  • Patent number: 5274849
Abstract: A firefighter's garment as disclosed herein may be a coat or trousers or a vest. The garment has an outer layer, an intermediate layer, and an inner layer. A spacer element or elements are positioned between two of the layers of the garment. The spacer element or elements in the firefighter's garment establish and maintain an air space or air spaces between the layers of the garment, even when localized pressure or weight is applied to portions of the garment. Thus, the firefighter's garment has excellent heat insulation qualities without being heavy and/or bulky. Thus, a firefighter wearing the garment is continually protected and is subject to minimum stress and is able to work more effectively than a firefighter wearing a firefighter's conventional garment.

  • Patent number: 5274851
Abstract: A protective garment incorporating radiation resistant materials has a resilient support for conforming to and supporting the weight of the garment across the back of the wearer. The support is a wide resilient band having a first end connected at a first interior side seam and a second end connected at a second interior side seam for extending across an interior back panel surface of the garment. When stretched across the back, the garment weight is distributed uniformly across the back to reduce fatigue. Alternatively, the garment may have a pair of resilient straps which extend from the shoulder seams and sides of a front panel, across the back to the front of the garment. By providing resilient back panels which extend from the shoulders, the front panel weight is distributed over the shoulders and back. Utilizing such a protective garment reduces upper body fatigue for those required to wear such garments.

  • Patent number: 5274860
Abstract: A water conserving shower assembly utilizes a novel distributor connected to a domestic water line carrying hot and cold water combined in a predetermined ratio. A piping system carries water from the distributor and terminates in a shower head. The piping system is provided with a valve assembly which incorporates an on-off valve for interrupting the flow of water to the shower head, a flow metering device operated solely by means of a unique key, and a dump valve for bypassing the on-off valve and diverting water from the shower head while the shower temperature is coming to equilibrium at the temperature established by the hot-cold water ratio. • Patent number: 5274861
Abstract: A gray water recycling system directs gray water from a fixture to either a sewer line or a holding tank. The system includes a drain valve assembly that is controlled at the fixture and that selects between allowing water to flow into a drain pipe and then into the sewer line or allowing water to flow into a holding tank line to a pump and then into the holding tank. The drain valve assembly can be used with conventional fixtures such as sinks, tubs, and showers, using many standard fittings that are readily available. In an embodiment especially useful with sinks having a plug that is raised and lowered, the solid plug of a conventional sink is replaced with a hollow tube that communicates with the holding tank line. In another embodiment especially suited for showers and sinks with rotatable catch cups, the valve assembly includes two, nested valve bodies that rotate relative to each other to align valve body ports that alternately direct water into the sewer line or into the holding tank line.

  • Patent number: 5274865
Abstract: One aspect of the invention is a cooling pillow comprising a flexible pouch and thermal transfer fluid composition hermetically filled in the pouch. A second aspect of the invention is a cooling device which comprises a pad having a flexible pouch and a thermal transfer fluid composition hermetically filled in the pouch, and means for holding the pad therewith to bring the pad in contact with the human body. The fluid composition comprises a mixture of fine particles of hard or graphitic carbon having good thermal conductivity and water. Sodium chloride, surface active agents, bactericides and preservatives may be further added to the composition. Since the carbon particles have good thermal conductivity, the fluid readily reaches a temperature close to ambient temperatures and can gently cool the human body. Long use allows the body to be continuously cooled down to a temperature close to the ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 5274866
Abstract: Laboratory-scale dyeing of samples of lengths of material must correspond to the continuous process conditions as executed in practice in order to obtain comparable dyeing results. For this purpose, the provision is made of joining the sample piece into a tube and of pushing same onto a roll which revolves continuously during dyestuff application as well as during the steaming procedure. For performing this laboratory dyeing-steaming cycle, it is advantageous to arrange the dyeing roll on a rocking lever pivotable from i dyeing position below the dyestuff applicator into a steaming position below a steamer hood. The steamer hood, for steaming purposes, need merely be moved downwards to immerse the dyeing roller in total into the steam atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 5274867
Abstract: A hydraulically operated edge-of-dock dock leveler including a deck plate having its rear edge hinged to the dock and an extension lip is hinged to the front edge of the deck plate. In the storage position the deck plate is located in a generally horizontal position and the lip hangs downwardly in a generally vertical pendant position. A hydraulic cylinder unit interconnects the frame of the dock leveler with the deck plate and extension of the cylinder unit acts to move the deck plate to a generally vertical position where a latch that is pivotally connected to the underside of the lip engages an abutment on the frame to lock the deck plate in the vertical position. Retraction of the cylinder unit will pull the deck plate down and the linkage between the deck plate, the lip and the frame enables the outer edge of the lip to move in a generally curved path into engagement with the bed of a carrier.

  • Patent number: 5274877
Abstract: The present invention is a unique semi-automatic mop wringer. The mop wringer comprises a hollow housing vertically movably supported on a supporting structure by a suspension mechanism. The housing is engaged with the supporting structure through a rack-and-gear mechanism, so that a downward motion of the housing can be transmitted into the rotation of crank members which in turn drive a wringer roller to squeeze the mop against a wringer plate mounted inside the housing. A user can use the present invention mop wringer to wring a mop by placing the mop inside the housing, holding the mop holder and applying a downward force. The downward motion of the housing causes the wringer roller to move in a circular path to squeeze the mop against the wringer plate. When the user withdraws the downward force, the housing moves back upwardly to allow the user to repeat the process.

Abstract: An automatic drawing-in machine separates warp yarn ends from one another and presents a separated end portion to a pick-up location in alignment with harness components such as a heald and/or a drop wire and/or a reed gap which have themselves been brought to their intended drawing-in positions by different, separately operated systems. Then a drawing-in member engages the yarn end and pulls it through the designed harness component(s). The drawing-in machine (SE) contains a drawing-in member, an arrangement for manipulating the individual harness elements, and a control stage (SM) for controlling the various functions of the drawing-in machine. The latter is composed of modules (PM, SM, XM, AM) for the various functions. The individual modules forming functional, independent units and being connected to one another via interfaces. The modules are controlled by a higher-level computer of the control stage (SM), via which the cross connections between the individual modules also run.
