  • Patent number: 5325656
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, a speed changing device located between the drum and spindle drives of a cotton picker row unit provides a variable ratio spindle-to-drum speed so that ground and spindle speed can be optimized to match field conditions. An automatic transmission with one or more shift points provides a plurality of gear ratio combinations to optimize spindle speed while ideal harvester ground speed for the prevailing crop conditions is maintained. Shift point selection provides downshifting when the spindle speed begins to exceed the desired maximum RPM and upshifting when the speed drops below a minimum RPM. Alternatively, a compact idler gear arrangement located between the drum and spindle drives on the row unit is shiftable to change the ratio of spindle speed to drum speed without affecting drum speed to ground speed synchronization. In another embodiment of the invention, variable ratio between the drum and spindle drives is provided by introducing an independent spindle drive train.

  • Patent number: 5325663
Abstract: An engine controller executes the feedback control of an amount of the fuel injected, such that an air-fuel ratio (A/F) of the exhaust gas approaches a theoretical ratio. The amount of the fuel injected is as a function of a changeable feedback correction factor (FAF). When the engine is in a predetermined condition in which the engine controller interrupts the feedback control, a secondary air supplier supplies secondary air from an intake passage to an exhaust passage, and changes the A/F ratio of the exhaust gas. Furthermore, when the engine controller executes the feedback control operation, the secondary air is temporarily supplied to the exhaust passage, for the purpose of diagnosis of the supplier. The diagnostic system detects a first feedback correction factor before the secondary air is supplied, and a second feedback correction factor after the secondary air has been supplied, and calculates a deviation value therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5325672
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the purification of natural gas in which the reduction of the nitrogen content of a natural gas stream is achieved by a combination of absorption, purification, flashing, and reflux steps. More specifically, the process achieves the rejection of inert components such as nitrogen from natural gas without operating in the cryogenic temperature range. The process uses a lean solvent to absorb the non-rejected components in a recovery zone of an absorber and uses a portion of the off-gas from the flashing zone to purify the rich solvent in a purification zone of the absorber. In a further embodiment, solvent entrained in off-gases from low and medium pressure flash zones is recovered in a high pressure flash zone by washing the off-gases with recovered lean solvent.

  • Patent number: 5325677
Abstract: A fabric washing machine includes a container to receive fabrics and washing fluid. An SRM is operatively connected to oscillate and rotate the container. Ribs formed on the center post of the container agitate the fabrics and fluid as the container is oscillated. Just prior to a spin extraction operation the container is oscillated with an asymmetric pattern that travels further in one direction than in the other. To minimize wrapping of the fabrics about the center post the asymmetric pattern is periodically reversed. Also, just prior to the spin operation the motor is operated at a constant torque and the time to accelerate the container from one speed to a higher speed is measured one or more times. The inertia of the load, and thus the size of the fabric load, is calculated from the time measurements. The motor then is operated at a constant torque to accelerate the container from a threshold speed for a predetermined period of time and the final speed of the container is measured.

Abstract: The absorber has four concentric helical conduits in a housing. A dummy tube is arranged in the housing. The weak coolant solution is conducted in four partial flows through four supply lines to the helical conduits. The profiles of the tube of the helical conduits are of flat oval construction. To ensure that the weak solution is uniformly distributed, on the other hand the individual coils of the helical conduits form a gap in which the solution collects, is conducted downward and redistributed. The heat generated in the absorber is dissipated by a liquid in a secondary system which flows inside the helical conduits.

  • Patent number: 5325685
Abstract: A portable auxiliary door lock includes a lock cylinder slidable upon a bar having toothed edges to engage the locking means within the cylinder. The device differs from such locks for sliding panels, as it provides for temporary attachment between the edge of an arcuately hinged door and the adjacent door jamb to secure the door when it is closed. One end of the bar is bent at a 90 degree angle to insert into the latch recess of the striker plate. However, rather than using the lock cylinder to abut against the door and thereby at least partially blocking access to the lock cylinder for actuation due to the adjacent door knob assembly, the cylinder faces away from the knob assembly and an additional stop plate is used to retain the door. Other improvements are provided, such as adjustment for the spacing between the door and the jamb and additional security to preclude the forced removal of the lock cylinder from the bar.

  • Patent number: 5325692
Abstract: A method of controlling a transverse shape of a strip rolled by a rolling mill having a plurality of shape correcting devices, the method including the steps of detecting a change in a strip rolling force, and a tension distribution of the rolled strip in the width direction. Based on the detected tension distribution, a strain distribution of the rolled strip is calculated, and the calculated strain distribution is used to calculate a shape parameter which represents a shape error of the rolled strip. Based on the detected change in the rolling force and the calculated shape parameter, disturbance values of the rolling mill which should be zeroed by the shape correcting devices are estimated so as to offset a delay in the detection of the tension distribution which is reflected on the shape parameter. The shape correcting devices are controlled according to the estimated disturbance values, without an influence of the delay in the detection of the tension distribution.

Abstract: Long products are hot rolled and sized by being subjected to progressively diminishing area reductions in a succession of at least three mechanically interconnected two roll passes driven by a common mill drive. The area reductions are achieved by imparting a first cross sectional configuration to the products rolled in the first roll pass, and by imparting a different second cross sectional configuration to the products being rolled in each of the second and third roll passes. A wide range of product sizes is accommodated by selectively adjusting the speeds at which each of the roll passes is driven by the common mill drive in order to vary the drive speed ratios between successive roll passes.
