  • Patent number: 5353510
Abstract: A probe is mounted on a machine head which has mobility and readouts in three linear coordinate directions. The probe carries a stylus with a tip which has mobility relative to the head in three nonlinear coordinate directions which are nonaligned with the axes of head movement. A mathematical model, produced by a calibration technique before measurements are taken, translates readouts of the stylus tip's position in the nonlinear coordinates into values which are aligned with the coordinate axis system of the machine head. The probe has three flex wire motion guiding devices connected together in series, and each of these devices has a second member movably supported on a first member by flexible wires arranged in two nonparallel sets of parallel wires. The second member is thus constrained to movement in a single arcuate path which lies transverse to the longitudinal axes of the wires in both sets.

By using these buckles to adjust the length of the double portion, both the upper arm loop (8) and the middle portion of the sling can be adjusted to fit the shooter. The sling may be worn in a non-operable condition with the upper arm loop (8) tightened around the upper arm of the user and with the hand loop (6) tucked in under the upper arm loop. When assuming a shooting position, the user loosens the hand loop (6) and puts his four fingers through the loop, thus tensioning the middle portion of the sling and steadying his arm while the fore-end of the gun rests in his palm.

Abstract: A closure assembly and strut for a pivoting closure which automatically operates to close the closure when rain begins to fall. The closure assembly is provided with two pivoting arms which, when pivoted to their extreme positions, would allow a slot provided on a hinge portion of each arm to align into which a soluble restraining element is placed. The extremity portions of each arm are used to support the closure in an opened position. When it begins to rain, water would hit the soluble element directly or would indirectly be directed to this soluble element through capillary action which would soften the soluble restraining element, allowing a spring to trip the pivot out of alignment with the ends, thereby precipitating the collapse of the closure element. Once the closure element collapses, the closure would close due to the force of gravity.

Abstract: The front end portion of a rotational blade is accurately located in a non-contact manner although the quantity of wear of the blade has been changed. The structure is so arranged that a pair of prisms are disposed to oppose each other at a predetermined interval, either of the two prisms converges light beams emitted from a light emitting diode within a predetermined interval, and the residual prism again converges the light beams which have been diffused after they have been converged. A photodiode receives beams converged by the other prism. The disturbance light and noise are eliminated by an amplifier so as to fetch only light emitted from the light emitting diode. A blade shields light beams converged at the central portion located at a predetermined interval, while reading devices read the quantity of light received by the photodiode and as well as read the displacement of the blade.

Abstract: An improved drill bit having a shank of larger diameter than the body of the drill has an intermediate section rearward of the point section of the drill of smaller diameter than the point, and a longitudinally elongated, enlarged diameter root section joining the rear end of the intermediate section to the shank. The reduced diameter of the intermediate section provides a clearance space, preventing rubbing of the wall of a hole drilled by the bit, while the enlarged diameter root section increases the resistance of the bit to breaking. An improved method of making the enlarged-root drill bit includes inclining a relieving wheel at a substantially smaller angle to the longitudinal axis of a blank than the angle at which the blank was fluted. In one embodiment having a front tapered tip made by the novel method, rearwardly directed teeth are formed at the rear plane of the drill point, by fluting and relieving steps alone, without requiring an additional machining step.
