Abstract: A display sign of box-like construction has internal illumination and a face comprising a transparent or translucent sheet with advertising material applied thereto. The face is tensioned by means of a locking element to which the face is attached and which is then forced into the gap between two surfaces. The element is serrated and one of said surfaces includes a detent which co-operates with the serrations. The pull exerted by the tensioned face pulls the locking element into a position in which it lies skew to said surfaces and bears on both said surfaces with the detent between adjacent serrations. There can be one or more locking elements along each edge of the sheet, or one or more locking elements along one edge of the sheet only. The sheet can be tensioned by locking elements acting in two directions which are at right angles to one another.

  • Patent number: 5301465
Abstract: A planter grid wall is formed by intersecting groups of metal strips, joined together and spaced apart to form a network of open cells. The strips have equal dimensions, with inner edges defining the open ended chamber of the planter, and outer edges defining the planter periphery. The distances between the inner and outer edges is at least one half the size of the cells to facilitate retention of growing medium within the planter. Yet the open cells permit the process steps of aeration of the planting medium and "air pruning" of roots that grow into the cells and out into contact with the surrounding ambient atmosphere. The inner edges also include abrupt sharp corners that engage and mechanically prune the roots, thereby avoiding spiral root growth and encouraging growth of short new root ends. A reflective, insulative coating on the strips aid heating of the plant medium by reflection and prevent conductive and convective heat loss through the strips at night time or in cold conditions.

  • Patent number: 5301493
Abstract: A steplessly adjustable pre-stretched film wrapping apparatus comprises a downstream film roller and an upstream film roller connected therebetween with an adjustable power transmission system to unwind and stretch a film web from a film roll. The power transmission system comprises a motor generating a rotational motion to drive a main shaft. A pair of mating bevel gears are used to transmit the rotation to the downstream film roller and a disk member which is secured on the upstream film roller and is driven by the main shaft via an active roller coaxially rotatable with the main shaft and an idle roller interposed between the active roller and the disk member to rotate the upstream film roller. The idle roller is contactingly rolling on a side of the disk member to be rotatably in an orthogonal way and thus defining a distance from the center of the disk member which determines the speed ratio therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5301494
Abstract: A recharging system for a battery operated tool such as a lawn mower. A slidable cover is used which is movable between an open position and a closed position. The slidable cover alternately exposes a receptacle adapted to receive a removable fuse key and an electrical connector adapted to receive an electrical power cord. The receptacle and the electrical connector are longitudinally aligned with the cover so that for the cover to move to the open position and expose the electrical connector, the fuse key must be removed. The receptacle is electrically connected in series with an activation switch, the battery and the electric motor to form a motor circuit. When the fuse key is removed to expose the electrical connector, the motor circuit is broken which prevents the electric motor from being activated whether or not the activation switch is engaged.

Abstract: A unidirectional drum roller for a baler of large cylindrical bales. A plurality of ramped steps extend longitudinally along the periphery of a substantially cylindrical drum. Each ramped step includes a steeply inclined leading edge portion and a gradually inclined following portion. The unidirectional construction provides a drum roller which has aggressive feeding action but allows a counter-rotating forming bale to slip past in the non-driven direction. The ramped steps are formed from a single sheet of material by die stamping so that there are no crevices or interstices on the drum roller to trap crop material and the drum roller is essentially self-cleaning.

  • Patent number: 5301496
Abstract: A position locking mechanism for a windrow inverter having a wing draper attachment mounted on the frame of the windrow inverter on the opposing side of the transverse cross conveyor from the discharge chute and being manually movable between a horizontal operative position and a vertical transport position is disclosed wherein the wing extension is latched automatically when raised to the transport position. A rod connected to the pivotally movable wing extension is telescopically received within a bracket mounted to the frame of the windrow inverter and is appropriate notched and biased into engagement for fixing the wing extension when placed in both the operative and transport positions. A concentric compression spring mounted on the rod reduces the effort required to lift the wing extension into a raised transport position. A set of elastomeric bumpers requires the wing extension to be forced into the operative position to be latched.
