  • Patent number: 4719744
Abstract: Vacuum spinning of yarn produces yarns having good properties, and which may have a wide variety of different effects and constructions. A core filament yarn may be fed into operative association with a nipped sliver or roving, and then fed to a perforated rotating hollow shaft operatively connected to the vacuum. The core filament yarn may be a full stretched textured yarn, which is placed under tension and while under tension is dragged over a sharp edge of nonconductive material, and after the tension is relieved develops crimp. This causes individual fibers to be repelled, and provides for intermixing of the nipped sliver or roving fibers and the core filament yarn fibers. Alternatively, the filament yarn may be acted upon by draft rollers before the entrance to, and after the exit from, the hollow rotating shaft, to apply a force that breaks up to about 20% of the fibers. The yarns produced utilizing the broken fibers has a spun-like appearance.

  • Patent number: 4719751
Abstract: A particulate oxidizer system for a diesel engine comprises a diesel particulate oxidizer (DPO) in the exhaust line to collect and burn particulates in the exhaust. The DPO comprises ceramic foam with a catalyst. When the quantity of particulates in the DPO reaches a predetermined value, high temperature gas containing oxygen is fed to the DPO to burn off (regenerate) the collected particulates. This is achieved by retard control of the injection timing under control of an engine control unit (ECU). A regeneration timing detection means detects the regeneration timing in the DPO. When the quantity of particulates in the DPO falls below a predetermined value, the ECU provides a signal to increase the idling revolution of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4719765
Abstract: An ice body maker having a storage bin into which ice bodies are delivered from ice slab cutting structure. The ice bodies in the storage bin are illuminated from a lamp which utilizes the grid wires of the cutting structure as a diffusion structure for minimizing glare, facilitating observation of the ice bodies and removal thereof by the user. The lamp is located so as to direct the light therefrom primarily away from the access opening for further improved illumination of the ice bodies. The lamp is preselected to provide sufficient illumination to illuminate the ice bodies through an ice slab carried on the grid structure as during a slab cutting operation and utilizes the ice slab itself as a further light diffusion element. Still further diffusion of the light for improved uniformity on the ice bodies is effected by the reticulation of the ice slab effected by the grid wires in cutting through the slab during the slab cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4719774
Abstract: A deadbolt assembly of the kind in which a deadbolt is mounted on a housing for linear movement between inoperative and inoperative positions in which the deadbolt engages with and does not engage respectively, a strike. An actuator is rotatably mounted on the housing and is drivably connected to the actuator through a drive plate which rotates in response to operation of the actuator, and a drive pin is secured to the plate at a position radially outwards of the rotational axis of the plate. The pin locates within a non-circular hole provided in the deadbolt and reacts against edges of that hole to cause the deadbolt movement. The pin moves along an arcuate path between each of its two extreme positions, and at each of those positions the pin lies on a straight line which extends substantially parallel to the direction of movement of the deadbolt and which substantially intersects the rotational axis of the drive plate. Both the deadbolt and the strike can be made from steel or other strong metal.
