  • Patent number: RE34741
Abstract: A capacitance-type measuring apparatus includes first and second support members which are movable with respect to one another along a measurement axis; a first electrode array and a second electrode disposed on the first support member; and a third electrode array disposed on the second support member and capacitively coupling the first electrode array and second electrode for transmission of a signal between the first electrode array and second electrode through the third electrode array. One of the first electrode array or the second electrode is formed to have end portions configured such that the degree of coupling between the first electrode array and second electrode through the third electrode array decreases linearly along the extent of each end portion relative to the measurement axis. This configuration permits improved measurement accuracies by reducing the effects of tilt between the first and second support members which changes the spacing between such members along the axis of measurement.

  • Patent number: 5349705
Abstract: A multi-layer waterproof fireman's glove is disclosed. The inner liner of the glove is sewn to a moisture barrier layer in an inside/out position at tip extension portions that extend from the moisture barrier. The tip extension portions are formed beyond a line of sealing in the moisture barrier layer. The location of the stitches on the moisture barrier layer is thus outside the sealed region surrounding the hand. The moisture barrier layer is then reversed back over the inner liner such that it overlies the inner liner and attachment tabs are applied at each of the fingertips. The attachment tabs are then sewn to the exterior glove layer, which is in an inside/out position during attachment. The exterior glove layer is then reversed back over the moisture barrier/inner liner combination.

  • Patent number: 5349713
Abstract: A cleaning system for magnetic tape intended for high density magnetic data usage combines passing a high volume flow of negatively ionized air across a moving tape surface with simultaneous wiping of one surface of the tape with a soft, non-abrading material to remove dust and foreign particles from the tape. The air flow passes through a filter, which removes the particles. The air then passes through an ionizing grid and back across the tape in a continuous, closed loop operation. The cleaning material is housed in a removable cartridge along with the air filter. A brush moves in response to loading of the tape to pinch the tape and thus remove particles from the surface opposite the tape surface engaged by the soft material.

These systems have a fluid containment boom and a pump for creating a vacuum in the boom and compressing a portion of the lower side of the boom against a surface on which the boom is placed to lock the boom in place and form a barrier against fluid on the surface. The compressible portion may be made of a closed cell material in which case the contained fluid can be evacuated from the surface through the boom.

Abstract: A laterally adjustable mounting bracket for use on a desk or cabinet drawer maintained by a supporting surface and with a tongueless drawer guide having a base plate, a moveable drawer guide plate having top, bottom, and side edges cooperatively receiving a tongueless drawer guide, and means for adjustably securing the drawer guide plate to the base plate. The adjustable securing means includes base plate spring members engaging the guide plate top and bottom edges to enable preselective lateral adjustment of the drawer, drawer guide and drawer guide plate with respect to the desk or cabinet housing the drawer. The drawer guide plate has a resilient stop and the base plate has an elongated slot and connecting ramp cooperatively receiving and engaging the stop to limit the preselected adjustment of the drawer, drawer guide and drawer guide plate with respect to the desk or cabinet. The base plate has top and bottom flanges cooperatively receiving the drawer guide plate for preselected adjustment therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5349724
Abstract: The device which forms the object of the present invention comprises flat element (1) more than half of which is subdivided longitudinally into two parts (2 and 3). The external faces of the element (1) are provided with longitudinal grooves (4) and the internal faces are provided with longitudinal parallel ribs (5). The element (1) is embraced by a bridge piece (6) with laterally projecting wings (7) and a number of inner ribs (8) which slide within the grooves (4). To seal the opening of the container the lips of the opening are simply fitted between the two parts (2 and 3). Once in this position, the bridge piece (6) is simply pushed along by pressing the projections (7) with the fingers such that as it advances, guided by the coupling which exists between the ribs (8) and the grooves (4), it applies pressure on the opening until it is perfectly sealed, the presence of the ribs (5) eliminating any tendency of the new seal to slip.

Abstract: A jewelry closure includes a magnetic closure and a mechanical closure which is a safety feature, preventing the magnetic closure from being opened inadvertently. A plate-like mechanical closure member attached to one of the magnetic closure members engages a complementarily shaped portion of the other magnetic closure member when the magnetic closure is secured to provide a mechanical second closure for the jewelry. The combined magnetic and mechanical jewelry closure may be used to close chains. The closure may also be disposed on a hinged ring. The ring may be used for passing through ends of a decorative chain as a closure for the chain. The closure may also be used on a hinged ring for wearing on a finger and is particularly useful if the finger joints are swollen. Other uses include adaptation for a hinged charm for closing a chain or for adding to a chain.
