  • Patent number: 5341593
Abstract: A small spring steel stake is used to support a large tomato plant. The plant is held close to the stake so that the stake supports the plant with its weight pulling substantially straight down along the axis of the stake. Rings are optionally used to support only the branches and not the stem of the plant. Since the tomatoes grow close to the stem, a heavy load of tomatoes adds little weight to the rings. A shade, designed to be installed whenever the gardener decides the time is right, is detachably mounted to the top of the plant support and consists of spaced apart shade members so that rain water captured by the shade members may be directed to the roots of the plant. An optional deck planter adapted to secure the stake in its vertical position facilitates the use of the plant support for urban and even indoor gardening conditions.

  • Patent number: 5341599
Abstract: This invention is directed to a new and simplified method of installing a vehicle window glass in the glass carrier or regulator of a vehicle. By this method the glass can be mounted more securely and in considerably less time than has heretofore been required. A flat washer shaped member, preferably formed of nylon, and having a central aperture and a plurality of circumferentially spaced axially extending angular projections partially overlying the central aperture and having humps at about the mid-section of the axially extending surfaces have become known as "window things", because they do so many good things so well. The inner ends of the axially extending members are of slightly less diameter than are the precut internal diameter of the holes in the replacement window. These members, being formed of nylon, will deflect inwardly sufficiently to permit the slightly enlarged humps of the "window things" to be snapped through the precut holes in the replacement windows.

  • Patent number: 5341636
Abstract: A gas turbine engine that can operate at a very high efficiency over a wide range of load conditions. In one important feature of the invention, combustion gases are discharged along two paths, one with constant energy and the other with energy that varies in accordance with the engine load. The constant energy discharge drives a turbine that, in turn, operates a compressor for the engine at a constant, high efficiency. Alternatively, the compressor is driven at a speed that varies inversely with the engine load such that the engine operates at a high efficiency for all loads. In another, independent feature of the invention, the combustion occurs at a stoichiometric ration of fuel and air, with the turbine blades being protected from the vastly increased combustion gas temperatures by an internal array of passageways through which cooling liquid, e.g., liquid fuel, and air are channeled.
