Patent number: H768Abstract: A ball or projectile for small caliber ammunition is disclosed. The projele is useful in training ammunition for the training of personnel on firing ranges having a limited area and a maximum range which is below the range of the standard service round for the weapon on which the training is conducted. The projectile has a body including an ogival forward section, a cylindrical center section, and a conical trailing section. A plurality of fins is mounted longitudinally on the conical trailing section for generating spin dampening torque to cause gyroscopic instability and thereby create high aerodynamic drag upon said projectile when fired from a weapon.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1989Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Roy W. Patent number: H770Abstract: A tracer training bullet which can be assembled into a conventional cartre case and fired in a conventional M2 machine gun is disclosed. The bullet consists of a main body of relatively low strength material which is segmented so that, if not restrained, it will bend under the centrifugal rotational force imparted to the segments by the spinning action of the projectile when fired. The bending of the projectile segments away from their central axis is ordinarily prevented by a retainer in the form of a spider. The spider is made of a relatively low temperature melting material, preferably aluminum, having a given thermal mass. The burn of the tracer material during the flight of the bullet toward a target weakens the retainer to the point of rupture after the bullet has travelled a given distance toward a target position. After the target position is passed, the securement member is destroyed by the high temperature burning action and the segments of the projectile bend or flex apart.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1989Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Roy W. Kline, Sung-Kwong Chung

Patent number: 4912805Abstract: A cylindrical power brush for a vacuum cleaner includes two types of bristle tufts. One type of bristle tuft is short and stiff for contacting and agitating a carpeted surface. The other type of bristle tuft is longer and softer for contacting a hard surface. In addition to the differences in length and bristle stiffness, the tufts for the hard surface contain substantially fewer bristles, whereby catching and rolling of carpet edges is avoided. One embodiment alternates types of bristle tufts in a row of bristle tufts. Another embodiment employs multiple rows of bristle tufts arranged such that a point on a surface being cleaned is contacted alternately by the two types of bristle tuft. Winding up of thread and hair on the axle of the rotating brush is avoided by overlapping annular extensions on a support wheel and a brush spindle. The brush support wheel is locked in place in the floor tool by a resilient locking tab integrally formed with one of the halves of the floor tool.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1988Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Charles Z. Patent number: 4912806Abstract: A door check is disclosed which comprises a first arm pivotally attached at one end thereof to a door which is able to be opened and closed as desired; a second arm pivotally attached at one end thereof to the first arm, the other end of the second arm being pivotally attached to a door frame for supporting the door in such a manner that the door is able to be opened and closed as desired; a driving force storing spring retained by either the first or second arm and biased in response to the pivotal motion of the door in the opening direction so as to store force for driving the door in the closing direction; a gear train for transmitting the rotation of the door when opened to said driving force storing spring and also transmitting the driving force stored in the driving force storing spring to the door; a brake rotated by means of the force released from the driving force storing spring to apply a brake force to the force; and a speed increasing gear train coupled at its starting end to said driving force sType: GrantFiled: February 19, 1988Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Sankyo Seiki SeisakushoInventors: Makoto Orii, Katsuhiko Hayashi

Patent number: 4912807Abstract: A sliding door/window track assembly particularly suited for use with thick glass. Fastenable directly to both the upper and lower edges of such glass, the assembly includes a frame member made of plastic. The frame member is suspended between a pair of guides formed within a track member. A plurality of keys, which ride in slots formed in the sides of the guides, are employed not only to suspend the frame member but also to lock it into the track member for security. Moreover, the track member also allows a large amount of foreign material to be deposited along the track before any interference with operation occurs. Further, the track assembly can be fabricated so that only plastic material rubs on plastic when the door/window is slid, thereby allowing for free movement with little friction.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1989Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Inventors: Clark R. Patent number: 4912808Abstract: An assist strap is provided for attachment within spaced apart apertures on a vehicle body. The strap has mounting portions at the end thereof which space the strap from the vehicle body. Attaching legs are provided on each of the mounting portions and are adapted to extend through the apertures, each of the attaching legs having a foot at the end thereof projecting toward the opposite end of the strap so that the space between the feet is less than the spacing between the spaced apart apertures. The strap is constructed to permit flexure of the strap inwardly toward the body so that the feet of the attaching legs spread further apart than the spaced apart apertures of the body to permit insertion of the feet into the apertures whereby subsequent return of the strap to the normal spaced relation from the body causes the feet to engage with the body and thereby attach the assist strap on the body without the need for fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1989Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Jan B. Patent number: 4912809Abstract: The present invention comprises an improved mounting device incorporating two set screws acting upon two separate axially spaced-apart conical portions of an anchor bolt to produce a lateral "wedging" force which anchors the door handle securely in place against the door stile. The anchor bolt is secured in a hole drilled in the door by turning the threaded shank of the bolt into an internally-threaded rivet set into the hole. A door pull is inserted over the anchor bolt through a bore in the door pull, and a counter bore fits over the flange of the internally-threaded rivet to permit the door pull to bear directly against the door stile. As the two set screws are tightened into threaded holes in the bottom of the door pull, the beveled tips of the set screws bear on the conical surfaces of the anchor bolt, creating a lateral wedging force which moves the door pull toward and against the door stile.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1985Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: Kawneer Company, Inc.Inventor: Nicholas G.
