  • Patent number: 4766647
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed primarily for measuring the linear density of a sliver of fibrous strands (e.g. textile) as they are drawn through a trumpet on a processing machine. The measurement is made by detecting the naturally occurring acoustic emissions or signals generated by the frictional and compressive forces between the fibers and between the fibers and the wall of the trumpet as the sliver is drawn through the trumpet. The intensity of the acoustically emitted signal is proportional to the density of the sliver passing through the trumpet. These acoustic emissions are detected by a microphone which convert the acoustic signals to an electronic signal which is amplified and electronically processed to indicate the density of the sliver and may be used to control the textile machine and furnish diagnostic data.

  • Patent number: 4766687
Abstract: The present invention comprises a handgun having a frame, a trigger, a removable trigger guard mounted on the frame through a releasable latch mounted on the trigger guard and engageable with the frame wherein a spring mounted on the trigger guard urges (a) the latch to its frame engagement position and (b) urges the trigger to its at rest position. It is a feature of the invention that as the trigger is pulled to move it from its at rest position to its fire position the trigger guard latch arrangement is subjected to greater force thus increasing the force necessary to separate the frame and the guard and avoiding inadvertent detachment during recoil. It is also a feature of the invention that the rearward portion of the trigger guard is so shaped and configured to mate exactly with the handgun's grips, thus avoiding gaps between the grips and trigger guard which must occur in the use of conventionally shaped trigger guards, and which can pinch portions of the user's fingers.

  • Patent number: 4766693
Abstract: Conventional traps often catch animals by the leg rather than killing them outright. This trap utilizes two spring actuated jaws closing upon a base ring but with stops on the base ring maintaining the movable jaws slightly open when sprung so that an animal cannot be caught by the leg. The trip mechanism is such that it can be actuated by pressure upon any part of the pan thus releasing the jaws and killing the animal with a blow to the head or neck area. The spring mechanism is such that if large animals are accidentally caught by the foot, they are able to pull foot free.
