  • Patent number: 4726213
Abstract: A shape controlling method for controlling the shape of a sheet rolled in a rolling mill, with the shape pattern of the sheet being approximated by a formula of an order of a large number, in accordance with the detected shape signals. Asymmetrical fundamental component (component of the first order) is extracted from the approximating formula. The control with respect to the fundamental component is allotted to the rolling reduction function, while the controls relative to the higher order asymmetrical components are conducted by other final control element than the rolling reduction function. The asymmetrical fundamental component causes winding of the sheet during rolling. By controlling the fundamental component separately from other components, it is possible to improve the shape of the rolled product while avoiding winding of the product under rolling operation.

  • Patent number: 4726234
Abstract: A plurality of parallel rows of short flexible tubes lead from a housing. Each row is provided with an elongate bar in which each tube is provided with a transverse fluid passage leading to a port by means of which the respective tube may be connected to an outside fluid conduit. Each elongate bar, by virtue of the flexibility of the tubes, may be pivoted to one side, thereby giving access to connections at interior bars. The structure has particular utility in a system where a plruality of fluid pressure pickups are fed to individual pressure measuring transducers in the housing. Partitions and actuating bladders are interposed between the flexible tubes, so that inflation of a given bladder will pinch off a row of flexible tubes and allow a selected group or row of tubes to be selectively connected to the pickups. In this way a limited number of transducers in the housing may be used to successively measure a much larger number of fluid pressure pickup points, by time sharing use of the transducers.

  • Patent number: 4726238
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for trapping and injecting a fluid sample (liquid or gas) at high temperature and pressure without any sample loss. Here, a sample is flowed into an aperture in the valve body and then into a sample chamber. The sample chamber is mounted in a slidable stem and once the sample is in the sample chamber, the stem is moved to a position to seal off the sample. Once the sample is trapped, the valve is moved to a chromatograph (while maintaining the sample at pressure and temperature), flushed with a carrier gas, and the stem is moved to open the sample chamber to the gas. This flushes the sample and moves it to the chromatograph.

  • Patent number: 4726243
Abstract: A continuously variable friction drive transmission has expandable fluid housing members on both the input shaft and the output shaft. The housing members are in fluid communication with a control valve which is operable to establish the fluid pressures in the housings. The housings are maintained in frictional engagement by the internal fluid pressure such that power can be transmitted between the shafts. The drive ratio between the shafts is determined by the internal pressures of the housings which establish the outer diameters thereof. The drive ratio is changed by changing one or both of the internal fluid pressures.
