  • Patent number: 5312048
Abstract: A nozzle including a tubular nozzle body forming a centrally located liquid flow path, the body having an inlet end and an outlet end. Mounted centrally in the body within the flow path is a pressure-regulating mechanism including an axially located dual-pressure baffle. The baffle is located at the outlet end and forms a nozzle gap with a throat surface of the body. During operation, a spring biases the baffle to close the gap and the liquid pressure on the baffle operates to open the gap. Adjustably mounted on the baffle is a shield which is movable relative to the baffle between a normal pressure position and a low pressure position. In the normal pressure position, the shield forms a gap size appropriate for a normal supply pressure. In the low pressure position, the shield forms a gap having an increased size appropriate for a supply pressure which is substantially less than the normal supply pressure.

  • Patent number: 5312050
Abstract: An electromagnetic fuel injector for use in an internal combustion engine has a center pole piece with an axially extending bore which slidingly accepts an adjusting pin therein. The adjusting pin has a first end portion for engagement with the armature return spring of the injector. Axial translation of the adjusting pin, relative to the center pole piece will vary the compression on the spring, the seating load on the armature valve and, as such, the dynamic flow characteristic of the injector. The adjusting pin further has means for engaging the center pole piece to rotate the piece which is threadingly engaged within the injector housing. Rotation of the threaded piece relative to the housing varies the armature/valve travel and, as such, the static flow characteristic of the injector.

  • Patent number: 5312088
Abstract: An improved scissors jack which has a lead screw that does not extend beyond the confines of the jack when the jack is in the partially raised position so as to reduce the space required for storing the jack. A hollow member is formed with a slot in which the extension of the threaded screw is received so that the end of the screw can slide in the slot when the jack is in the unloaded position to allow the jack to be raised to a mid height condition for storage. Under use, the extending portion of the screw moves to the end of the slot in the hollow member so as to apply tension to the lead screw to thus raise and lower the jack as the lead screw is rotated.A modified form of the invention utilizes an extended hollow trunion which prevents the end of the lead screw from extending beyond the confines of the trunion and a further modification provides for pivotally connecting two portions of the lead screw so that the jack can be moved to a stored condition.

  • Patent number: 5312093
Abstract: A vibration isolator has four fluid filled variable volume load bearing chambers, with two arranged on one side of a core and the other two on the other side. The core and chambers are contained within a frame, with the chambers extending between the core and the frame, so that vibrating the core axially compresses or extends the chambers. Diagonally opposite pairs of chambers are each connected with a separate fluid track, and the two fluid tracks may be tuned to have different resonant frequencies or the same resonant frequency. The chambers are defined by elastomeric bodies which may be reinforced using a tubular shaped reinforcing element adjacent to the chamber, to help contain the pressures within the chamber without materially increasing the compression strength of the elastomeric bodies.
