  • Patent number: 5274904
Abstract: Electromagnetic coils of laminated, foil construction are suitable for use in guideways of magnetically-levitated-vehicle systems. The coils are each constructed by applying a double-sided adhesive tape of insulating material to both surfaces of a continuous ribbon of conductive foil to form a tri-layer laminate or matrix. Then, the tri-layer matrix is shaped into a coil of a desired configuration. The coil loops or turns are formed by folding the tri-layer matrix along diagonal fold lines in selected bend regions so as to transpose the top and bottom surfaces of the laminate on either side of the folds, and bring the surface interior of the folds into contact. The insulating material in the laminate is omitted from the interior bend regions, so that, after folds have been made, the interior surfaces in those regions are exposed foil which electrically contact one-another.

  • Patent number: 5274930
Abstract: A method and apparatus for drying of a cellulosic fibrous structure having constant basis weight and/or density or multiple regions varying in basis weight and/or density. Such a cellulosic fibrous structure may have a nonuniform moisture distribution prior to drying by the disclosed method and apparatus. An equally or more uniform moisture distribution is achieved by providing a micropore medium in the air flow path which has a greater flow resistance than the interstices between the fibers in the cellulosic fibrous structure web. The micropore medium is the limiting orifice in the air flow used in the drying process. The micropore medium may be executed in a laminate of plural laminae, each of successively increasing or decreasing pore size. This arrangement provides the advantage that minimal sagging or deformation of each lamina into the next coarser lamina occurs and lateral air flow between the micropore medium and the cellulosic fibrous structure is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5274943
Abstract: An electrically powered indicating device for use in conjunction with a fishing rod is disclosed. The device indicates when the end of the fishing rod remote to the handle is pulled downwardly and distinguishes between a fish nibbling at the hook on the fishing line and a fish caught on the hook of the fishing line. The device comprises a protective housing, an electrical power source, such as a battery, an electrically powered indicating means such as a light emitting diode or buzzer, and a non-positive contact switch means such as a mercury tilt switch, all electrically connected in series with one another. When the device becomes tilted past a certain orientation, the non-positive switch means becomes closed, thus turning on the indicating means. When the non-positive contact switch means is closed and the device is moved abruptly or vigorously, the non-positive contact switch means becomes opened and closed intermittently.

  • Patent number: 5274944
Abstract: This invention relates to an ice fishing tip-up and more particularly to a means for activating an audible or visual indicator to alert a fisherman when a fish has engaged a hook of the ice fishing tip-up. The device is comprised of a switch which interconnects the audible or visual indicator to a power source. The switch has terminals normally biased toward a closed position whereby a first terminal is in contact with a second terminal. An insulator is placed between the terminals of the switch such that the terminals are not in contact. The insulator is then removed from between the terminals in response to an increase in tension in the fishing line when a fish strikes the hook. The removal of the insulator from between terminals causes the switch to close, thereby activating the audible or visual signal to alert the fisherman.

  • Patent number: 5274946
Abstract: An improved, two-part weedguard for a fish hook having as one part a U-shaped point guard (10) fashioned from a light-weight, rigid material. The point guard has a longitudinal channel (14) on its upper side in which the fish hook point is cradled. In addition, this channel is of sufficient volume and length so as to completely envelope the hook point, thereby protecting the hook point from fouling on weeds, cover, and other obstacles. The second part consists of a guard mount (22) fashioned from a single strand of resilient steel wire bent upon itself, forming a loop (24), two parallel arms (26) and two terminal ends (28). In addition, the mount has a right angle ward bend in the loop-bearing end. The guard and mount are joined by threading the terminal ends of the arms through two longitudinal through-holes (20) in the channel walls until the guard comes to rest on the ward bend and the loop.

  • Patent number: 5274947
Abstract: A novel bait retainer for fish hooks is disclosed which includes a wire type helix with at least one end of the retainer left open and having a sharp point. The body of the retainer is an elongated cylindrical configuration with a diameter and length which corresponds with the type of bait and size of hook with which the retainer is to be used. The retainer is positioned slidably over the shank of the hook with the open end positioned nearest the curved portion of the hook. In use the bait is inserted over the end of the hook and is moved to the shank portion. The retainer is rotatably threaded through the mass or body of the bait and the retainer and bait is then moved backward around the curved portion of the hook until the bait is properly positioned with respect to the barbed end of the hook. In this way the retainer supports the bait and holds the bait in the proper position to catch fish.
