Abstract: A new and distinct selection of Clivia miniata Regel (popularly known as the Kaffir Lily) which hereinafter shall be referred to as Clivia miniata cultivar Monya. Clivia miniata cv. Monya differs from seedlings by possessing a combination of broader foliage, a larger number of flowers in the inflorescence, individual flowers a darker and more red color, and individual flowers possessing tepals which are consistent in size.

Abstract: A new variety of hybrid lily plant bearing large clusters of flowers particularly characterized by their unusual color pattern, combining a soft orange color with rich plum-red "brushmarks", these flowers being of excellent form and long persistence both on the plant and as cut flowers. The plant itself is highly resistant to disease and shows high tolerance of virus, making it an excellent garden plant. The bulbs of this plant may be precooled and forced for out-of-season cut flower production. The clone is a good and vigorous grower and propagator.

The plant has a height of about 90 to 100 cm. with a vigorous, upright growth habit and abundant foliage. The plant is highly resistant to disease and shows high tolerance of virus, which makes it an excellent garden plant. The bulbs may be precooled and forced for cut flower production producing clones each of which is vigorous and a good grower and propagator.

Abstract: A new carnation plant particularly distinguished by its spray of relatively small, Venetian Pink blossoms which are borne in a cluster on a strong, upright stem having an average length of about 6.5 cm. and blooming recurrently with a profuse production of flowers in the spring, midseason and fall periods but having a tendency to give fewer blooms in the fall season. This plant has a vigorous, upright growth habit with an abundant foliage production and reaching an average height of about 98 cm. at eight months, the plant also being tolerant to Fusarium oxysporum as observed I.N.R.A., Antibes, France.

Abstract: A new carnation cultivar having relatively large, bright red blooms which are produced profusely on relatively long, strong, upright stems, blooming recurrently in spring, midseason and fall on a plant having a vigorous, upright growth habit and moderately abundant foliage.

A bird is held by at least one radial processing device which is movable on a frame by a driving device which is provided with a processing arm, at the side facing the frame being provided with an adjustment mechanism which can reorient the processing device during the movement of the arm in a number of various positions of rotation with respect to the arm and a blocking mechanism which can fix the processing device in said positions of rotation, with a deblocking mechanism for unlocking the processing device, and said processing arm at the side facing away from the frame being provided with a stretching mechanism for holding the bird.

Abstract: An orthotic insert for use in various types of foot gear consisting of a first blank and a second blank fused together. The first blank is a flexible pad generally contoured to the bottom of a person's foot and the second blank is more rigid and contoured to the calcaneal and arch regions of a specific individual's foot. In combination the first and second blank form an orthotic insert which offers support to and is resiliently deformable in the heel area and flexible in the toe area thus emulating the requirement of the human gait cycle.

Abstract: A cotton harvester and picker unit is provided for the harvesting of narrow spaced row cotton. The cotton harvester is provided with novel picker units which overlap one another to reduce the total lateral width of the cotton harvester. The inventive harvesting units are also elongated in the direction of the travel to reduce the transverse width. The picker units also have a composite post assembly, compressor sheet and plant lifter which allows for quick disassembly without hand or power tools. Removal of the front post assembly provides easier access to the rotors for maintenance or removal of chokes.

Abstract: A convertible platen for use in a graphics plotter to allow its selective use as either as either a cut paper plotter or a roll paper plotter. The platen is formed from a specially designed aluminum extrusion and a pair is mounted with one on either side of the drum of a drum plotter between the drum and the supply/takeup rollers. The platens can be raised and held adjacent the drum and spanning the vacuum columns in the plotter to create a table having curved outer edges to support cut paper. They can be released and dropped into the vacuum columns whereby they lie against the outer surfaces and form the upper inner wall with curved upper edges over which paper smoothly is guided between the vacuum column and the supply/takeup rollers.

Abstract: An NMR zeugmatographic scanner is modified to produce flow images. A motion sensitizing gradient field is applied to the gyromagnetic nuclei after transverse excitation and prior to emission measurement. The motion sensitized free induction signal which results is processed using an inverse Fourier transformation to produce a number of useful images.

Abstract: An improved motor assembly including a brushless D.C. motor and an annular member defining a platform for the drive electronics and speed control circuits of the motor. The member is carried on a fixed support within the outer envelope of the motor and includes a thin disk-like body providing a pair of opposed surfaces for mounting the components of the circuits. The fixed support of the motor has a flat annular face surrounding the drive shaft of the motor, and the annular member engages and is secured to the flat face of the support in surrounding relationship to the shaft. In a preferred embodiment, the housing of the motor defines part of the rotor of the motor and is for rotation with the shaft. A flange is secured to the support near the opposite end of the shaft for mounting the motor on a fixed support, such as on the base of a housing forming a part of a disk drive unit.

Abstract: A protector which may be readily mounted on a temple of glasses. The protector will extend from the front of the glasses to and beyond the ear piece of the temple so that there will be protection against wind and sun for one's eyes, the side of the face and one's ears. Preferably the protector is formed of a cloth having insulating characteristics and may include an inner rear panel which together with a rear portion of an outer panel defines an ear receiving pocket into which the rear and top portion of one's ear may be tucked for protection. The outer panel is provided with a sleeve arrangement for receiving the temple and this sleeve arrangement may be in the form of spaced short sleeves or elongated sleeves.

Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide thermal protection to the fingers and thumb of a beautician while using a heated hair curling iron. A pair of finger encompassing sheaths (20) and a thumb sheath (28) are connected together with an insulating base structure (22) forming a bridge therebetween. Finger and thumb pads (24) and (30), along with cloth lining (36), provide the insulation and structure while stretchable fabric (26) for the fingers (32) and for the thumb complete the protector holding the device upon the operators hand, allowing complete and unhampered flexibility.

Abstract: A pair of guards for the knee and shin of the left leg and of the right leg of a user. Each guard has a shell-like knee protector and a shell-like shin protector. The protectors of each guard are joined by a pair of hinge pins whose hinge axes are common, and which axis slopes upwardly as it extends away from a vertical axis between the legs of a standing user.

Abstract: A disposable urinating funnel for females comprises a thin, paper-like sheet which is folded in half to form two overlapping sections whose free edges are connected together and are tapered toward the fold line to form a funnel-like shape. The upper edges of the funnel-shape are curved to cover a female vaginal area, and the opposite, bottom edges form a spout-like portion. Score lines are formed midway between the fold line and connected side edges in each of the sections and extend upwardly from the bottom of the spout-forming portion toward the upper end of the funnel-like shape. Manually squeezing the fold line and connected side edges toward each other causes the otherwise flat funnel-like shape to open, by bowing the sections apart along the score lines. In addition, the tapered, connected-together edges are cut along a shallow curve which permits the funnel to be used with the fold line forwardly or rearwardly for selectively directing the flow of liquid through it.

Abstract: A portable toilet enclosure comprises a base and sidewalls attached to sides of the base. The base has a wall in which a portable toilet is disposed. A moveable wall is supported on the sidewalls and is operable to a closed position in which the portable toilet is concealed from view and to an open position which provides use of the portable toilet in the usual manner. The sidewalls incorporate integral hand grips along the top. The bottom edges of the sidewalls provide support for the enclosure on an underlying surface. A pair of wheels are mounted at the lower front corners of the enclosure. With the toilet resting on its sidewalls, the wheels are slightly out of contact with the underlying surface. Forward tipping of the enclosure brings the wheels into contact with the underlying surface while at the same time elevating the lower edges of the sidewalls from the underlying surface so that the enclosure can be rolled.

Abstract: A hydraulically operated hospital bed with dual hydraulic power systems for operation with or without electrical service. The bed has its head and thigh/leg elevation functions performed by hydraulic cylinders. A control circuit meters the introduction and removal of hydraulic fluid from these cylinders so an occupant of the bed is not subjected to any sudden movement. In case of an emergency requiring the bed occupant to be in a supine position (the need to perform CPR), the normal control circuit is bypassed by an emergency circuit that allows much faster than normal lowering of the head and thigh/leg portions of the bed.

Abstract: A water mattress includes an outer bladder for retaining water and an inner chamber assembly for inhibiting wave motion within the bladder. The chamber assembly includes multiple chambers each having a bottom sheet and a closure sheet, and the bottom sheet being deformed to provide the bottom and sides of the chamber. Adjacent chambers are joined along a single seam to form the chamber assembly. In a preferred method, the bottom sheet is heated and drawn into a vacuum form where it is cooled to permanently deform the sheet into integral, multiple chamber, seamless configuration.

Abstract: The leaf bascule bridge activated by a cable system, represents a movable structure which is adapted to opened so as to permit the passage of boats or vessels through the bridge. To achieve this purpose, the bascule bridge is provided with a fixed axis on trunnions attached to the bascule bridge structure, with a cable system for driving the bascule bridge, utilizing a counterweight to counterbalance the weight of the bascule bridge structure and a safety cable to guard against the unexpected uplift of the bascule bridge due wind force. The bascule bridge is activated by a cable system using a pulling force applied to the end of the counterweight for driving the bascule bridge.

Abstract: The appliance is intended to remove dust from solid objects and comprises an ionization device (7) which is operatively associated with an incorporated air nozzle (1), which has an obliquely arranged, narrow, linear blowing slot (2) which serves to produce an air jet which sweeps over the surface to be cleaned at high velocity. The ionization device (7) produces positive as well as negative ions in the laminar air jet in order to neutralize the electrostatically-charged dust particles. An air suction nozzle (3) with a corresponding suction slot (4) is arranged at a short distance from the blowing slot (2) and is operatively associated with a flat brush (5) projecting from the appliance, which serves as a baffle, determining the distance of the appliance from the surface to be cleaned, limiting the gap enclosing the laminar air jet and, to a large extent preventing sucking-in of the surrounding air. This arrangement is designed as a portable and industrial cleaning appliance.

Abstract: A mop bucket insert for maintaining a portion of a cleaning liquid contained in a bucket free of suspended solids. A platform spaced above the bottom of the bucket and side walls coupled with the platform substantially segregated solids which have settled in the compartment formed between the bucket bottom and platform, preventing suspension of these solids when a mop agitates the liquid. The platform provides a surface against which a cleaning instrument may be applied to remove solids entrained in the fibrous elements of the mop.

Abstract: An anchor for use in vehicles to prevent movement of a floor mat relative to a floor covering in which the floor covering is partly noncarpeted. In one preferred embodiment the anchor has two sections and is disposed between a floor mat and a floor covering. The first section has upwardly extending projections for engaging the bottom of the floor mat and downwardly extending projections for engaging the carpet area of the floor covering. The second section has at least one smooth major surface and is made from a material having a high coefficient of friction. The smooth major surface abuttingly engages the noncarpet area of the floor covering. A second major surface which is located in the second section opposite the smooth side engages the bottom of the floor mat.

The holding heads each include a hollow hat and a spring member fixed inside the hollow hat, the central portion of the spring member being inwardly concave and having a set of slots radially extending to form a set of claws and an opening whose diameter is slightly smaller than the diameter of the shaft. Thus, the shaft penetrating through the opening is pressed and secured by the claws so as to prevent any withdrawal of the shaft from the opening.

Abstract: A hold open device a hinged door which is connected to a door frame by a pivot arm. The arm includes a follower which rides in an upper channel of the door. The hold open device includes a detent positioned between a cam part and a shock absorber and stop which secures the arm follower when the door is in its open position.

Abstract: The poultry stunner described herein comprises a poultry conveyor and an electrolyte bath below the conveyor and means for applying an electric potential between the conveyor and the bath so as to stun birds on the conveyor as their heads are passed through the bath. The electrolyte bath is continuously aerated and a drainage rack at the end of the basin recovers electrolyte that would otherwise be lost.
