  • Patent number: 4831851
Abstract: A lock mechanism having a mechanical combination lock and an electronic lock, wherein the mechanical combination lock serves for effecting a fail safe entry in case of failure of the electronic lock. More specifically, the lock mechanism includes a mechanical combination lock having a bolt-retracting linkage which is tripped by inward movement of a dial into a first operative relationship with a driver on the drive spindle. An electronic latch prevents bolt retraction by this bolt-retracting linkage when in the first operative positive until the electronic latch has been operated. However, when the tumblers of the lock have been aligned and a gate bar enters the tumblers, the bolt-retraction linkage is caused to assume a second operative relationship with the driver so as to permit bolt retraction despite the latching effect of the electronic lock.

  • Patent number: 4831854
Abstract: The rolling mill for mechanical descaling of hot rolled steel is constructed according to the slidable roll process with reducing rolls so that a unform operation with different and/or changing shape steel strips can obtained. This is attained when the rolling mill has at least two rolls slidable in opposite directions whose body surfaces are constructed with S-shape contours positioned inversely to each other so that these contours compliment each other flawlessly in one certain axial relative position. When sliding the rolls in opposite directions in one case the contour is decreased in the center region of the steel strip and when slid in the opposite directions in the other case the contour is increased in the center region. Thus the rolls can be adjusted to fit a gently convex steel strip profile by axially sliding the rolls in opposite directions as also rolled strips with a thickness centrally reduced in comparison to that of the edge regions can by appropriate sliding of the rolls opposite each other.

  • Patent number: 4831856
Abstract: An apparatus for bending single or multiple stacked flat sections of finned heat exchanger coil into a predetermined configuration having one, two or three generally 90 degree bends. The coil is moved along a support table to a bending station by a gripper mechanism engaged with the rear end of the coil. A portion of the coil forward of the position to be bent is clamped against an anvil by a clamping pad. A hold-down assembly prevents another portion of the coil rearward of the bend portion from raising off the support table as the anvil and clamping pad are rotated by a supporting spindle to bend the coil to the desired angle. The gripper mechanism is accelerated linearly forwardly in coordinated movement with the rotational acceleration of the spindle to prevent distortion of the coil fins by crowding material into the bend. The gripper mechanism is moved linearly along the support table by a controlled ball screw drive mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4831868
Abstract: A vehicle-mounted electronic control unit such as an anti-lock brake control unit is connected to a testing device through two serial transmission lines for testing. Upon startup of the control unit, signals are exchanged therebetween. Only if the signal exchange is completed in a predetermined period of time, the control unit enters into a special operation mode for testing. Otherwise, it is controlled in an ordinary mode. In this test mode, the data in the control unit such as a wheel speed are sent to the testing device to be inputted in its test programs. The testing device then gives to the control unit various command signals produced according to its programs. The control unit then sends test signals in response to the command signals to actuators. Thus, when the control unit is in the test mode, the testing device can control the actuators by transmitting command signals to the control unit and thus can test the performance of not only the control unit but also the actuators from various angles.

  • Patent number: 4831881
Abstract: The autoclave cure process is the representative composite fabrication technique for high quality composite materials for the aerospace and defense industry application. After lay up and vacuum-bagging in a complicated sequence, the several composite material needed in autoclave curing are cured under controlled temperature and pressure. The autoclave curing, in which the total cure process requires at least 4-6 hours, is a very expensive process. Therefore, the determination of an optimal cure process for composite prepregs is very important for guaranteed quality as well as being important economically. Theoretical models cannot be proved because of the lack of experimental methods. The experimenter must run many batches of autoclave curing trial and error at the different curing temperatures and pressures to obtain a sufficient amount of data which can experimentally determine the optimal cure process.

  • Patent number: 4831887
Abstract: A device for automatically sampling liquids includes a reversible gas powered motor driving a reversible pump. There are included in lines supplying the driving gas to the motor control devices which cause the gas to drive the motor and the pump in one sense for a predetermined period of time to purge the pump and subsequently to drive the motor and the pump in the opposite sense to draw a sample of the liquid. The motor preferably has two inputs. During the initial period of time the driving gas is connected to the first input driving the pump in the first sense. Subsequently the control devices remove the supply from the first input and connect it to the second input driving the pump in the opposite sense for a predetermined period of time and then stopping the motor. The control device is then reset so that upon the following actuation of the motor it is driven again in the one sense.
