  • Patent number: 5349728
Abstract: A magnetic marker comprising a plurality of magnetized fibers oriented substantially parallel to each other is attached to a fringe of ground fabric for production of felt in the form of an endless belt for detecting the travel of the ground fabric and changing various production parameters according to the number of turns which the ground fabric makes around a series of rolls for causing the movement of the ground fabric. Since the magnetic marker consists of extremely thin magnetized fibers, it can withstand the repeated piercing by needles which is required for the production of felt for the purpose of entangling the fibers of fiber web with the ground fabric.

  • Patent number: 5349730
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling blinds includes a punching and cutting station, an outfeed station and a lacing stating having a plurality of lacing towers. A guide cable extends between adjacent lacing towers for guiding transported slats. A pivoted backstop at a downstream end of the lacing station yieldingly arrests the motion of incoming slats. The outfeed station of the apparatus includes a continuously driven outfeed drive roller and an opposed pinch roller which may be selectively urged against the drive roller so as to drive a slat out of the outfeed station. Each lacing tower of the apparatus includes a spring-biased spreader which provides longitudinal tension to a tape ladder while preventing longitudinal stringers of the ladder from converging upon each other. The method of the present invention includes operating the apparatus to automatically learn the selected length and arrangement of the blind and to subsequently automatically manufacture a blind to those specifications.

  • Patent number: 5349732
Abstract: The invention is a tool for removing and installing valve springs in an overhead valve engine of the type having a stud adjacent the valve spring. In detail, the tool is a locking type pliers having a first jaw with an aperture therethrough for engaging the stud and a second jaw for engaging the valve spring, the second jaw having an opening therein sufficient to allow the valve retainer to pass therethrough. Thus that when the tool is installed with the first jaw positioned with the stud extending through the aperture and the second jaw positioned over the valve spring, the pliers can be actuated to a locked position causing the second jaw to compress the spring with the first jaw reacting the force applied to compress the valve. spring. Upon compression of the spring the valve retainer is freed from the valve spring retaining cap and can be easily removed.

  • Patent number: 5349736
Abstract: A tool for pulling off the clutch mechanism of one specific make of washing machine. The tool has main mounting plate from each end off which passes therethrough an elongated screw. The mounting plate has an enlarged central hole for passing therethrough a large tubular member which is threaded on its outer circumferential surface, and which is hollow in it interior. The tubular member receives in its hollow interior the tubular sleeve of the clutch mechanism when the tool of the invention is used for pulling the clutch mechanism off from the drive shaft. At the bottom of tubular member, there is provided a larger-diameter head, having a pivotal latch. After placing the tubular member over the tubular sleeve, the pivotal latch is closed over cutout portion at the lower portion of the tubular sleeve, whereby the latch is thus in locked engagement with the tubular sleeve but free of contact with the inner drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 5349741
Abstract: A process and apparatus for manufacturing lamina stacks used to form rotor or stator cores for electric motors. In the process of forming a plurality of blanked lamina, a blanking and stacking machine forms dimples in the laminas prior to coaxially stacking the laminas. The lamina may also include interlocking portions so that the lamina stack may be interlocked. The dimples are located at offset positions relative to adjacent laminas to cause the laminas of the stack to be spaced apart. The spaced apart stack may be subject to annealing which relieves metal stress in the stack and causes the formation of a desired non-conductive layer on the surfaces of the laminas. The annealed lamina stack may then be compressed to bring the laminas into abutting relation to be subsequently manufactured into rotor or stator cores.

  • Patent number: 5349744
Abstract: A gradient coil for MRI is manufactured by including following steps; a stamping step of stamping a plurality of gradient coil pieces having predetermined patterns out of a conductor plate, a forming step of curving the stamped gradient coil pieces in conformity with a curvature of an outer circumferential surface of a bobbin, and a lamination step of superposing the curved gradient coil pieces one on another as a gradient coil(i.e., an x-coil and a y-coil). An insulating adherent sheet having a hole is interposed between the two superposed gradient coil pieces having curled patterns but opposite curling directions to each other. The inner ends of the two interposed coil pieces are electrically connected in series through the hole of the sheet and the outer ends of them provide current input and output terminals. Two pairs of saddle-like x-coils and two pairs of saddle-like y-coils and two solenoid z-coils are further laminated with insulating adherent sheets to form a gradient coil unit.

  • Patent number: 5349769
Abstract: An image presentation card, comprising an image holder, constructed of a transparent sheet of polypropylene plastic. The plastic is bent twice, to form an image holder tab that is backed with pressure sensitive adhesive, and to form an image holder back, which is wrapped around behind the image and tucked into the image holder tab, for holding a ultrasound image within. The pressure sensitive adhesive that backs the image holder tab is used to mount the image holder to a mounting surface. The mounting surface comprises a window opposite the location where the image holder is mounted, so that the mounting surface may be bent, covering the image, except for a cropped portion that can be viewed through the window. The mounting surface may be further bent, to form a cover that can cover the window completely, to protect the image from light.

  • Patent number: 5349770
Abstract: The thin, flat objects are mounted in protective encasements of a size larger than the size of the objects. A holding panel is mounted in a multi-sided frame having a plurality of cut-outs equal to the plurality of cut-outs of the holding panel, the cut-outs of the holding panel and the frame being in alignment. The encasements are mounted in the cut-outs. A restraining panel is mounted in the frame behind the holding panel. The frame is a multi-sided frame having one side which includes a removably attachable portion such that, when the removably attachable portion is removed, the panels can be slid into and out of the frame, and when the removably attachable portion is attached, the panels are maintained in the frame.

  • Patent number: 5349771
Abstract: A rising bubble display device includes a reservoir with a lamp positioned beneath the reservoir. An air pump is mounted adjacent the lamp to pump air via orifices located at the base of the reservoir. A translucent colored element is interposed between the lamp and the reservoir, and this colored element is releasably retained in place such that the user can readily substitute one colored element for another to change the color of the illuminating light. An orifice defining tube is mounted to the reservoir by a sleeve and a threaded cap to provide the necessary seal while allowing ready removal of the orifice defining tube. The reservoir is secured to the base in channels, and the tube is connected to the air pump with a check valve. In this way, the reservoir can readily be isolated from the pump and removed from the base for service.

  • Patent number: 5349773
Abstract: A double barrel break-action shotgun includes a firing mechanism having a rebound system in which the hammers rebound after firing into a position permitting opening of the gun and are not stressed by the associated mainsprings after the gun is fired. Because the hammers are not stressed in their released positions, they can be easily replaced with different hammers, thus rendering the gun easily convertible for different uses. A simple selector switch is also provided behind the trigger and does not require any wire or complex connections between the switch and the acorn. The bolt actuator includes a simple cam actuator which is detachable from the lever and which is simple to assemble and to replace. Compensation for bolt wear can be achieved by replacing the actuator with one having a surface of a different shape. The breech and breech housing include a bifurcated lug which absorbs recoil forces which would otherwise be imposed on the pivot pin.
