoid control valve which prohibits the delivery of water, which is below a predetermined temperature but which is appropriately controlled to be opened when the water in the delivery line is sufficiently heated. The system further includes a pump, which is energized to recirculate cooled water back to a heating source and which pump is de-energized when the water in the delivery line is at the desired predetermined delivery temperature.
Abstract: This invention is a solid block placed between a commode and a floor to raise the commode seat; and including mounting bolts for the block and commode.
Abstract: A water distribution system for a shower enclosure (1) including longitudinal water channels (20-24), each having an internal passage (36), and covering clips (60,70) secured to each of a pair of water channels at a corner therebetween.
Abstract: Lift apparatus by which invalids are translated into various positions through the use of a radio-controlled mechanism operable by the invalid from the lift transport platform. Linear actuators responsive to the radio control network operate to position a rotatable vertical member upon which there is mounted a cantilevered member which is also responsive to a linear actuator. The linear actuators have extendable rams which permit the cantilevered member which supports the invalid transport platform to be positioned in any of myriad locations.
Abstract: An adjustable retainer bracket for retaining a bedding foundation such as box springs on a pedestal bed base having spaced side rails and cross slats connected between the side rails, includes a retainer plate having a horizontal web connected to downwardly extending vertical side legs, and spaced locator holes and a keyhole formed in the horizontal web. The retainer plate is mounted atop a cross slat by placing the keyhole over an upstanding shouldered rivet fixed to the cross slat. The vertical legs of the retainer plate extend downwardly and straddle the cross slat to prevent rotation of the retainer plate relative to the cross slat. A spring locking member having a locking pin at one end is mounted to the underside of the cross rail so that the locking pin extends upwardly through one of the spaced locator holes formed in the retainer plate.
Abstract: A body support element such as a mattress, box springs or the like that exhibits non-slip qualities as to a further item freely supported thereon. A ticking fabric covers at least an upper surface of the element includes a base fabric having pairs of yarns laid in atop said base fabric and secured thereto, the lay in yarns following non-linear paths. The yarns of each pair preferably follow mirror image paths to the opposite yarn of the pair. Processes for producing the ticking fabric and finishing same are also included.
