  • Patent number: 4989563
Abstract: An auxiliary air amount control system for an internal combustion engine has an auxiliary air passage bypassing a throttle valve arranged within the intake pipe of the engine, and a control valve controlling the amount of auxiliary air supplied to the engine through the auxiliary air passage by varying the opening of the passage. The opening of the control valve is set in response to the opening of the throttle valve, and is decreased progressively from the set value as an initial value when the engine is in a predetermined decelerating condition. The set control valve opening is varied to a larger value as the reduction ratio assumed by a transmission connected to the engine is larger. The minimum value of the throttle valve opening at which the control valve opening can be set to a value larger than zero is varied to a smaller value as the reduction ratio is larger. The rate at which the control valve opening is progressively decreased is varied to a smaller value as the reduction ratio is larger.

  • Patent number: 4989564
Abstract: A valve assembly of novel configuration is associated with the main air induction passage of a fuel-injected, spark-ignited, automotive internal combustion engine for the purpose of regulating the idle air flow. The valve assembly has an inlet connected upstream of the throttle. A pintle controls the restriction that the valve assembly imposes on the idle air flow. The valve assembly is controlled by the engine computer selectively energizing a solenoid on the assembly. The solenoid armature controls flow through another flow path of the valve assembly that parallels the idle air flow path. A movable internal wall divides the valve assembly's body into two variable volume chambers. One chamber forms part of the idle air bypass while the other forms part of the parallel flow path. The one chamber is essentially at manifold vacuum while the other is regulated by a bleed valve and two orifices in the parallel flow path. Positioning of the movable wall positions the pintle.

  • Patent number: 4989565
Abstract: A rotational speed controller for an internal combustion engine of a vehicle has an air bypass passage which bypasses the throttle valve of the engine. A solenoid valve controls the air intake rate through the bypass passage. The output current of a generator which is driven by the engine is monitored by a current sensor. Based on the current which is sensed, an air intake adjuster calculates the change in the air intake rate through the bypass passage necessary to compensate for the load exerted on the engine by the generator so as to maintain a constant engine speed. The solenoid valve is controlled to change the air intake rate through the bypass passage by the amount calculated by the air intake adjuster. The change in the air intake rate can be calculated on the basis of the level of the generator current and/or the rate of change of the generator current.

Abstract: A power unit archery bow wherein a frame member is secured with respect to a first end of at least one limb member by a spring-actuated power unit. A bow string secured to a second distal end of the limb member is adapted to engage an arrow and to be drawn rearwardly by a user. Retraction of the bow string causes the limb member to rotate rearwardly, whereby the entire length of the limb member is utilized to load the spring member of the power unit. Upon release of the bow string, the energy stored by the power unit spring is instantaneously released, being transmitted to the limb member to rotate the limb member to its original position so as to straighten the bow string and propel the arrow forwardly. Because the entire length of the limb member provides leverage to the power unit, the requisite pull force for the bow is greatly reduced.

  • Patent number: 4989589
Abstract: A device for massaging extremities of the body, such as legs, and for activating fluid flows, said device consisting of consecutive, annular, mutually connected elastic jacket bags disposed to encircle the leg and in which pressures can be produced with the aid of a pressure source and a fluid, which cause a massaging effect. The drawback encumbering devices of this type known in prior art is that control of the pressure has been arranged by means of very complicated valve systems. The intervening space defined between the jacket bags of the present invention and the foot have also been connected to the pressure source and can therefore be pressurized, whereby the jacket bags are with the aid of the pressure in the intervening space simultaneously depletable of pressure and further, after the jacket bags have been pressurized, the intervening space is, with the aid of the pressure in the jacket bags, depletable of pressure.

  • Patent number: 4989602
Abstract: A non-programmable automatic implantable cardioverter/defibrillator (AICD) capable of providing programmable thresholds for triggering high energy stimulation pulse(s) from the AICD is coupled to an implantable programmable pacemaker which preferably includes bradycardia support and/or tachycardia support using low enery output pulses. When the low energy antitachycardia pulse(s) from the pacemaker fail to terminate a tachycardia, or whenever other various thresholds, as sensed by programmable sensing circuits of the pacemaker, are exceeded, the high enery pulses from the AICD may be selectively invoked by an AICD trigger circuit included within the pacemaker. Coupling between the AICD and pacemaker is by either a direct electrical connection, or by an indirect connection, such as through the use of narrow pulse sequences generated by the pacemaker which are of insufficient energy to invoke a cardiac response but are of sufficient energy to be sensed by the AICD sensing circuits.
