Patent number: 4554697Abstract: There is described a self-propelled railroad track ballast broom machine having a first broom unit operatively mounted at the rear of the machine frame and a second broom unit operatively mounted at the front of the frame. The broom units have substantially cylindrical brooms extending transversely of the railroad track and deflector boxes located forwardly of each of the brooms. The brooms have gaps sufficiently wide, and so spaced apart thereon, as to avoid broom contact with the rail heads in normal tangent track sweeping operations. When the machine enters into track curves, the first broom unit is so far behind the machine rear axle that it is transversely displaced relative to the track center. Compensating transverse movement can be applied to the first broom unit to maintain the broom gaps in line with the rail heads and the ends of the broom in operative engagement with both the track shoulder edges.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1983Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: Canron Corp.Inventors: Calvin L. Patent number: 4554715Abstract: A method for the finishing of textile sheets, in which textile sheets for outer wear, upholstered furniture and car seat covers, as well as for decoration, preferably made of yarns having yarn strengths typical for carded yarns and/or worsted yarns (for example, ring yarns, OE-yarns, MJS yarns, friction yarns), are adjusted in a "custom-made" fashion, according to the sheet forming process. Textile sheet is supplied to a needling process alone, or together with the most varied sheets (for example, fleece, woven materials, foam materials, etc) or warps as well. Because of the needling process, by means of which the fibers are displaced from one layer into another with 50 to 1200 stitches per cm.sup.2 by felting needles, preferably CB notched needles, there is a permanent layering which, however, for the production of sheets with naps, can be cut as well.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: VEB Forster TuchfabrikenInventors: Ingeborg Reim, Gerhard Pohl, Wolfgang Gotzke, Dieter Wahnberger, Lothar Postel, Irmgard Kindlein, Rudolf Vatter, Manfred Greschke

Patent number: 4554719Abstract: A heat exchanger for transferring heat from stale air evacuated from a building to incoming fresh air employs a core made of a stack of spaced aluminum sheets that are joined along opposite edges in an alternate arrangement to define two separate sets of air passages for the respective outgoing and incoming flows, while providing good thermal contact between the two flows. This contact is improved by generating a measure of turbulence in the air flows by forming the sheets with surface nodules. The core is mounted in a frame that can be readily slid into a housing containing fans for generating the air flows. In an alternative construction, each air flow can be caused to travel in series through two parts of each set of air passages, rather than in parallel. This series arrangement has the advantage of reducing the temperature drop across any one part of the core below the total temperature difference between the inside and outside of the building. A machine is also disclosed for manufacturing such a core.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1983Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: Nutech Energy Systems, Inc.Inventor: James H. Lewis

Patent number: 4554738Abstract: Apparatus for supporting and guiding a machine for operating on sheet material such as cloth while the material lies on a surface of a supporting structure having a pair of substantially parallel sides extending lengthwise of the structure, the apparatus comprising a carriage adapted for movement lengthwise of the supporting structure along a path substantially parallel to the sides, a guide arm on the carriage extending across the supporting surface between the sides and spaced from the surface, and a support arm connected to the guide arm extending at an angle thereto and located in spaced relation to the supporting surface, the support arm carrying at one end a machine for operating on the sheet material, and the support arm being pivotally movable about an axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the guide arm and along a plane disposed substantially perpendicular to the supporting surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1983Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: Eastman Machine CompanyInventors: Robert C. Barrett, John H. Buscher, William M. Putnam

Patent number: 4554740Abstract: The disclosure illustrates a pantograph comprising a pair of parallel guides slideably and pivotally mounted on a base support which is mounted to a table. A saddle supporting a stylus is mounted on one end of the guides and another saddle slideable on the guides mounts a tool such as a router. A series of parallel adjustable links interconnect the base, tool mounting saddle and stylus saddle, so that movement of the tool saddle is a predetermined scale of the stylus movement. The scale is set by the geometry of the links. The pantograph may also be used to make three dimensional reproductions of an object.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Inventor: David Gill

Patent number: 4554741Abstract: A measuring system for measuring the relative position of two machine parts of a processing machine includes a scale fastened at one end by means of screws to the slide of the machine. The other end of the scale is joined by means of an adhesive layer with one end of an expansion element. The other end of the expansion element is fastened in a similar manner by means of screws to the slide. For the compensation of thermally induced length changes of the scale, the expansion element is provided with a coefficient of thermal expansion substantially greater than that of the slide piece. Thermal expansion of the expansion element is dimensioned in such a way that the measuring length of the scale is preserved in an unaltered length in the event of temperature fluctuations by means of increased compressive forces applied by the expansion element to the scale.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: Dr. Johannes Heidenhain GmbHInventor: Alfred Affa

Patent number: 4554743Abstract: A gauge for use in measuring the protrusion of a head from the surface of a video recorder is disclosed. The gauge is a universal gauge which can accurately and reproducibly measure head protrusion on any video recorder without the need of precision aligned mounting holes. The necessary accuracy is achieved by a unique double pivot design along with a universal mounting scheme. A novel mechanism is also provided to aid in visual alignment of the gauge and to provide a positive indication of misalignment by the user.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: Tentel CorporationInventors: Wayne B.
