Abstract: The present invention relates to a plurality of manufactured cigarettes adapted to be arranged in a packaged configuration thereof. Each of the cigarettes include a rod of smokable material contained in a circumscribing paper wrapper (i.e., a "smokable rod"). Each of the smokable rods have a plurality of substantially flat sides and have at least one crease longitudinally extending substantially along the total length thereof. Preferably, each of the smokable rods includes a pair of creases longitudinally extending substantially along the length thereof to define one of the flat sides. The present invention also relates to a method of manufacturing cigarettes adapted to be arranged in a packaged configuration. The method includes providing a plurality of cigarettes including a smokable rod having a substantially circular or oval cross-section, and applying a compressive pressure to the smokable rods to provide a plurality of flat sides and at least one crease in the smokable rod.

The coating composition provides improved properties, including increased chemical etch resistance.
Abstract: To determine the speed of propagation of a signal in a medium, signals with known harmonic components are transmitted from one or more sources within the region. One or more detectors within the region measure wave amplitude over time at so as to detect the signals transmitted at the sources and so as to identify the source from which each detected signal was transmitted. Beta bar coefficients are calculated so as to maximize the correlation of the calculated matched field processing power and the measured matched field processing power for each source-detector combination. Beta coefficients for all cells through which a path from a source to a detector passes are calculated by representing all positions in the region by cell number i and position coordinate z, the region being partitioned into M discrete, indexed cells C.sub.

Abstract: Apparatus for loading and unloading objects including a first carriage; apparatus for moving the first carriage back and forth in a straight line in a first plane between a first position and second position; a second carriage; and apparatus for moving the second carriage back and forth between the first position and the second position such that, when the first carriage is in the first position, the second carriage is in the second position and, as the first carriage moves to the second position, the second carriage moves out of the first plane, then back into the first plane and into the first position.
Abstract: A feeder unit for animals, particularly pigs, provides feed in either wet or dry condition and comprises a trough and a shelf positioned above the trough with a water supply duct beneath the shelf for directing water through valves actuated by the pig into the trough. A hopper positioned above the shelf directs material continuously onto the shelf to be retained on the shelf by the repose angle. The pig can thus either eat directly from the shelf the feed in dry condition or can brush the feed into the trough for mixing with water and eating in wet condition.

Abstract: A slice selection gradient magnetic field used in a pulse sequence for generating a spin echo signal is applied in such a fashion that its polarity at the time of a 90.degree. pulse becomes opposite to the one at the time of 180.degree. pulse, in order to expand a dynamic range of blood flow speed measurement. When the blood flow speed contains a component in a slice vertical direction, the gradient magnetic field in the slice vertical direction is adjusted so that the phase changes of two sets of flow encoded pulses contained in the slice vertical direction are opposite to each other. The flow speed in the direction of the readout gradient magnetic field, which is a lateral direction of the slice plane, is purely measured by canceling influences of the flow in the slice vertical direction.
Abstract: A self-contained cellular emergency roadside call box is disclosed without the use of external telephone lines. The call box is solar powered with battery storage and comprises a controller coupled to a cellular transceiver. The controller is also coupled to a solar array and battery which is recharged through the controller. The call box communicates through a radio-telephone link established by the cellular transceiver to a cellular telecommunication system. The cellular telecommunication system includes a call site controller and mobile telephone switching terminal. Each call box comprises a plurality of status subcircuits for monitoring conditions such as battery condition and transmitter status. The call box communication and the status are processed by a micro processor which generates appropriate commands required by the cellular transceiver. Information can be transmitted bidirectionally between each of the call boxes and the communication applications processor.

Abstract: In a continuous process for the manufacture of aromatic polyesters by polycondensation of mono- or multi-nuclear substituted or unsubstituted diphenols, with halides of aromatic dicarboxylic acids according to the two-phase interface polycondensation process, the first step is to produce continuously a fine pre-emulsion with an organic solvent and from the aqueous phase, consisting of a solution obtained from the diphenols, of an alkaline hydroxide in order to form the diphenates and possibly of a phase transfer catalyst in water or in a mixture of water and of an organic solubilizer. This pre-emulsion is fed in quantities to a dispersion unit jointly with the organo-liquid phase forming the acid chloride solution.
