  • Patent number: 4759241
Abstract: In a screw driver with a turning tool placed at the front end of a shank which is torsionally connected with a handle, the turning tool can be reliably prevented from slipping off the head of the screw to be turned by the fact that the turning tool is embraced by a jaw chuck with at least two holding jaws in the form of spring arms of a shifter collar which can be moved in the axial direction on the shank, the spring arms being spreadable in the radial direction against their inherent elasticity by means of butting faces of the shank, and fixable against each other by means of a cooperating radial locking gear which can be released by butting faces of the shank. The shifter collar is fixable against the shank by means of a cooperating axial locking gear, and is connected with a control element which can be moved in the axial direction against the shank, has a limited relative movability against the shifter collar, and is provided with butting faces releasing the axial locking gear.

  • Patent number: 4759243
Abstract: In a single point machining operation, such as metal cutting on a lathe, the precession angle of lobes on a rotating workpiece is determined by measuring the frequency and changing phase of the cutting vibrations, and the stability of the machining operation is monitored by comparing the lobe precession angle to a predetermined range of values within which regenerative chatter may occur. Stability of the machining operation is maintained and productivity is optimized by controlling the crossfeed to maintain the lobe precession angle close to but outside of the predetermined range of values.

  • Patent number: 4759246
Abstract: A tumbling hole punch consists of a serrated tube plunging straight through a film web into a hole in a backup roll. The serrated punch is mounted to an arm which is geared to the backup roll so that the punch remains in register with the hole in the roll. In order to keep the axis of the serrated punch aligned with the axis of the hole in the roll, the punch pivots relative to its arm, and the pivoting is controlled by a gear belt drive so that as the arm rotates the punch tumbles in the opposite direction, keeping its axis parallel with the hole axis.

  • Patent number: 4759247
Abstract: Coacting die cylinders with one cylinder having a cutting blade and the other cylinder an anvil surface which when rotating cooperate to cut a blank from a web of low density material. The blade and the anvil surface are tapered in opposite axial directions so that the clearance between them can be readily varied and adjusted by moving the cylinders axially relative to each other. Preferably, the cylinders each have a pair of cylindrical bearers which are in contact and rolling engagement with each other when the cylinders are operating to cut a web of material. The die cylinders are journaled in bearing assemblies carried by the cylinders and removably received in the stand to facilitate easy removal and installation of the die cylinders when desired.

  • Patent number: 4759248
Abstract: A bed knife that acts together with a cutting blade moved past it, particularly for granulating plastic strands, consisting of individual aligned sections of the same type that are fastened to a supporting beam and whose knife edge consists of a cutter material. Each section consists essentially of ceramic cutter material and extends over the areas of feed and delivery of the material to be cut of the cut material. The section is provided with a cutout running in the direction of the bed knife that is aligned with the cutouts of all of the sections and changes into an outer surface of the section as a throat in comparison with the corresponding dimension of the cutout, with the cutouts containing a continuous bar extending through several sections. The bar presses the section against the supporting beam by means of screws passing through the throat that penetrate into the bar, with sections being connected to one another positively by the bar.
