Patent number: 4726098Abstract: Spun yarns are subjected to the vortex action of an impinging, circularly rotating fluid to lay down extending staple fibers against the yarn body while causing the yarn path to balloon and are then contacted with a melt size presented on a slower moving grooved melt size applicator. As a result of the ballooned yarn path, the yarn wipes melt size from the sides and bottom of the groove, giving the yarn a smooth, substantially continuous coating on its outside surface. Spun yarns so treated may be successfully woven as filling yarn on a water jet loom and knit as the warp yarn or as laid-in yarns on a knitting machine without excessive lint accumulation.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1986Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Assignee: Burlington Industries, Inc.Inventor: Delano M. Patent number: 4726100Abstract: A scroll compressor can be provided with different wrap thicknesses to compensate for the different material properties of the orbiting and fixed scroll elements. The concept of different wrap thicknesses also aids in the select-fitting of parts and in the provision of and adjustment of a clearance or spacing between the wrap elements. Additionally, in the manufacture of a scroll compressor, the total wrap thickness of the two wraps is kept constant within narrow tolerances while the individual wrap thicknesses are allowed to vary over a predetermined range. The cutting tools used are sized such that even if they differ in their cutting diameters, the combined cutting diameters, and therefore the total wrap thicknesses, are constant within narrow tolerances. This permits the tools to be used and resharpened until their cutting diameters fall below the minimum acceptable diameter.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1986Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Shahrokh Etemad, Donald Yannascoli, Michael Hatzikazakis

Patent number: 4726101Abstract: A gas turbine vane (1) is subject to distortion and wear during operation or repair which results in an increase in the spacing between successive vanes (6 and 7) which define nozzle gas flow areas (8 and 9). During refurbishment, the nozzle spacing must be returned to the original dimension to insure optimum turbine performance. A build up of alloy in the wear area is accomplished by controllably applying layers of a tape (12) of uniform thickness to the vane. The tape includes a mixture of a binder and an alloy powder, which is compatible with the substrate alloy, with the mixture formed into a sheet of uniform thickness and having an adhesive backing. After applying the tape in layers to a desired thickness, the vane is heated to a temperature at which the binder and adhesive decompose and the alloy in the tape diffusion bonds with the substrate alloy. Utilization of this process reduces the cost of refurbishing used turbine vanes and avoids hot forming or bending processes which could damage the vanes.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1986Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Peter J. Patent number: 4726142Abstract: A spring-loaded, double-acting fish hook having a pair of oppositely directed barbed hooks at the ends of a pair of legs of a spring member. The spring is disclosed as of the safety pin type, bent in a loop at its midpoint and having a catch on one leg engageable by a latch pivotally mounted on the other leg to maintain the spring in a flexed position with the hooks overlapping one another. Pressure on a trigger arm extending integrally from the latch to a position closely adjacent one of the hooks releases the latch, allowing the biasing force of the spring to move the legs, and thus the hooks, in opposite directions.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1986Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Inventor: William Tapley

Patent number: 4726145Abstract: A sliding patio door assembly is disclosed of the kind in which the door, when it is being closed, moves bodily laterally with respect to the slide track; i.e., forwardly with respect to the closing door panel. When fully closed, the door is entered into a recess, and a weather seal is compressed between the door and a lip surrounding the recess. The door is controlled, as to its lateral movement relative to the slide track, upon crank arms, and it is a feature of the disclosure that the crank arms are constrained to pivot in unison but in opposite senses of rotation. Another feature is that the crank arms lie at 90 degrees to the line of the slide track when the door is fully closed.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1987Date of Patent: February 23, 1988Inventor: Stanley Rokicki
