  • Patent number: 5282473
Abstract: An infrared gas analyzer implementing an optically stabilized detector in a sidestream configuration. In order to reduce the pneumatic sampling volume, an "optical funnel" or collimator is used to resize the optical aperture of a multi-channel optically stabilized detector without compromising signal strength. The smaller pneumatic volume is desirable in order to minimize the time required for a gas wavefront from the sample cell to traverse the optical aperture, thereby minimizing pneumatic response time. The geometry of the sample cell of the invention is also streamlined so that sharp corners or transitions which might induce turbulent gas flow are eliminated. The sample cell of the invention thus promotes smooth, laminar flow of aspirated respiratory gases through the optical aperture so as to preserve the temporal relationship of gas concentration wavefronts within the gas stream and to thereby allow the analyzer to exhibit a faster pneumatic response.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for cooling gases using a circulating fluidized bed technique, wherein gas is conveyed through a fluidized bed formed by circulating fluidized bed material so that part of the circulating fluidized bed material is driven along with the gas flow and whereby the circulating fluidized bed material entrained in the gas flow is separated from the gas flow and returned into the fluidized bed, and wherein at least part of the cooling is carried out by cooling the circulating fluidized bed material stream to be returned. The process is characterized in that substantially the entire cooling is realized by cooling the circulating fluidized bed material stream to be returned in a heat exchanger (10) separate from the gas flow duct, in which event the cooling of the gas stream is effected by means of the circulating fluidized bed material stream returned to the fluidized bed and having a temperature lower than that of the fluidized bed.

Abstract: In a heat exchange system such as an absorption refrigerator, a heat exchange element is disposed in at least one of a heat exchanger, a condenser, an evaporator, an absorber and a low-temperature regenerator. The heat exchange element has a bellows-fin formed into a wave-like shape by consecutively bending a thin plate, and sealing plate sealingly attached onto ends of the bellows-fin, for defining adjacent two chambers alternately in the heat exchanger or the like. The heating fluid and the fluid to be heated are heat-exchanged to each other through the thin plate of the bellows-fin defining respective chambers, so that contact area is increased to thereby extremely improve the heat exchange efficiency. Further, the heat exchange element can be manufactured with ease, to thereby decrease the production cost.

Abstract: A process and apparatus are provided to enhance the recovery of petroleum from onshore and offshore reservoirs. The process includes the simultaneous stimulation of the formation by elastic sound waves, created by a sonic source installed at the oil well so that the elastic sonic waves which are superimposed reduce the adherence forces in the layer between oil/water and the rock formation, and by the oscillating electrical stimulation of the same layer, as from the same wells subject to sonic treatment. The electricity heats the formation by using resistive heating, and thus increases the pressure, thus eliminating the surface tensions between the faces of the fluid as a consequence of the oscillatory action of the ions in the surfaces of the fluid and in addition, reducing the viscosity of the fluids.
